How about some WL movement today??? oooo that would just make my day so much!

You know I love ya man. Hopefully you come up for some rotations and we'll bring our double act to the ward floors. Probably end up getting fail grades for those rotations because we'll annoy everyone with our comedic bickering, but should be fun nonetheless.

Next person to post is lucky number 2,000....

We could do it on something useless like a family medicine rotation. Family Medicine...guh-ross! Jk, all you future family medicine docs.

Does anyone have a couch for me to crash on for Thursday (tomorrow) night in PHX? Ill be your best friend.

It's one thing while I wait, but not to hear of anybody getting in from SDN is just getting depressing. C'mon let me in, purty plz. :xf:

Why did you guys want to go to page 41 so badly? I didn't mean to creep you out with that picture. Here's a different one.

Grats to all of you who have been accepted!

I have a few questions though... For people who are waitlisted, do you know what spot you're at or where the current waitlist slot is?

😎 Tucson ranks their WL and they did let us know our spot. PHX does not rank their WL, so no need for them to let us know anything. Hope you were/are never in the same situation! 😀

Thanks 🙂 Thought I'd finally get it up there. It's in honor of mathlink, though I don't have any on-the-head shots. That's my son Rylan. He's 17 months old, and showing he has his dad's goofiness.

have you finished your physics lab yet?

Speaking of Mathlink, we haven't heard from him in awhile. Hope you're doing okay, big guy, where ever you are.

My optimism is tanking HARD as the waitlist has come to a complete halt. Come on life, start getting cool and exciting again!

I thought you were accepted already - which WL are you waiting on?

I'm praying for Phoenix to let me in. Come on ADCOM, just looking for a little bit of love.

I hope everybody enjoys second look weekend at Phoenix. I am eager to hear feedback from everyone. As soon as it's over post your thoughts on SDN 🙂...that way when your family asks how it went simply direct them here for a nice, consolidated review of your visit. It beats repeating yourself over and over again. Oh and by the way, tell them that 2 legit 2 quit's FIRST and TOP choice is Phoenix and although I've already promised my first born elsewhere they can have my second. I'm planning on a big family, for obvious reasons of course. Wish I was there, hope to be soon.

I know exactly how you feel, I'm getting the same horrible sinking feeling 🙁...By the way, how was your trip to Tucson yesterday? I was going to message you to say hi, but I got stuck at work late unfortunately.

Come on Tucson WL! We have one more shot for the week tomorrow. I really didn't want to go a week with NO MOVEMENT AT ALL!

The tucson trip honestly didn't get a fair run due to some personal things going on. 🙁

But, I did think it was nice and tomorrow I am going to call an apartment complex and apply for an apartment. If I end up not getting in, then I guess I won't live there and just lose my application fee. But, that's life!

I think I am gonna go back again for another visit, perhaps at 2nd look as a guest.

Hey now, there will be no thinking like that allowed. You are #46, if you don't get in then I DEFINITELY don't get in, so that kind of talk is taboo! Ha ha! As for Tucson, I am sorry you didn't have a better chance to check it out. Everyone says such horrible things about the city, but it grows on you after a while. I really like it, plus the med campus is really beautiful.

Anyone here have mind control over adcoms? We need your help. If you could get the WL to move just one spot tomorrow, that would be AWESOME, and I'd really appreciate it. 😀

Good news for you waitlisters. I might be declining my acceptance to Tucson soon. It seems that they are having a tough time deciding my residency status... It just wouldn't feel right to pay ~48k/year in tuition when UT-Houston would only be ~10k/year.

I have to be honest, if I could get med school for $10k/year I would go there over UA. Tuition this year is projected to be about $27k for IS, so over four years that's a $68k difference (and that's assuming tuition doesn't increase again next year!). I know as doctors we should all be able to pay our loans back without too much struggle, but still I don't care who you are $68k is no small amount.

Random question but does anybody have the link to the youtube video of the U of A students singing the "All I want to do is study all day" song???? I want to show my friend and I can't seem to find it again!!

google "med school gunner song"

I was so excited when I saw two of the three girls at Tucson during the campus tour! This video is totally a recruitment tool.

It's not mind powers, but it'll work!! Let us know when you decide for sure. Thanks bro! 😎

Totally awesome. I can't wait to study all day and do drive-by's at night!

ATTENTION ADCOMS of other schools that have accepted or WLed UA acceptees: If UA accepted them, they must have some serious doctor skills. Do ANYTHING it takes to get them in your school - accept the WLers, increase the class size, offer them sweet scholarships . . . heck, you could even offer them four years of free frosti's. Whatever you do, you better do it before you miss your chance. Love, MIR 😉

I think we have or are just about to set the record now for longest without any WL movement (only counting 2008-09 of course) . . . ugh.

On the bright side, it's a sign that SOMETHING'S got to move soon 😀 Maybe there's a virtual dam holding back scores of UA accetpees from declining, and the dam's about to burst!!! . . . Well, I guess that will probably happen in May - but I'm hoping it starts SOON! That goes for both campuses.

I've been thinking and for me there are so many more pros than cons for each campus that it would really be a tough call. I hope I have to make that decision, but even if I got in to just one, I'd be super pumped and still take you guys out for dinner (that is, after I start getting financial aid cuz right now I'm broke! I guess we could always go to Mickey D's . . .) JK

Anyone else here interested in the dual degree MPH program? 👍

To all you second-lookers, have fun! Let us know how it goes. 😎 Oh, and I agree - that movie is SWEET. Maybe us future Class of 2014'ers should think about making a parody as awesome as that one.

I was actually very interested in the MPH program, and I even started my application for it. In the end though, I decided that adding on an extra year of school (and the debt from tuition) just wasn't worth it. Plus, I'm considering a surgical subspecialty (and probably another year for a fellowship), so adding another year on to all that just was not appealing to me. I also kind of figured that as a doctor if I wanted to do something public health related I would be able to do so with or without an MPH degree.

Just logged on...1 member (myself) and 5 guests viewing this forum. C'mon everyone join the SDN family and share the love. We'll all hopefully be classmates one day soon.

Did you end up choosing Phoenix over Tucson? Let me know if you still need a place to crash.

Good to have you nodnarber! Are you accepted? WLed? If yes to either question, where? Good luck! 👍

I was excited to come home from work to check my email and then the forum, but alas, all i got were emails from a classmate, netflix, and travelocity, with no WL movement posted on the board. 🙁 I would have been happy to see SOMEONE get accepted today.

I am really bummed by the lack of wait list movement this week 🙁 ...Hopefully some accepted people have a change of heart over the weekend :xf::xf::xf:

Oh also, since we all want to become doctors I think it is kind of silly we haven't talked yet about what kinds specialties we want to do. What is everyone's big dream goal? Mine is to hopefully become a neonatologist 🙂

Personally, I really like the idea of IM. But, it is tough to justify taking a paycut of that size just to do that. I'm hoping that the pay gets higher so I can pay off my loans in IM. If not IM, I'm already into neuroscience so perhaps neurology/neurosurgery...? I guess I'm open to ideas!

So I follow this thread every so often and just thought I would share that I was accepted to Phoenix earlier this week, so there was some waitlist movement. I was in the 3/4 pool and I was accepted to Tucson back in Jan. I have 2 out of state acceptances as well and i'm strongly leaning towards one of those schools, but I'm going to wait until Tucson second look weekend before I make a final decision. Also, if anyone is curious, I have a 30R (10's all around) and 3.54 cum, 3.4 science GPA...so it's definitely not all about the numbers.

Hey thanks for letting us know, Who Dat 🙂 I KNOW I don't speak for just myself when I say, we appreciate you freeing up a couple of spots! Let us know what you decide after 2nd look. 👍

I've actually been thinking about IM as well. I'd like to be involved in community health and maybe infectious diseases. I know there's an ID specialization, but I kind of want to focus on broad issues facing communities. Plus, there's always plenty of chances for specializing if I'm not satisfied with it. Just my reasoning there (though like someone mentioned a while back, there are still so many options that it's like we really haven't chosen a career yet). 😎

I'm interested in ID, too! I think it's neat that you can take many different career paths with the IM residency. I was looking at combined programs like IM/family med and thought that particular one was pretty cool. I have a special interest in HIV medicine (and other infectious diseases in general), but am also interested in family practice. We'll see what the future of healthcare does for the worsening shortage of primary care doctors. Oncology/hematology would be interesting, as well. I know I definitely dont want to do surgery.

I sort of alluded to this in an earlier post about my wanting to do a surgical subspecialty, but I will come out and say it now: I want to do ortho. I've always had a fascination with the bones and joints. Seriously, since I was like 12 and just a little skateboarding punk I was thinking about how bad I was jacking up my knees with all that skateboarding (no, that didn't make me stop). Even back then I was thinking about the design artificial knees, and now I'm hoping they're good by the time I need them. Too bad ortho is so competitive though, I'm going to have to be an ortho gunner so watch out Tucson! I'll be just like that girl in the video a few posts ago, "all I wanna do is study all day..."

Even in the lowest compensated fields we'll be able to pay back our loans. The people who should be worried are the ones I know from undergrad who went to OOS universities and took out loans for four years of UG that will about equal my medical school loans without the light at the end of the tunnel that physician compensation is. Also, being that I am a fan of specializing, why not just do IM and specialize in something you're passionate about? Also, I seem to remember hearing that neurology is only compensated about as well as IM, but I don't know that for sure. Neurosurgery on the other hand is a whole other beast. To put yourself through a 7 year residency you had better love it...

I've actually been thinking about IM as well. I'd like to be involved in community health and maybe infectious diseases. I know there's an ID specialization, but I kind of want to focus on broad issues facing communities. Plus, there's always plenty of chances for specializing if I'm not satisfied with it. For whatever reason when I first glanced at your post my eyes focused on the bolded part. Then, for whatever reason, my mind was like, "ID specialization? Interior design? Can you do that with an MD? I thought that was restricted to DO students..."

I know I definitely dont want to do surgery.

Yeah, surgery sucks...especially ortho. Tell your friends please. No one apply to ortho (haha, my secret plan to keep everyone away from ortho has been unveiled :meanie:).

You don't have to add a year to do a dual MD/MPH. Every student I know doing it is still on the four-year track.

It occurred to me last night at 2:00am as I dreamt of fuzzy animals, er . . . I mean uh . . . as I dreamt of getting accepted to UA, there are probably at least a few people like Who Dat - either accepted to both campuses and/or other schools that are waiting for 2nd look to decide. Some may wait for Tucson's later this month. Either way, it looks like next week will be better than this one. 😀:xf::xf:😎🙂😀

PS Yesterday I had that gunner song stuck in my head all afternoon!

Really? So once students are in the dual degree program, do they get to choose between a 4 or 5-year track or something?

((I'm secretly 'gunning' to have more posts then Erik :meanie: but don't tell him I said that. We've been pretty competitive ever since '89 in Russia.))

Oh I am...[insert evil laugh here].

Man, this was one rough week for me!

Having an awful breakup with my (now, ex)girlfriend. Essentially realized that I am (most likely) going to drop down in honors, so those graduation announcements that were sent out to my whole family proudly proclaiming Summa Cum Laude status are going to be wrong. Visited Tucson and was saddened to realize that I really am growing up and moving away. That is, if this waitlist would finally get moving again! Then there is just the general stresses of being in school, applying to medical school, loans, work, etc. And, of course, got sick- most likely because of all that other stuff.

Come on U of A, cut me some slack and start picking up the pace next week!

On the plus side, I think I found the apartment I am going to get in Tucson. Would have been nice to find something closer, but these ones are very nice and not too far away. And, it is funny that this message board has quickly become on of my go-to places for when I'm anxious or depressed about this whole process. I'm honored to be a scrublet like the rest of you! 🙂
