As I have mentioned before, if I got to choose between both campuses TODAY I would pick Tucson. But, I was completely sold on Phoenix up until a month ago (made some other posts about what drove my thought process) so who knows what I will pick if I actually get the chance.

I know that I have heard there is a preference among applicants for Tucson, but when I interviewed the entire group that I interviewed with at BOTH campuses was entirely sold on Phoenix. So, maybe I just happen to interview with a bunch of people that loved the PHX campus, or maybe what I have been hearing about a bias toward Tucson is untrue.

I certainly hope choosing between campuses is a problem that I get stuck with! 😍:xf:

So would anyone like to call or email Tara at Phoenix today to see where the WL is at? Also, I'm not sure how often tmm808 visits the thread, so we may want to call Tucson tomorrow if we haven't heard anything.

Nothing as of yet, I check the forums daily so I will let everyone know as soon as I hear.

I'm sorry you haven't heard yet, but I'm glad to know you check here daily. Be sure to let us the know the microsecond you find out! Ok, maybe you should call your Mom first, but THEN let us know! 😀

How 'bout them Suns? I honestly think they'll have a better chance at reaching the finals if they go in as a 4 or 5 seed and take down LA in the 2nd round. 😀 If the playoffs began today and things went like the season, Suns would beat Denver, LA would beat SA, Portland would beat Utah, and OKC would beat Dallas - leaving the 1, 4, 6, and 7 seeds. It should be fun to see the run up to the playoffs.

By May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), April 30 for MD-PhD programs, each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school or program choose the specific school or program at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application, by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods, from all other schools or programs from which acceptance offers have been received.

I just read that too! So what does this mean for all of our speculation on how far the waitlist will move? And does anyone know if this was done in the past as well? Or is this a new thing?

Never mind, I thought the first day of classes was in July for Tucson, but it is really just orientation. The first day of class is August 2nd.

Got the email too. Does UA technically start the week of July 26th? Or is that for the "whatever it's called, I don't remember - maybe bridge" program, and class starts the next week?

I'm guessing that this could affect how early we see movement (meaning, we might move through 5 or 10 spots in the next couple of weeks or something), though around May 15th will still probably be the period of most movement. This will throw off any possibility of using May 1st as a reference 😛 Come ON Tucson!!!

AHHHHH, just saw your post MedHopeful - it may not affect things much then, except for an extra 1 or 2 students who are accepted at one of those early schools and want to go there.

Blah. Sorry guys. Thought I was excited, turns out I was let down.

I'm gonna be going to Tucson on the 7th to visit, if anyone wants to meet up down there. Perhaps we can get a beer and some icecream. Or perhaps some sort of franken-beercicle.

Just send me an email, or txt my phone 480.776.7812

May 15th means that there will be HUGE movement around that time. Especially for OOS WLers. Those kids who also have acceptances in their home states will most likely take the instate tuition over the 45k/yr at UA.

I'd imagine most OOSers with acceptances are just holding on to those spots just to feel all happy inside about having options... even though they have already made up their minds. But come may 15th, they will have to let em go, and hand em off to me (us!) 😀

Man, I hope you're right shamefame. I was talking to my roommate last night about school and it is so hard to try to keep myself a little grounded just in case I don't get in.

I can't wait for this whole process to be over so I can stop whining all the time! 😀

Anyone think admissions will be sending out April Fools emails?

Dear Rustin,

Admissions at the University of Arizona College of Medicine (-Phoenix, whichever applies) is pleased to inform you that you have been extended an invitation to attend the college of medicine. Should you accept, you will be part of the class entering fall 2010 and graduating in 2014.

. . . . APRIL FOOLS! Haha, we had you going there for a minute there, didn't we?! You're actually not even close to being considered for acceptance, so stop visiting that SDN thread and start studying for MCAT or something*.

With warmest regards,

The UACOM Admissions Committee

*Erik, I'm 98% positive you will be accepted, and don't need to study for the MCAT, ever again.

Wow. That would be the worst thing ever. A bit more funny, but still totally not funny would be one that was like

"We've noticed an error in our record keeping. You were accidentally sent a waitlist notification instead of a rejection letter. We have to withdraw your waitlist status."

That would be awful. Or if they said there was a typo and I'm not number 46 I'm number 146.
😱omg

That is pretty much my worst nightmare ever. I had a dream the other night that the waitlist stopped at #48 and I didn't get in. It was the absolute worst feeling ever ha ha! I REALLY hope that doesn't happen!

Heh heh, I agree that that would be terrible - not sure why I left the  in my first sentence. Yeah, the fluctuation of first adrenaline :soexcited: and then cortisol and stress hormones :wow::cry:+pity+ would probably kill me instantly.

Just wanted to remind people that starting today you can email UofA regarding a personal file review. I don't think my 123 waitlist spot has a chance to get in, so I might as well get all the help I can for next cycle.

So how does that work? We just send them an email asking for a personal file review and they send back all the things they didn't like about us? We can do this even if we are on the WL?

Does the Phx campus start earlier than Tucson? The orientation at Phx is July 19th-23rd which is earlier than Tucson. Perhaps then, the April 15th deadline may apply to Phoenix? Thoughts?

Yeah, we discussed this briefly in the accepted thread and I emailed Tara about it and the April 15th deadline doesn't apply for Phoenix until next year. Something about Tucson and Phoenix being grouped under the same heading on the AMCAS application.

Speaking of the accepted thread as a side note, I don't see any reason why you guys can't come and hang out on that too. It's too bad that there are two separate threads because a lot of information goes back and forth on each. I highly, highly doubt there's anyone over on the accepted thread who would be anal enough to get angry about it. It's a free country, and most of you are pre-acceptees anyway :luck::xf::luck::xf:

Just as my mom used to say, "From your mouth to the ADCOM's ears". Or at least is was something close to the that... Shepard are you a phx'er?

Yessir. As soon as I got wind that Lrkoehle was going to Tucson I immeadiately withdrew my acceptance. Plus Tucson smells funny.

Just kidding! Love ya Lrk. Not kidding about Tucson smelling though.

I started the accepted thread at the request of some one here in this thread. I think MadE suggested it and some people said they would prefer to keep this thread related to waitlist/application topics, because I was asking questions related to accepted folks. Anyways, that's why there is two, but I agree that it would be perfectly fine for anyone to head on over to the accepted thread. There is lots of great info (if you're in a hurry, just look at any post by me, its sure to be pure gold). It could be a nice change of pace from just me, shep, bro, MadE, and jturkel posting.

How convenient, I immediately withdrew from Mayo when I heard you made the wait list there (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). As for smells, I didn't want to say anything, but I caught a wiff of something pretty bad as I walked by you in med chem the other day. Just sayin', I mean I know AZ has a lot of mexican food but lay off the beans before class...

Tucson isn't actually that bad. Aside from having the UA undergrad and athletics located there, Tucson has seemed really cool from my visits. For example, drive like 45 minutes up Mt. Lemmon and you can skiing/snowboarding in the winter. Its awesome. What happens if you drive 45 minutes from UA-Phoenix? You end up in Sun City with all the old people...gross.

Or you can go to main SDN page, medical student forums, allopathic class threads and find it there.

Jesus Christ, you think anyone wants to ALL that??? C'mon shep, you're better than that. 😛

Where did you get those dates from? I emailed Tara not too long ago and she didn't have that info yet. If that's true, then the white coat ceremony won't conflict with DEFCON so my husband won't have to sleep on the couch for a month. Unfortunately, that means I won't get to go with him this year 👎

Touche sir.
My comeback:
Question: what happens if you drive 45 minutes from Tucson?
Answer: Why would you stop at only 45 minutes?

It's funny because before I knew that I would only access the accepted thread by that link, which would require me to go back a couple of pages once people made more posts...

🙁 You hurt me, sir.

You can also go to the bottom of the page of the page and click on forum jump, then scroll through there and "jump" straight to the class threads. It saves time that way. How do you think I had so much time to study for my last med chem exam? Not that I did study, but I could have...

I actually studied a fair amount for that test. Perhaps too much. I'm getting all of the gunner out of my system before med school starts, because I heard that med school was 10% memorizing for the tests (Lord knows you can forget it after the tests) and 90% partying.

HAHAHA! 👍 I like this one!

Anyway, I'm reading through the accepted thread. I am quite sure I will be making some posts there tomorrow. Why? Because I am the voice of the people! (The Danish people. Denmark didn't have a voice yet, so I figured.. meh.)

I don't know why, but I felt like stopping by this thread. How's the process going in these parts? GL to everybody waiting on decisions.

I saw it within the WL email from Phoenix.

See chagramama's post (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=625446&page=24).

Or

"As you know, May 15th is the national “final” decision day for applicants; however, movement in our class can occur through the first day of orientation. First-year Orientation is scheduled for the week of July 19-23, 2010, at which time our class is considered final. " —ADCOM

Holy cow! There was some serious posting going on here yesterday (been stuck trying to finish a pesky English paper). tmm808, you're supposed to be hearing from Tucson today - you too Surfdude, so keep your phones/refresh buttons ready! 😀 :xf:

Welp! I'm off to interview for a CNA training position.... which will be my job for the next year should I not get into med school this time around. 🙂

http://uanews.org/node/31043

Arizona Board of Regents President Ernest Calderón today announced that an agreement has been reached that will allow Arizona State University to change its status at the College of Medicine in Phoenix. The University of Arizona will now assume full responsibility for operations of the college.

What the hell is going on? Why did this happen? What does this change? What does this mean for the future?

LOVE this.. my thoughts exactly, but then I chose Tucson over Phoenix... so that I could be an open minded Phoenician, or at least have some experience to back such claims. 😉

Well, I would have preferred over studying for that last exam instead of waiting until the morning of to review anything. I still pulled an 89 with 1 hour of reviewing (no, not an 89%, an 89...). I was satisfied, because I am still way above the cut off for a C which is all I need.

It works out well though, because I am saving up all my gunner-tude (like attitude, but for gunners) for med school. Watch out Tucson, I'm coming in guns blazin'! MWAH HAHAHA!!!

Can't say I'm too surprised I guess. Would this mean UA-phx will no longer be allowed to use the ASU lecture halls that they were borrowing? I think the med school was just a ploy for UA trying to extend up into Phoenix. ASU should respond by building their own medical school! Honestly, I don't know why ASU wasn't given the medical school here in Phoenix. They could have built a gorgeous medical center looking out over Tempe Town Lake. It would have been awesome.

An interesting article:

http://azstarnet.com/news/local/education/college/article_37a026d4-3e6d-11df-9f32-001cc4c002e0.html

Arizona State University is pulling out of a partnership with the UA at the downtown Phoenix medical college.
The University of Arizona will assume full responsibility for the 3-year-old medical school, Arizona Board of Regents president Ernest Calderón announced today. The decision won't change day-to-day operations.
"These are extraordinarily challenging times for our universities," Calderón said in a press statement. "This move will allow us to streamline management of the college, and let ASU focus scarce resources on other educational priorities."
The board must formally approve the move at a special meeting in Phoenix on May 1, according to a UA press release. Also potentially on the agenda for the special meeting are reports from the university presidents on the regents' directive to cut state payroll spending by 2.75 percent and contingency plans for how the universities will cut their budgets if Prop 100 fails.

Dude, guns? Are you from the old west? I'm using lasers. I'm a laserer. And, don't give me any of that bull**** about laser shields, don't think I didn't do my research.

UA is still years away from having an up-to-date laser shield grid.

Funny enough, lrk was working on his guns while ehandber was working on his laser at the same time this morning. The SRC almost melted down.

So that's why there were six firetrucks, two ambulances, four helicopters, and a tank parked outside.

Also, aztri, I've been meaning to ask you wtf is on your face. Is that a prairie dog mutant monkey squirrel, or a furry version of the facehugger from Alien?

Trust me, I'm on high alert today... DEFCON 5....Thank God I get all my emails on my iPhone and have internet access 24/7. I promise to get any updates out to SDN as soon as I hear. Keep those fingers crossed fellow WL'ers!🙄

I have a personal laser shield. Geez, you think I'd move to Tucson without one??? Not a chance!

I actually was in the SRC this morning...then I was 20 minutes late to class...

Lol I thought you'd never ask. So I was at the Phoenix Art Museum about a month ago and I happened to walk by this very odd piece of 'artwork.' At first I didn't notice that there was anything unusual about it and just thought it was some girl. Turns out it's a wax person and the piece is called "Naked Mole Rat." I thought it was pretty hilarious so I decided to take a pic despite the no pics sign. So no it's not actually me and sorry it's not as awesome as a prairie dog mutant monkey squirrel or a furry facehugger from Alien.

Lrk - Yeah I saw both of you there this morning. Maybe you guys could put down your weapons long enough to introduce yourselves. We'll keep the firetrucks and the tank outside just in case.

I will let my laser down, but I'll never let down my guard....

LRK- you're ASU? Gimme a text/call sometime and we'll meet up for a showdown.

(seeeeoooooooo.....seeooooooooooooooo) dun dun dun (seeeooooooo seeeooooooo).....[tumbleweed]

Or just look for the buffest dude you see in the SRC, then look next to him for the slightly balding average sized guy. I'm the quite baldy, slightly pudgy guy next to that guy.

Dude just because I friended you on Facebook doesn't give you permission to post my picture, stalker! And if you have to put up a picture of me, make sure it's one of the ones after I started using steroids. I'm embarrassed at how puny I look in this one.
