Hey! That's awesome. I'm glad that there are a few others who agree with me about the silliness of the anonymity thing!

And ML, what does your mechE wife do? My (awesome) roommate is a MechE grad student. He is studying something about how rockets cause a certain type of turbulence. Basically, I live with a rocket scientist.

That's a great idea Erik. It's silly to have gone through this process together and still remain strangers. I'm Jeff Tully. I'm a Biochem senior at ASU and a chem 116 TA. I don't have a camera (or a facebook) and so I don't really have a photo of myself to post but I will say that my avatar is the cover of the White Stripes album Elephant, which is my favorite record of all time from my favorite band of all time. My username is derived from the main character in the 360 videogame Mass Effect (and it's sequel, Mass Effect 2, which I have not played yet because I am saving it as a reward for myself for finishing my thesis. Anything to get me through that nightmare!). Nice to meet you all. 🙂

Nice reward, I enjoyed the first game a lot but haven't gotten the second due to budget constraints. I'm a little worried I'll get in somewhere else after having made a connection with all of you!

Right now she is designing a ventilation system for a mining company. She did her senior design project on a missile radar nose cone system, though.

Yo, I'm Logan Koehler. I'm sick. No, I don't mean sick like I sit outside of your window and watch you sleep at night (despite what you may have heard). I hope I get healthy again soon. Sorry, being sick is all I can think about right now, maybe I will think of more stuff to tell you about later...

Now back to :barf: (not really)

Im Taylor, a german major from ASU. My avatar is of Anquan Boldin who got traded today so my life sucks.

I'm not so upset about the fact that he's gone as I am that they only got a 3rd and 4th rounder for him AND had to give up a 5th rounder too. Seriously, they couldn't have at least gotten a 2nd without also giving up a draft pick?

Yeah its better to get at least something for him. Rolle and Dansby are gone, Brandon Webb might go on the dl, and I didnt make the waitlist. But we beat uofa in basketball a few weeks ago so I'm peachy

Not a very good time to be an AZ sports fan, for sure. Rod Graves has drafted really well, so I'm gonna have faith at least until the draft. I actually think Leinart will do pretty well, too.

But as long as Josh Byrnes and AJ Hinch are running the show at Chase Field, we have reason to worry. And I have publicly threatened to dismember both Robert Sarver and Steve Kerr with a machete on multiple occasions. Had they traded Amare, I would have.

Crap. I just remembered that Robert Sarver is one of UofA's biggest donors. The heart center at UMC is named after him. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say dismembering one of a med school's largest donors with a machete is a negative. Oh well, he's still one of the top five worst owners in the NBA.

Haha, well said. I am actually optimistic about the dbacks. Sarver has ruined my love for the suns

You know, I never really got into sports like that. Except hockey. I got really into hockey my freshman year at ASU, mostly because I got to go to the games a couple times. That was a blast.

So, PHX really rekindled my hopes. I keep thinking about how awesome it would be if I got in. I want to go so bad! I can't wait!

comeoncomeoncomeon! gogogogogogo! Yaaaa! 😎😀

Ylide,

Any chance you're down in LA? I used to live out there back in my actor/comedian days! I do miss it sometimes, but if you get the chance to come out here to PHX I think you'll be very satisfied with the decision. Phoenix is awesome. 😀

Nope, not LA, although I was born and raised in Orange County. I live in central CA, the land of cows and lifted trucks. I really did like PHX and hope I get in there. A good friend of mine attends Midwestern in Glendale so it would also nice to have that moral support nearby.

Did it occur to any of you that given the March 11 deadline to retain your spot, they're simply gauging how deep to go on the final WL? Presumably, there are already spots available even though they were supposed to have filled the class last week- people have undoubtedly already withdrawn. Say they finalized their final WL to 48 people, but there are already ten spots available, that leaves a final WL of 38, which is rather small and perhaps a little risky.

Take it from my newly created username that I don't expect to hear from either Phoenix or Tucson 🙂

P.S. I spoke with Ann yesterday and she said Tucson's decisions may go out next week, but most likely the week of March 15th.

In an unrelated note, I would have felt much better about my lack of faith had this username been taken 🙁

Yea, that's a possibility. I honestly figured it was more because if a student already has an acceptance somewhere else they may not take the WL seriously, and therefore just never contact the school. So, they might end up with a WL of 48 people but 24 of them have already decided what other school they are going to go to. That way they don't get too many "no thank yous" from their waitilst when they send out acceptances.

And, don't let your hope dwindle too much just yet. The waitlist for Tucson isn't out yet, maybe you'll be at the top!

well looks like there will another spot at phx will likely withdraw. got accepted to a in state ca. u.c. good luck everyone

Thanks for lettin' us know CF. I hope you have a blast out in CA, and best of luck to ya!

Is it strange that I find myself thinking about members of this forum when I'm going through my day? I'll be sitting there thinking about med school, like usual, and I will think about ehandber and mathlink and how badly I'd like to go to UofA but how badly I'd like all of you to get what you'd like too! I've found that so many of the other applicants I meet at interviews and whatnot are so damn likeable!

Its tough that only about 18,000 of the 42,000 applicants get into medical school each year. Of course, statistics are one thing, but when you read other people's posts about how their life goals and dreams depend on that coveted acceptance, you can't help but hope everyone gets in.

Yea, agreed. I'm glad that this is the way it is though, most of the time. I am sure that there will always be some people that I don't get along with- but, it will be nice to know that whenever I *do* get in I will be going into something like this with a team spirit. It's comforting to know that there might actually be some SUPPORT as opposed to cutthroat competition.
😀

So, now all that's left is to actually get accepted! Come on come on come on! Monday is the day we all get accepted, right!? Or hopefully next week.

We got this. They want us. 😎

I completely agree. I think as applicants we know how stressful this terrible process is, and so it is only reasonable that we want to see everyone make their dream come true. Even though this won't happen in reality, that's not our job to worry about; we can leave that to the adcoms. I used to think it might be fun to be an adcom, but after going through this and meeting so many other applicants along the way, I can't imagine it being anything but frustrating to want to accept 400 people but only having 115 slots.

Whoa everyone has pulled a matt evans and gone full disclosure while I was away. Good for you guys. Anonymity is overrated.

I'll be crossing my fingers for you guys this coming week and next. Hope for more phx waitlist announcements and a low rank on the tucson list. :xf::xf:

Were the waitlists that were sent out on Thursday for IS and Friday for OOS? It seems that way. What do you guys think?

Waitlist in phoenix! got the email yesterday (thursday) at 6:12 utah time.

I've been stalking this forum for the past few months and Im pulling for you to mathlink.

It looks like 7Franks is from Utah and got his on Thursday. Of course, he could just be like my wife's brother and sister who are AZ residents that go to school up there.

I would agree that not all us SDNers will be accepted . . . except that I recall that just over one year ago the Cardinals were playing in the Super Bowl - and they almost won it 😀 Though unlikely, it's still possible! I'll bet most of us get it.

PS Though I wont disclose my name, I'm from Snowflake, AZ (that narrows it down a lot right there) and am a Public Health major. By some random chance, I spent some time in Brazil as well, like ML. I interviewed on Sept 21 and 22 at Phoenix and Tucson respectively, and I should have got on SDN a lot sooner - could have saved a lot of worry.

I know lots of people from Snowflake, but none come to mind that spent any time in Brazil. I did work with a guy from St. John's, though.

Yeah I applied as an AZ resident. But recently moved up to utah for a job opportunity. I was hoping my move would be temporary and that I would be returning to AZ in the fall to go to school at the UA.

Interesting. I wonder if the reason they have split the OOS/IS apart like that is because they intend on always filling an empty spot due to an OOS with an OOS, and an IS with an IS... That probably is the case, right? Then they can be sure to get exactly the amount of OOS they were planning on.

I can't believe that PHX got their list out almost 2 weeks ahead of when Tucson thinks they're gonna get it out.

Ya, I understand man. I managed to get on the WL for PHX, but I am still verrry nervous. It just occurred to me that now I am going to be waiting for another few MONTHS to find out for sure what is going to happen. Don't get me wrong, I am verrrry excited that I made the WL- I just wish that I would have made the cut before then. 😀

And to our friend from Snowflake-
I have no problem with you not going full disclosure. What I am curious about (and why I brought it up in the first place) is why? What is the purpose of remaining anonymous?

I just don't understand why we frequently keep our School, GPA, MCAT, and even name/location secret from each other.

The closest I can come up with is that you believe an ADCOM would find your profile, read it, search where else you post, and then read those posts to identify whether or not you really want to go to their school. Sounds far fetched, but also ... who cares? I doubt any of us would apply to a school we want to go to and then badmouth it as well, right?

I can't believe that PHX got their list out almost 2 weeks ahead of when Tucson thinks they're gonna get it out.

I think it makes sense for a couple of reasons. First, Tucson is over twice as big as Phoenix, so you figure they need to generate a waitlist that is over twice as big as Phoenix's as well. Thus, it will take longer for this. Secondly, and more importantly, Tucson ranks their waitlist, which I think is great for applicants so you know if you have a realistic chance of getting in off of it. The problem is that ranking exactly where 100+ applicants (all of whom are great candidates) fall on that list is a terribly difficult task. Can you imagine the fist fights that must occur in those meetings as one adcom fights for ranking ehandber #1 while another fights for ranking mathlink as #1? Sounds like total freakin' chaos.

It is far fetched! Its absurd. How long would it take to read on SDN all of some one's posts (finding the negative ones) and figuring out who they were? Now you're going to suggest that they do this for ALL applicants??? Even before UA started taking OOS they still had around 500-600! What about for interviewees, with OOS this year, that's still probably around 500. Honestly, they have better things to do with their time!

Now searching your facebook, that would only take like 30 seconds since you use your name for it. Still though, I doubt they waste their time on that non-sense either! Don't worry so much every one, big brother is NOT watching you.

ADCOMS- If you are trying to decide which one of us should be #1, and which should be #2, I think you should make ML #1. I'll take the risk of being #2.

- That being said, I simply cannot stop thinking about when we're all gonna hear what our fates are! It's killing me! I was telling my GF about this situation last night. Without doubt there will be much more frustrating things about becoming/being a doctor, but up until this point in my life I would say this process (from studying for the MCAT->now) has been the most stressful/anxiety-ridden thing I've done.

But, I'm also proud that I have seen it through.

Erik, It's a good question. The reasons are personal, but one is paranoia (not from adcoms). I don't mind disclosing my academic history, though it's nothing special - very unextraordinary, especially when I talk to people with a 4.0 BCPM and such. OA GPA: 3.79, BCPM: 3.55, MCAT: 31, and I am one of those guys from Arizona but going to school in Utah, BYU actually (HOPING for a nice seed at the big dance!!!!).

Too bad UA isn't doing so well this year. They'll probably turn it around next year, just in time for us all to become MedStudent Wildcats 🙂

Haha, thats why my facebook profile is private and my name has been changed ever so slightly.

You had to bring that up, didn't you? I guess since I've gone full disclosure about myself anyway, I might as well admit that I'm Mormon too (In case that wasn't already obvious by the two years I spent in Brazil). When BYU was down here for their game against UofA a couple of months ago, their team came to my ward for church. If I had known which one he was and what he was about to do, I probably would have pile-driven Jimmer Fredette and then made fun of him for being named Jimmer.

Just kidding, I guess you can probably tell I'm a little bitter about losing our tournament appearance streak just two years before we tie the record. I like to think it's karmic retribution for rejecting me from med school two years in a row. Although if they accept me in the following week, maybe they will be able to win the pac-10 tournament and keep the streak alive 🙂:xf:.

That marks the third time I literally lol'd at your baby-head picture.

If they win the pac-10 tournament I will FREAK OUT.
:xf:

Hey, the only teams we didn't beat in the pac this year are Oregon State and Washington State, who really aren't that good anyway. The pac is so weak this year, anybody can beat anybody on any given day. And we closed the season with good momentum by beating the southern cal schools. I think we can do it. If we do, Nic Wise should be canonized.

:nono: Never. This is one thing I absolutely refuse to ever do. I am happy to embrace Tucson and the school, but never will I be a wildcat fan. No, I'm not one of those crazy ASU-UA rivalry people (I hate how irrational and childish they are), but I am a big time ASU fan. The funny thing is I would love to get involved with sports medicine ortho stuff at UA, which would mean I'd be working with the very athlete's I can't support on the field/court. I mean, just because I don't want them to win, doesn't mean I don't want them to be 100% healthy as they lose. 😀

I definitely set my Facebook to private too. Not just for applying, but I feel like all my nude photos on there should only be available to my friends and family.

I probably would have pile-driven Jimmer Fredette and then made fun of him for being named Jimmer.

Isn't Jimmer Fredette the douche bag who got into an argument with the New Mexico coach who was simply telling him that he was a good player? If so, I think he's an unsportsman punk. If not, then some one else on BYU's team is a jerk for doing that.

If they win the pac-10 tournament I will FREAK OUT.
:xf:

This is where I can show that I'm not one of those fanatical anti-UA people (they exist on both sides of the rivalry and suck equally). I think UA has a good shot at beating UCLA. They're definitely no where near where they were two years ago when they went to the final four, but the problem is that the Pac-10 tournament location gives them what amounts to a home game. I think that is total BS, and the tournament should be somewhere fun like Vegas. LA sucks. The problem is that even if UA beats UCLA, they have to take on Cal who is playing excellent basketball right now (4 game win streak methinks). Still, the Pac-10 is wide open, so its anybody's tournament to win (minus SC).

That wasn't Fredette. It was Jonathan Tavernari. Tavernari just needs to graduate already. I go to BYU and I can't stand the guy.

I don't know how someone could just walk into McKale and drop 40+ without at least getting flagrantly fouled by someone. Had I known he had it in him, I would have tripped him down the stairs at church or something.

That's how most Wildcat fans feel about Jamelle Horne. He was a 5 star recruit, and word is he will lose his scholarship next season simply because he is so terrible.

Sorry for bringing up the touchy subject 🙂 I root for UA, BYU, and ASU - when they play each other, it just depends on who's the underdog and who could actually go furthest in the tourney.

Anyway, let's focus on getting an amazing, surprise email tomorrow from Tucson with a low rank/acceptance!

I can't tell you how many times I have thought about that over the weekend, Ylide. I wonder if they're going to say that to anyone.

Well, here's to another week! Good luck to all of you with any of the reviews that we don't know we're having right now!
😀:xf::luck:

Would anyone like to volunteer to call Phoenix to confirm our theory of IS:Thursday, OOS:Friday WL emails? Thanks in advance! 🙂
