I hope to see some movement for you too!! :luck:

I will be working in a cardiac physiology lab studying ischemic preconditioning. This is work I could have never done back home, so I am super excited!

Yep- I got a great apartment in One Miramar with a southwest view of the city and "a great ocean breeze" according to the housing rep 😍

(I asked her which apartment she would choose for herself if she were to move there...seemed to work well)

Yeah, I agree with everyone here. I withdrew from Dartmouth yesterday because I am 100% certain I wouldn't choose that offer over UCSD. I see the point about "I've earned these acceptances, they're mind to hold on to.." but at the same time, it's just inconsiderate. For me- part of going into medicine is having general compassion for others and the opportunity to work with like-minded people. It concerns me when people behave this way 🙄

:laugh: "city view" bwahahahahahaha...aka view of the 5 Freeway and La Jolla Village Drive

I am jealous that you will get afternoon sun....hmmmmm I think I should move and take one of the remaining west facing apts!!!!

Has anyone heard anything about cuts to the acceptable pool yet? I thought they said they would make cuts at the end of April. I hope I survive it :xf:

Nope they haven't done this yet I believe. Everything is later this year for UCSD including second look.

so who's gonna call brian to see what's going on?

Haha, so true...I remember thinking that too about the view when I was there for second look. But...it makes sense to take it because the rent is going to be reduced to $495 regardless of which apartment you're in and I would rather have that than a view of the courtyard.

You should totally move if you can! It seems like they have a lot of openings now that the year is about to end 🙂 I never anticipated how much of a benefit moving early would be in that regard, but it did seem to work in my favor. I had a lot of apartments to choose from. Now I am just hoping the furniture I agreed to buy off Craigslist is what I think it will be...fun times 😉

I am at one Miramar already. I just have one of those "courtyard views" and get no direct sunlight.

Ugh, that sucks. It seems like San Diego is all about the sun! I would probably move too if I were you 👍

So I just got a generic email from Brian asking of I was still interested in remaining under consideration. Did all the acceptable pool peeps get this? I'm kind of debating whether or not to say yes.

well if you are at all interested, there's really no harm in saying yes. it's not binding in any way

ditto got the same thing. has anyone heard anything about whether or not they're still cutting the acceptable pool this year?

Just got the "still interested? yes/no" e-mail from Brian. He said acceptance offers should be made after May 15th

Yeah I got it too. I guess they will not be doing cuts to the pool at first.

I got the email too. I'm not sure if Brian will really read the responses aside from the subject line, but I asked him if cuts have been made to the Acceptable Pool or if the email was sent to everyone.

Haha, that e-mail was such a tease, since the way that Pitt offered its waitlisted students acceptance was by asking them if they were still interested. Sigh.

I got it too. I said Yes! I hope people who KNOW they wouldn't go there say NO!

Haha I just got the REJECTION from the acceptable pool. Totally cool though, I was planning to withdraw from the acceptable pool, but never got around to it. Good luck guys!

well that makes me feel a little bit better since they are starting to make cuts to the acceptable pool (and the reason i don't feel bad for you is because of ucsf. congrats!)

got the "are you still interested" email as well.

Have there been any other rejections from the acceptable pool other than calbear?

Just got rejected off the acceptable pool. At least there's less competition for those still waiting =) Good luck!

So it seems like they're rejecting the super star applicants who wouldn't in their right mind attend SD 🙂

congrats on the scholarship dermda. I'm hoping good news comes down from SF in the coming weeks.

I must have really failed at the interview at UCSD. :scared::scared:

I only wish they did rejections earlier.

wow- didn't know they reject people off the WL- I did get the interested email, too

my guess - the class is completely full, maybe even overly full. they would take people off the waitlist immediately if they were short spots. here's to waiting until may 15th when other people make their final decisions!

Yeah they overaccept to over 200 students just from interviews alone. Waitlist spots get accepted as people withdraw.

Well, that makes our prospects pretty awful. Crap.

If I remember correcly, about 320 people total were accepted to the 2009 entering class. This number includes those students pulled from the waitlist.

Good luck to all of you guys still waiting! I called Brian a few days ago and he said they were making a cut to the acceptable pool and that if you weren't cut, that's a good sign. He also reiterated that nothing you send in would be looked at.

did anyone who sent in an "YES" to the interest email get any kind of confirmation response from brian?

No, and I doubt we will except for maybe another mass email after May 10th (his deadline) saying thanks.

Hi everyone. I can really sense your frustration...and I hope some of you make it so that we can be classmates next year! I guess I've said this before but I feel like I should say it again- many of the people I met at UCSD who are current students got in off the WL. When I say many...I mean over half of the people I met. It DOES happen, so don't give up. Just a couple of days ago, a good friend of mine with awesome stats hadn't been accepted anywhere and was worried about what he was going to do this coming year- then he got in to 2 UC programs off the waitlist in two days (not UCSD, though). Hang in there guys!!! I am rooting for you :xf:

Which UCs started pulling from the WL?

do you know when he got off the waitlist at UCLA?

I think the "letter sent" status changed on Thursday of last week and then he called the admissions office to confirm. I am also on the wl at UCLA and have not heard anything yet.

Would you go to UCLA? Based on your signature, looks like you're pretty set on UCSD anyways haha. So here's a different question: my friend who is an undergrad at UCSD and will be matriculating there next year for med school told me that it is near impossible to get graduate student housing at this point because waitlists have started for all grad students. Anyone have info on this? I'm thinking that, even if I get off the waitlist, not having housing close to campus/other students could be a dealbreaker.

I have heard the same thing, but don't medical students live in the apartments also? I don't think it'll be a problem being near other students.

I'm an undergrad at UCSD right now, and there is so much housing around the area that it won't be a problem, unless you have to be in the same building as other med students. They will still be very nearby. They have a really good shuttle system here too that takes you to campus from all the major areas that have apartments.

Yep, that's exactly what I experienced when the students took me on tour and showed me things like the shuttle system.

I can't wait until May 17th. Number one choice!

Haha weren't they just talking about cutting the shuttle system by 50% if we didn't pay an extra $50 a quarter or something?

They are talking about cutting the city shuttle system which is currently included, but the school shuttles are not getting cut and those are what most people use to get to campus, especially if you live nearby.

As just another fish swimming around in the acceptable pool, I am still hoping that I get some good news in another week or two. Is it healthy to want to go to school at UCSD so bad? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, I'm still hoping for good news!!! :xf:

Congratulations to all of you who are already accepted. I hope that you appreciate what you have. If you don't, feel free to pass your acceptance to me. I will take great care of it for you. 😀
