For OOS interviews, it says that we should call the admissions office... when do they want us to do this?

And if I'm only interviewing at Tucson, do I need to schedule my second interviewer or will they let me know?

I'm OOS and called like a day after I got my invite. They are very lenient and allowed me to interview with 2 people on the same day in Tucson. possibly one of the more flexible adcoms I've talked to. yay for AZ!

Where did it say that? I read both of my e-mails (invite email, date conformation e-mail) and I didn't see this anywhere.

Well it looks like you didn't open the attachment

Well it must be different for Phoenix then cuz I called in and they already had everything scheduled. 🙂

I think it is more of a "double check" thing...if you are interviewing at both schools they want you to be able to schedule them together so that you dont have to fly/drive out twice...

did any oos people get out of hold and got an interview yet?! im starting to think holds are not a great place to be and i would love to get an interview from UA :xf:

I might just be jaded, but my past experience with holds has not been favorable. Of course some people get lucky, but I tend to treat holds now as just a 'soft' rejection.

i know same here!! but i thought that arizona put ALL oos' on hold to be reviewed later so maybe there is hope? i could be wrong though..

There's been at least one OOS person that I remember reading in this thread that has received an interview. So no, I don't think all OOS people are automatically put on hold.

calimed is right, I am OOS, and interviewed in September. I am pretty sure there were several OOSers who have interviewed.

I interviewed at both campuses last week, and there were 4-5 OOS people both times (I was in a group of about 12-13 people). Hope this helps!

we just suck onemcat😛. indefinte hold!

I'm OOS, was complete 8/12 and got the invite 8/31.

I'm sure they are putting a lot on hold until the deadline, then they can evaluate how many OOS'ers they've let in.

I'm interviewing next month, so I'll post any related info when I get back!

I had my interview Friday in Phoenix and am impressed with the school. Some people may be turned off by the size of the school but it is something that appeals to me. The students seem to be very happy which is a major plus. The Dean spoke to us for an hour and you can tell he is very proud of what the school has to offer especially with the curriculum and the opportunities available. I actually had my interview with him and he is a stellar guy. Wasn't intimidating at all and very down to earth. I'm glad that I turned down Tuscon to apply strictly for phoenix.

To the 4 MS who had lunch with us, if you read this: Thank you for hanging out with us! (Even if you were more interested in the free lunch)

Glad you enjoyed it, Utah! I'm a MS1 in Phoenix, and I absolutely love it. If any of you ever have any questions about the school, ask on the forum or send a PM. Oh, and while it is nice to get free lunch, we enjoy spending time with the applicants and showing them why we love our school. 🙂

Good luck to you!

So true.

I am such a lunch hog. And not only because they feed us. That time in my life was almost as stressful as taking Neuro + Anatomy at the same time, so I like to try to calm the anxiety a bit and give helpful advice. And utah, I definitely think you're a good fit for Phx campus. 🙂 Good luck!

Do u guys think it would be too late for me to send the secondary in for this medical school?

I think I sat next to you at lunch on Friday MadEvans, to the right of you. You are the married one? Thanks for chatting with us I definitely learned a lot about the school.

Yes! That was me. I figured you were you... you're the one from the U right? Speaking of the U, have to ever been to The Pie pizza place?

Wow, too many you's in one sentence.

Anyway, that pizza is some of the best I've EVER had (besides the pizza in NYC - haven't tried Chicago's yet though). My wife and I went there after I interviewed at the U last year. Sooo good.

I'm glad you learned something. Since you interviewed with the dean, I might as well mention that he and the vice dean sat down and talked with us about our thoughts so far (about admissions policies, curriculum, faculty, etc.) and took comments/suggestions. It was pretty cool. Just goes to support our dean being really personable and down to earth like you said.

Lol... MadEvans is like part of the UofA-PHX welcome wagon!

 I know, right??? They should be paying me!

I've always been pretty addicted SDN, and especially involved with last year's U of A admissions site discussion... so, I figured I'd just continue. Especially since this is still a relatively new campus without a well-established web based infrastructure right now (IT people are working on it). I figure I can help, at least a little bit, those like me who like to get a lot of their info about a med school and its curriculum, etc. through the internetz.

I even considered adding to a section of SDN describing a med student's take on the med school he/she attends, but then I got lazy (and realized I should be studying instead of surfing SDN - which is what just happened again... just now). 😱

Who composes the admissions committee (MS's, teaching faculty)? I recall being told by the admission office in Tuscon that there are 4 sub committees of 3 individuals. Is this right? These sub committees then receive students' applications and make selections for admission.

Can anyone shed some more light on this?

I do recall something similar. The committee of three was comprised of an MS, a faculty member, and ... hmm I can't recall the third person. I know you are assigned points for various things in your application, your interview, etc., but I am not sure what the specifics are.

I have such a crush on this school. I loved the campus, and the curriculum, and everyone I met was so nice and so enthusiastic - the students, admissions staff, interviewer, and the security guy who gave me a ride from the parking lot in his golf cart. I hope I get some good news from them in December... but I'm worried because I'm OOS. :xf:

sent my app in two days ago. got an interview invite today. interviewing next wednesday, Nov 4

Speedy arent they? I had the same thing. Submitted, went camping, and found an invite in my inbox. Almost a month later, I realized I never even asssigned letters of rec. to the school, but luckily I randomly checked my AMCAS one day and fixed it.

Are you two IS or OOS? I'm OOS and have been waiting a loooong time.

OOS. I'm assuming they liked my essay about why I wanted to attend the school, as my stats are nothing to write home about. I was (am) sincerely interested in their program (Phx) and applied only to that campus, so perhaps they picked up on that in my app. IDK.

did you submit a letter containing the check/money order and the check sheet?

i don't know if it is different for OOS people, but IS people need to fill out Domicile Affidavits and submit them along with the other items.

I am interviewing the 16th in Tucson and 18th in Phoenix. I am an IS applicant (and UofA graduate), and this will be my third year applying. I was heavily involved in last year's thread, so someone like MadEvans may remember my posts.

Obviously, I haven't had a successful application yet, so take anything I say with a grain of salt, but I am very familiar with the application process and the schools themselves. I also work for a professor at the school who does interviews, but is not on the admissions committee (interviewers are never on the ADCOM, according to UA policy. However, my first Tucson interviewer happened to be the head of the ADCOM. Not sure how that happened). Anyway, I may have some info that may be helpful to some of you and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

So it looks like they will be sending out their first acceptances on December 1st? Anyone have more info on that?

Yeah I submitted everything. I received the "know your file is competitive and we remain interested in your application" e-mail on Sept 21, but haven't heard anything since then.

Welcome to "Hold" territory. Park your butt down and relax because it might be a long stay.

my Tucson interview is Nov4 and Phoenix interview Nov9 if anyone else is going to be at an of those places those days.

good luck this year, mathlink.

interview for Tucson campus went great. looking forward to my Phoenix interview on Nov 9th now

After submitting your secondary for those of you that are In State, how long did it take for them to offer you an interview? What was the fastest turnaround? Anyone get it done within 14 days of submission?

Being instate, I got my interview invite the day after I sent in my secondary and interviewed the week after for both places. So it's definitely possible to get the whole thing done in 14 days after submitting the secondary.

At Phoenix, they said that there would be a notification when your application is released to the committee. Did anyone actually get one or am I making things up?

i got mine the very next day for the tucson campus. and then the following day for the phoenix campus.

Yes. I received a congratulatory email saying that I endured the secondaries and 2 interviews and that my application has been released to the ad comms.

Good luck to everyone this application cycle! If you guys have any questions I can answer them too since I am a first year at the Tucson campus. 🙂
