I even tried to play a Madden game today, and was down 42-0 at the half so I conceded the game. When you can't even waste time correctly, you're having a bad day.

I know how that is (I tend to try to force the pass and get intercepted), and then you just walk away even more frustrated than before you started.

Skydiving is a good idea. I've said on here before that my favorite stress-reliever has been batting practice. I went down to the cages a few hours ago, and I feel much better. I haven't swung a bat in 6 months, but I was in a zone. Right or left-handed, I was launching it. So whichever campus I get into, watch out because I'm gonna rock intramural softball.

As if we needed another reason to root for you to get in...I played intramural softball with the chemistry department last year. It was quite funny to watch all these chemistry PhD students playing softball, but I got kind of tired of being the only power hitter on my team.

I don't mean to make you regret anything about your interview, but did you happen to say anything like, "oh and by the way I'm a hell of a hitter, so I could seriously help out with intramural softball"? Just curious...

have any OOSers gotten accepted to the Phoenix campus yet?

I believe there have been a few OOSers accepted at each release date for Phoenix and Tucson since December... I interviewed at both campuses in October and I'm still hoping for some good news :xf:

Hi, everybody!
I interviewed at both schools in the beginning of November, and I've been waiting for news ever since. Reading this thread is at times therapeutical, especially with everybody asking all the time, "So, did you get accepted yet?" I hope everything works out for y'all so we can go be awesome doctors already!

All day everyday, all day everyday, all day everyday...

And, the nerves are especially heavy this week because this is the week of the Tucson release, and PHX's last one is in 7 days.

I love Futurama! So excited for it to come back this summer. So Tucson releases on Friday (any more after that?) and then Phoenix's last is next Monday?

Sweet. Has anybody heard from Tucson?

My daughter is 5 months old now, and a weird thing happened during the pregnancy. We both gained 40 pounds. I continued working out and getting stronger, but was saddled with some pretty inexplicable sympathy weight. So while I can still lift very well, I certainly don't look like I used to or wish I did (though I have lost about 15 pounds off of my post-baby high). This stung especially when my Phoenix interviewer "coincidentally" asked me what I thought of the semi-controversy surrounding the then-nominee for Surgeon General's weight. I didn't think that was appropriate, and I mentioned as much in my interview feedback.

We clearly had the same interviewer because I received the same question. I was slightly uncomfortable too, because I am not as thin as I used to be either.

Anyway, I was not invited to interview at Tucson and I am an AZ resident so I am seriously holding out for Phoenix because I want to go there so badly. I know this sounds horrible, but I find myself pretty bitter that U of A decided to accept out-of-state students at all. U of A is our only MD program in the entire state and it seems like they should really be giving those spots to those of us who are from AZ. It just doesn't seem fair that we should lose spots to people who may have many state schools in their own state. I don't mean this to make any OOS students angry, because you certainly deserve the acceptances you're offered, I'm just getting frustrated with the waiting game and getting terrified at the thought of not getting accepted. I just wish there were more options for those of us who have lived in AZ our whole lives and desperately want to stay here.

I feel the same way =[. There are only ~150 MD seats total....

Applying from a state where in-staters have a hard time getting in, I no longer have too much sympathy for the "deserving in-state" argument. (Though I hear your pain.)

.

I think this is the reason why I don't necessarily agree with Hobbes. I'm guessing he's from a state like California where it is quite hard to get into state medical school, but I'll bet there are a handful of public and private schools that he can try applying to. In Arizona, the second fastest growing state in the country, we have one, and the size of its class with both campuses combined is smaller than some established medical schools. When you have two gigantic (and quite good) state universities feeding into these medical schools I guarantee you will have more than enough (literally) qualified candidates. I can count incredibly deserving people who have not heard back yet that I know here at ASU and quickly run out of hands and feet and out of the 60,000 people here I'm sure there are a few hundred more that I haven't met.

I know and appreciate that the size of the Phoenix campus will be expanded to meet this additional need (though I must say its current small size is one of the things I love about it the most) but I guess I'm just kind of confused why there's only one state medical school.

Sorry, I just had to point out that there is also NAU (being a former Lumberjack myself)! Not as big as the other two, but still a good school. 🙂

And Grand Canyon University.... Not sure how big that is at all.

Eep! It's scary how easy I forget about our Lumberjack brothers to the North. No offense you guys! I just consider anywhere with snow right now to be part of a different world 🙂

So I finally found out that my research has been approved for publication and will also be presented at the regional and national Society for Academic Emergency Medicine meetings. Tomorrow I will send in this news as well as a copy of the abstract to both campuses and the other three schools that haven't rejected me yet in hopes that I might even land another interview.

I'm full of hope now that this will push me over the top and land me an acceptance this weekend from one of the campuses. Yay for positive thinking?

Absolutely! Sending positive vibes your way.

i say 100% yay! and wish you the best of luck! 🙂

Congrats on your pub!

I will say that at the end of my Phoenix interview I specifically asked about this situation (I have one under review right now) and I also asked if I was to do any other "extracurriculars or things that the school might be interested to know" if I should send them a letter.

She said (paraphrase as close as I can remember to a quote) "Yes, we will accept those and letters of intent. But, we will not give them to the admissions committee. The ADCOM will only see them if they come up to the office and specifically ask about a student to see if they have sent any more information. And, I've worked here since this campus' first class, that has never happened."

Not to say that it wouldn't be different for Tucson, or maybe that was just a cover to prevent a bjillion LOI's, but just letting you know what I heard.

Couldn't hurt though, just in case! Send it!

thats odd. every other school i have interviewed at and applied to (and still havent heard from regarding an interview) all have told me either via email or my phone call that my letter of interest, intent, or update (depending on school) was "added to my file for consideration."

either way, it wouldnt hurt to send it in. maybe U of A - Phx is just different. I know when I emailed updates and informed Tucson of additional LORs to, Tanisha and Ann both said these things have been added to my file for consideration.

Well, I guess we'll find out. I'm going to email each campus individually and choose my words very specifically for them to add it to my file for the admissions committee to see. My RD isn't on the adcom but he seems to think it will be seen by the right people. Of course, he's in Tucson. Phoenix could be doing things differently.

But according to the AAMC data, Arizona also is the 3rd fastest growing state for percentage of students enrolling in medical schools. I don't see much bias here...

I would be curious out of the students from AZ who are enrolling in medical school, how many of them enroll in in-state school. And then, compare that percentage with the same percentage for say... CA or NY or TX etc...

Since we have such a large increase in population it makes sense we would see an increase in enrollment. But, we haven't seen a huge jump in the in-state spots available. So, my guess is we'd see a dramatic decline in the AZ percentage mentioned. I am not sure if it would be less than CA or NY, but it very well might be.

I think that would be a fair comparison. Errors in this logic?

Called today, found out that acceptances PROBABLY going out this Friday, and maybe (?) the last day of acceptances but maybe one more, depending on what the committee decides this Thursday. Also, there's no set date for waitlist, it'll come out sometime in early to mid March

Does anyone know how many acceptances are going out from each campus on Friday? I remember hearing something to the effect that Tucson still had 45% of their seats to release but I can't remember where I heard that or if it was reliable information.

If they are like Phoenix in sending out 15% of their seats at a time, and my guess is they are, they probably have around half of their seats remaining. They would have 40% based on the number of times they have sent out acceptances, but since they do not back-fill their slots, it's likely that number has gone up to 50-ish%. So my guess is anywhere between 50-60 seats are currently available.

In case some of you don't regularly check Phoenix's Twitter account, here are two tweets they sent out yesterday:

All files in Phoenix have been released to the Admission Committee about 21 hours ago from web

Admission Committee is cranking through reviews, big news soon! about 21 hours ago from web

'Big news soon' means this Monday for them, right? Or has anybody heard anything differently?

Mathlink,

Cute baby! Also, when I wrote to Phoenix they said that the acceptances would be going out on either Friday or Monday, depending on how fast they can crank out their list.

If you scroll up a bit (maybe on the previous page, don't remember) I copy/pasted their response to me.

Thanks! I figured my daughter will be a better good luck charm for the thread than a crashed AT/AT.

According to what they told you and their Twitter account, Phoenix is sending their final acceptances on Monday and Tucson (according to you and drsomewhere) will probably send them out Friday (they are apparently still deciding whether it will be Friday or Monday) and whether or not this will be the final acceptance when they meet tomorrow. At least I'm assuming drsomewhere called Tucson, since they always seem less sure of themselves when it comes to acceptance dates.

So my question about Phoenix is, why do they say 'big news coming soon' on a Tuesday when they have previously stated that they will send out acceptances the next Monday? Don't they know that 6 days is an eternity to med school applicants?

Congrats chronicfatigue! As an OOSer, do you think you'd go to UA? Just wondering.

For those still waiting, good luck in the coming days! I know all of us accepted people will be sending good vibes your way! :luck:

I'll be refreshing this thread like a mad-man on Friday and Monday hoping to hear good news from all of you still waiting! :luck::xf::luck::xf:

I really would like to stay in state it is so much more cost effective but if I have to choose I would take tucson if that was a choice.

my buddy (same as previously mentioned getting an acceptance to Tucson last round) just got a Phx acceptance today. He is IS.

edit: i will add that he is choosing Tucson and will relinquish the spot in Phx

Any idea which he is going to accept?

edit: Sorry. I posted that reply before your edit.

For anyone who may be curious, I got replies from both campuses as well as the other schools I sent my abstract to. Everybody has said 'this information has been added to your file' except Phoenix, who said 'received, thank you.' Not sure if that is just their choice of words or if ehandber's info was right and they don't add updates to files.

I'm glad that the schools seemed receptive. I will be annoyed if it turns out Phoenix actually IS giving the information the the ADCOM because I specifically asked at the end of our tour, and the nice woman who was running it said it wasn't! I would have been working to get things together to send to them!

Blah!

So, how's everyone feelin today? 😀 ? 😎 ? 🙄? 😕 ?

I'd say I am mostly feeling :xf: and 😎

I've learned to deal with this stress a little better!

I'm excited for all you guys still waiting. If they are releasing 45% of their spots tomorrow then that's the biggest release all season, so I'm sure you'll all get good news! :luck:

I believe I also recall the people in Phoenix saying that they did not add information to files after they've reached the admissions committee. I could be wrong, though.

So I am a bit lost, is tomorrow the last acceptance date for both Tucson and Phoenix?

I thought March 1st was the big day. Are they really filling up their classes in phx and tucson? Also, what about waitlists?

Supposedly, the admissions committee in Tucson will decide today whether or not tomorrow will be their last day. Monday will be Phoenix's last official acceptance day before alternates go out, but they anticipate sending out a number of acceptances before then because they fill vacated seats immediately.

I hate this. Anybody else out there not sleeping?

Hey Mathlink, I'm here with ya! I just woke up though, so not quite the same.

For what its worth, we aren't even SURE that today is the release. Tucson and PHX both said maybe today, maybe monday. Phoenix has since said it will be Monday and Tucson might have decided that too, but they don't have a twitter. Either way, today is the same as all other days! I will hope that I get an acceptance in the email.

I had a dream last night that I got an email that said "UA Medical School Admissions" and I opened it excitedly only to see that they rejected me because a paper I wrote instigated an institutional action. (Was talking to someone about plagiarism yesterday, but no, definitely never did that.) Then they signed it-

Love, Adcom.
BONK!

I felt that the message they were sending was doubly inappropriate. Now that I know it was a dream though, quite funny!

And, as a sidenote, my girlfriend just got into her 6th law school yesterday- a top 5 law school! I'm really proud of her, but frustrated with all the relief that admissions has NOT brought for me! 😀

Best of luck to everyone here today AND monday!

Called Tucson. Admissions decisions go out this afternoon. 😱 Good luck everyone!! :xf:

Thank you for calling!! Did they happen to say whether it was the last release date or not? Good luck everyone! I hope today is our last day of waiting!!!!!!!!!!

They didn't say. The lady I talked to sounded busy/flustered, so I didn't ask.

They may well still be deciding who gets in today and if it will be the last one or not.
