Oh, I see. Housing could be interesting then. Thank you Riceman for the info!

Also, thanks for being our eyes and ears with the admissions office.

Well...interesting in the since that you will not have a choice of whether or not you want to live with someone. There will definitely be on campus housing available: you will just have to live with someone

Thanks for the optimism! I hope you are right. There is still a very long summer to go! Brian told me that they will continue accepting people if/when spots open up until their orientation date, which I believe he said was the beginning of September.

I'm not sure what the class size for 2014 is.

Yeah there's one girl in my class who was getting ready to move to attend Northwestern. She got a call ONE WEEK before orientation...she made the switch...and now she's here rocking it out with the rest of us

Interesting! Did you happen to catch up with Brian on more information about what's happening at the moment? Phone calls don't yield any new information anymore because he can't say.

haha glad to see you're still smiling...i was a little worried at first.

Yeah, I realized those who don't know me might not realize how hard I was laughing. I had just discovered that emoticon. ; )

ah yes, the "more" option under the smiles has many an option to show an array of emotions.

i assume you are acceptance pool, too, EDoc?

is there a separate waitlist thread for UCSD like there is for other schools?

there's a poll thread but that's been dead for a while. i dont think we've seen any movement? at all so far this year, so i guess all we can do is be patient. i doubt there'd be such a huge disparity from last year.

(of course i could be completely wrong)

no not yet!

They are busy back there...I will check back again in a little bit (maybe through some other channels) :meanie:

Hi everyone...

Gosh- it's hard to see you guys agonize like this. I remember how that feels all too well. I am really rooting for you guys though!! I wish I had something insightful to say or had some inside information, but I really don't know anything about what's going on in that office. I see Brian and Dean Kelly once in a while, and they both recognize me by name even though they've only seen me a handful of times (which amazes me every time!) I really hope RD, WaitingSucks and Shuy make it- I feel like you three are old friends by now 🙂

Let me know if you guys have any questions about housing, being a newbie in SD, or just want someone to talk to. It's pretty amazing down here- everything I dreamed it would be and more!!! I hope I get to share it with you guys soon! :xf:

Thank you for the encouragement! It really would be a dream come true to get in off the waitlist here.

I know exactly what you mean!!! ....I still pinch myself every morning. As I walk through campus, I can feel the intellectual energy radiating from everything and everyone surrounding me...I can't help but feel like I don't deserve to be here. This might sound ridiculous, but I am still half-expecting to get a call before school starts saying that my offer has been revoked for some reason. It really does seem too good to be true!!! I hope that my classmates realize how fortunate we all are to be here. I met one earlier in the week for tea, and she seemed even more excited than I am 🙂

....if I see Brian, I will lobby for you- I promise! Keep that hope alive- all it takes is one phone call to change your life forever :luck:

Thank you again for the kind words. Just from reading your posts, I can tell that you are a perfect fit for UCSD's close student body and you definitely deserve to be there. You would be a great classmate! For now, I'll just keep on dreaming and holding out hope!

I'm going home in a few days - maybe I'll be a stalker and go mouth breath outside of Brian's office until he knows a decision.

I'll be at the beach in La Jolla anyways....

....

yeah...I agree!

Hopefully your class will be as close as ours is. The rising 3rd years...hmmmmm...not so much!

keep the hope alive guys!

You guys are awesome! I randomly crashed a party last night in OMS and they were so welcoming 🙂 They too said that their class is extremely close. I hope that's true of ours too!!! I think the message board will help a lot with bringing people together. I wish I was cool enough to have access to that now so that I could have a few med school friends, haha 😳

So...completely random, but this crossed my mind today: if our new curriculum has us taking anatomy in our first year, how will that work with you guys still taking it in your second year? Will we have combined classes/labs?

Hi Brian!

Let me know if you want a buddy for the beach....and if you haven't checked it out yet, you *have* to check out La Jolla Cove! It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and it's also a great place to meet random people.

will do!

bahaha, preaching to the choir about la jolla cove. although it seems that whenever I take people to seal beach they're all gone and there is a massive elephant seal rotting. it has happened like 3 straight times :bang:

That came up already in our discussion panel with the deans! There are more than enough anatomy labs (apparently) for all of us to be down there at the same time. I had NO idea BSB (Biomed Sciences Building...where we have some of our classes) had such a huge basement!

It still will be weird that we will essentially be learning some of the same material...should be fun!

BTW: What is OMS?
That is pretty sad there are things I still don't know about

Have you been to glider port yet?
Checked out the seals giving birth to pups? (actually aren't they in La Jolla Cove right now)

So, in terms of anatomy, although we will have one quarter where we will be taking it at the same time as you guys (our course is much shorter), I don't believe we will ever actually be down in the basement at the same time. I think they have the days staggered so that you are there at different times from us. The problem before was getting enough bodies, but they have that all figured out and in fact are spending a ton of money to make sure everything works out.

Another new month. Hopefully some amazing news is on the horizon. Good luck to every one of us diehard ucsd hopefuls!

I got a call from an 858 area code and got really, really excited. I answered, and it was a recording from some damn gubernatorial candidate. 🙄

That is no nervewracking! I am going through the same thing and stalking for that area code hehe

That sucks! Same thing happened to me last month except it was a courtesy call from my insurance company (Geico) haha

Anyone heard anything from Brian yet? tried calling him?

Nothing new here.

Every other UC has had some waitlist movement, even its only a few. UCSD any day now...any day...

Has anyone been accepted from the acceptable pool? It seems there has been NO movement!

My friend called Brian last Friday and she was told that UCSD is "very close to having spaces available for the acceptable pool" and that "no offers have been given out yet."

I'm assuming the class was still overbooked as of last Friday. I think out of all the UCs, UCSD overaccepts the most.

haha, quoted for emphasis. makes me sooo excited. i know UCSF overaccepts and takes quite of few off the waitlist. i just think that ucsd is awesome and people are keeping their spots like leopards this year.

I'm sorry, but the bolded just me laugh. I need to work this into a conversation somehow.

Bumping because I am in a different time zone and can't sleep!

Edit: top of new page, woohoo!

What's up guys! I actually am NOT supposed to be on this forum (crazy finals coming up next week). But I just wanted to let you know OESS is really hard at work trying to figure out how they are going to play a role in helping you guys through this new curriculum. Just in case you don't remember from your tour, OESS (Office of Educational Services) is the office that provides those awesome tutors who essentially are masters in courses for which they lead review sessions or hold office hours. In some cases they do an even better job at teaching the material. They are thinking up some really creative ways to help integrate the concepts you will be learning.

For those of you still waiting: Keep the faith!

No movement yet...but some will definitely occur...but it is hard to say how much!

Thank you for the encouragement. I continue to hope and will do so until someone tells me not to anymore.

So I was down in S. California last week and now all I can think about is UCSD and the chance that I will be going there this fall. I really hope that they start distributing the good news soon!
