Yeah, I am. Well, my interview at Tucson just sucked less than the one at Phx, so that might explain something haha.

Phoenix rejected me too... I am always perplexed at how different schools value different things in applicants. I think that's why applying can be so frustrating/hard to predict!

Im ok with it though, I would love to go to Tucson. 🙄

I just called the admissions office to give them my contact information (as instructed on the WL notification), and they told me that I am the next person that will get an acceptance! That means they are already to #14... the list is moving folks!

I really think you will get in. I know its pretty much impossible not to be worried about it, but from the point of view of an outsider, I think you will be just fine 👍

WOOOOOOOOO! Yeah, that is fast! Though as was guessed before, the initial movement would be faster than past years. Hopefully it still follows at the same rate as last year though (at least), meaning we're already about 8-10 spots ahead (landing us at 63-65). Again, that's just a guess, and it could possibly slow down to a rate even slower than last year. If nonlocality's estimate is right (50 + whatever was off today), that'd put us at 64. That's what I'm hoping!

ehandber, you may come off a little sooner than you thought. For all of our sakes, I hope that's the case.

I withdrew my Phx spot and accepted the Tucson spot. As far as where I'm going, I still have to hear back from a couple of schools and actually have an interview tomorrow at UCLA. So the answer to THAT question, I may not know for a little while longer.

well as of right now, my choice is U of A as that is the only school to which I have been accepted thus far. I would love to go there (i loved undergrad in tucson) but at the same time, I've lived here for almost 23 yrs and wouldn't mind a change of scenery. But if choices were to include all of the schools I have interviewed at, I would say Vanderbilt would be my first choice and UCLA (interview tomorrow) likely to be my second (though OOS tuition would be $$$ and CA is having major money problems right now). Prior to finding out about my UCLA interivew, I had Baylor at second tied with Wash U (Baylor as the largest medical center in the world, an awesome 1.5yr preclinical curriculum, and is cheaper than going to U of A). I've interviewed at a couple more and, to be honest, really liked all the schools I've interviewed at, so it would be a really tough decision if I had to choose between two.

Unfortunately, I'm waitlisted at both Vandy and Wash U (though the latter has quite a bit of WL movement I hear). It's all on my mdapps profile. It's all a waiting game now.

Rejected 3/13 from Tucson, 3/16 from Phoenix. My Phoenix interview was okay, my Tucson one actually went pretty well. I guess they just thought I wouldn't be a good fit--but who can know what the committees think.

I would have liked to help out the home community in sunny AZ (plus save some serious $$$), but it looks like I won't be around there for awhile. Good luck to everyone else who's still waiting!

I sense a change in the winds . . . The WL gods may be sending us some good fortune . . .

Early movement is important, though we still need steady movement throughout. For '09, from May 1st till the early part of June, movement was at an average rate of about .75 spots per DAY, IOW, 3 people were pulled off every 4 days ('08 was even higher, about .87 spots per day) - and that was with a WL of ALL IS students. If we can move 5 or 6 more spots in three weeks (I hope that's possible), we'll be as high as 2009 was after 6 1/2 weeks; and if we can move 14 spots in 47 days (we BETTER be able to see that much movement in 7 weeks), we'll be two positions further than 2008 was for the run through May, and even with '09's lower rate of .75/day till early June, we'd hit 65 spots by matriculation day (early June would top out in the upper 50's) - ASSUMING a rate identical to 2009.

Come on Tucson, come on Phoenix, you KNOW you want us!!!!

ehandber, I've actually been admitted to urgent care 3 times since Friday, my doc says I've been way too stressed but I can't understand it - I mean, why would he think that???? 😕 I'm making a prediction: You'll get a call from Tucson the week of May 17th. It could be even earlier, the May 17th week might turn out to be semi-conservative. If you get your call on or before the May 15th, we'll be seeing some AWESOME movement, and even more hope for us in the 60's and 70's. I'll just keep telling myself that I'm only 15 spots away from ehandber, and if he gets his call a week or two before the end of May, I'm probably IN!!

That lucky number 13 is making me feel better though, it makes me feel REAL good. 😀 Plus, all this number crunching is just priming me for an Epidemiology test - Epi seems to be Stats with a public health focus. I like it.

If I go weeks w/o posting, you'll know something's up, and you can call UVRMC to see if a premedder was admitted b/c of a minor heart attack or something.

lol. you should update WVU with that (joking). let them know that your love for their school is so great, you have them winning the tournament. i've definitely dropped references to school athletics in a couple interviews and in several applicants (georgetown, ucla, vanderbilt to name a few). but seriously, just joking. i think lol. not joking about update letters in general though. or letters of interest/intent. i think those are legit.

I'm actually more nervous waiting to hear from other schools than Tucson (2 this week eek!). At least Tucson is nice and rank us. I'd be more miserable getting waitlisted but having no idea where you are or what your chances might be. Ugh!

Not really, unless you just want to make sure the admissions ladies know you by name - though some people have been told what tier, for sure, they were in.

I could call on Thursdays. I think we ought to have 2 or 3 people designated to call each of the days (M, Th).

Thank you for writing and we’ll do our best to answer your questions, however the level of specificity combined with the unpredictable season makes it impossible to provide concrete answers. With this said, the Phoenix Admissions Committee meets regularly and fills positions as they become available from the pool of waitlisted students, of which you are one among many qualified applicants. The number of waitlisted positions is not shared, as it has no direct impact on the rate of acceptability for a student. In other words, a smaller or larger pool does not increase or decrease your chance of acceptance. The committee maintains the comprehensive review practice when determining the next best candidate for our entering class of 48 students. Unsure what you mean by “Tier”, anticipate a certain level of fluidity exists in our process.

We wish you the best over the next few months and appreciate your continued interest in The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University.

Do you all think that the really quick movement is due to the OOS students that were accepted? Then, also, if that is the case - I bet we get two big bursts (one was at the start) and one will be right next to the deadline to accept/decline. Yes, we'll get a burst there anyway, but I bet it will be bigger than normal because of the OOS.

I think I am gonna start counting my chickens before they are hatched and go down to Tucson to check it out. Are non-accepted students (us WL'ers) allowed to go to second look? Does anyone know the official stance on that?
