I submitted this secondary today, but I just received the confirmation email with the secondary preview....it's all messed up. The paragraphs were all combined and the apostrophes have been replaced with # symbols. Did anyone else have this problem? Is this just how it shows up on the preview, or will this be what the admission committee sees?

I'm interviewing at Tucson on Monday. Anyone else interviewing Monday? What kinds of questions did they ask those of you who have already had the interview?

I thought Tucson only did Tuesday Thursday and Phoenix does MWF? Im interviewing in Phoenix on Monday.

Last time I heard they had already gotten over 1,000 OOS applications. They're used to getting about 600-800 applications every year (when it was only IS), so they have a ton of applicants compared to previous years.

On my interview in PHX they said that they had received more than 1500 oos applications SO FAR...while this may not seem tremendous, for a school that normally gets less than 1000 TOTAL, an additional 1500+ (especially when it is still sort of early...) can be overwhelming i am sure...

i am sure they will have a few hitches this application cycle as to be expected with a change like this.

You might have been at the interview same day I was....

I'm interviewing today! I hope I remember what I've been wanting to say!!!

ok, I have a little issue... I received invites from both campuses about a month ago, and my interviews are scheduled for 2 weeks from now. However, I'm kinda bogged down with a lot of stuff and I don't think I can spare four full days (that's what it would take in order to get to both interviews). do you all think there's a way to just interview at one campus (prob Tuscon) and decline the interview at the other campus? Or do we need to interview at both? thx

They told us at the PHX interview that the two campuses share interview feedback with each other. They did not explain what they do if you only interviewed at one campus. I am pretty sure that you have to interview at both campuses if you want to be considered for both campuses, but you could try withdrawing from one campus and only interview at the other. Interviewing is hectic, so I'm sure they would understand if you need to reschedule one of them (but that probably means more flying for you).

if you opt for only one campus, then you have a second interview with a community physician assigned by the school.

dang... do you by any chance know if that could be done on the same day? bah, maybe i'll just call and check haha

I'm pretty sure that they arrange it the same day if you opt for one school. I would call to make sure and clear it up tho.

I had my interview today at Tucson and it was awesome- so laid back and low key. Pretty much, I was just chatting with my interviewer for an hour. She didn't ask me any hard questions. I felt amazing about it. It was my first one. I have the Phoenix interview on Oct. 2.

I got that same email. I felt sad. Don't even know if its good or bad news

for those OOS who received secondaries, how long after the primary did you recieve a secondary invite?

Took about 3 days to get the secondary. Taking absolutely forever to be marked complete though. Turned in my app in August and still no word.

Blah I got that darned email today too. 😛 General consensus is that it's likely a "hold", yes?

For those wondering I received the confirmed 3 weeks before an interview invite.
MCAT<33, GPA <3.8 , non URM

I got an interview invite tonight! I hear the Phoenix campus is amazing!

Does anyone know how many people they are interviewing from OOS and how many they will be taking between the two? I hear it's like up to 25 percent of the class. Details would be nice!

Up to 25% of the class OOS. At my interview, 4/15 people were OOS. My interviewer told me that they are supposed to pay no regard to whether the person they are interviewing is IS or OOS- they're just supposed to get to know you. They will probably ask if you are IS or OOS, but that shouldn't affect their report they write on you.

considering there have been other OOS people interviewing as stated above, unfortunately yes it looks like a hold 🙁 🙁 🙁

Dear Applicant,

The University of Arizona College of Medicine is actively reviewing the high volume of nonresident applications for an interview invitation and, while unable to extend to you an interview invitation at the moment, know your file is competitive and we remain interested in your application.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as the season continues.

Sincerely,

Office of Admissions

so has anyone actually received a rejection instead of this after submitting a secondary?

SO correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean there are only 12 of 48 seats available to Out of State Students? How many would you guess are going to interview for these spots?

Its actually UP TO 12 of 48 will be out of state, but doesn't mean that they will take 12 for sure.

That picture is seriously ****ed up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at UA doesn't virtually everyone get an interview? I was told by students that as long is your mcat is > 22. Again, this might be total BS. so anyone who knows please inform me.

Not anymore. They have a new system now and nobody knows what exactly they're doing yet since this is the first year they've accepted OOS students.

For those who have interviewed, have they mentioned anything about how much OOS tuition will be? I'm just curious.

At the financial aid presentation, they said they don't know yet. I think it's high time they figured it out.

I've heard that this is true for residents, but not non-residents.

Univ. of AZ has decided to classify me as out of state for admissions.... fml.

I got my Tucson and Phoenix interviews invitations today. Not to sound silly here but is there any sort of advantage interviewing at one location before the other if I live in Phoenix?

Not sure what you mean by that. But I believe you have an hour interview at each location and they will consolidate the evaluations and determine your score. So I guess you can pick your poison on which you want first 😀

What's this "score" composed of? What attributes am I scored in?

I'm OOS, my stats are higher than their average, and I got put on hold. What gives Arizona?

frowny. face.

Its the OOS part most likely. Those averages are based on last year (or maybe the year before) with only IS. As a state school, they are going to give preference to all IS and be more selective of OOS. Also, it is important to remember stats aren't everything. When I interviewed I think they said they had something like 1500 OOS applicants already for a maximum of 25% of the class (which I think is something like 40 spots). That makes it really competitive if you aren't an AZ resident.

How many IS students are competing for the rest of the 75 spots?

I don't remember the exact numbers, but I seem to remember seeing somewhere something like 600-800 AZ applicants...I'm not sure though. Maybe some one who owns the MSAR can give us the exact numbers.

I think us AZ applicants are competing for ~120 spots, by the way.

It is my understanding that the interviewer asks a question regarding American health care. For those of you that interviewed if you don't mind, what exactly was the question asked?

Yeah, can anyone who has interviewed already post questions they were asked? Especially any OOSers who have interviewed already. That would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Sorry man. They must heavily favor IS applicants? My GPA is below their average but I received the invites 3 days after submitting secondaries.

I really tried to play up my AZ family ties but I think my below average mcat did me in.. oh well, if I dont get rejected in the next few months I'll send them an update letter or something.

My interviewer told me that they are told to pay no regard to whether you are IS or OOS when they interview you. It's just supposed to be about getting to know you. Thus all the questions should be the same for IS and OOS. Yes, there was a question about what you think about the Health Care Reform Bill. I just made a very generalized statement, so as not to take sides and my interviewer said, "That's a great point!" and moved on to something else. Overall the interview was very conversational and laid back. I have the Phoenix interview tomorrow. Hopefully that one is as good as the Tucson one.

How did they notify you? I'm at the U of A (undergrad) and they currently have me classified as a non-resident, but I'm fighting it right now. I REALLY hope I win the appeal.
