Just got my first in-state interview invite from UCF!! I talked to REL for about 10 minutes regarding the interview day. I am really excited about this one! 😀
Congrats ReidMike! What date did you pick!

Is there anybody who was in the "eligible for interview category" for a while and then invited to interview?

I was in that category for about a month- it is possible to get out! 😀

open file and they get it in advance 2 seperate interviews about half hour each friendly formal It was hard to read any info because everyone said it went well but everyone was not accepted ......so if you ask was i able to answer all the questions yes, did i feel uncomfortable no after the interview I kind of felt like it was a tease I fell in love with the day and the school the hospital the students everything.. but driving home I was wondering what if I do not get in i will be disappointed but then I also was happy that I was even considered for an interview the point is all you can do is your best and see what happens each step will bring you closer I know this is more than your answer but i hoped it helped

class of 2014 UCF

What kind of interviews does UCF have? Open file? Two interviews or one? Formal? Laid back? Friendly? Hard-core?

faith2 did you get to meet any of the medical students there. Did any of them tell you how they felt about the school?

2 of them accompany you to Celebration Hospital so they give you answers to all of your questions. Then several stydents popped their head in and offered to answer any questions they were all happy they even said that when ther is an issue that needs addressing it gets dealt with impromptu....They also had a program that you can spend the night at one of the houses before the interview I did not do that because I had drove in late and I did not want to disturb them.

I was wondering the same thing and do not know the answer. I'm going to assume it may take a couple of weeks, so if I don't receive anything by then, I may drop a note to Mr. Larkin.

I agree with Faith2 above, it seemed as if everyone was very happy. I also did not spend the night with any students, but would imagine it would be a good program.

I was told it was semi open like your grades and MCAT section were closed to the interviewers.

The interviewers do not have numbers, i.e. grades or scores. They do have your statements and other fluffy stuff about you.

It really is an impressive day and Celebration Hospital is very nice. I also had the opportunity to visit Winnie Palmer Women and Infants hospital to visit a friend who just happened to have a baby the weekend I interviewed, and it was very nice as well. As a patient, she loved it there. Very exciting these places are there for UCF-COM students.

Does anyone know about how many people they accept in total? I know they are shooting for 60 enrolled, but do they end up admitting a lot more than this?

From what I remember from my interview day, Mr Larkin said they would not over-admit and for last year, they offered 60-ish people acceptances to get the 41. I assume, though, they offered acceptances to 40, then only offered additional acceptances via attrition. Mr Larkin would be the one to ask to be certain. He is very honest and low-threat. I found it very refreshing as it seems the school does not play the "I have a secret game."

ACCEPTANCE LETTER MAILED OUT YESTERDAY AS PER MR LARKIN I am having mines laminated LOL Now i got to pop more bottles when i touch it

No, they're only accredited for 60 this year, and since schools may admit up to 10% more than their accredited number, they can only admit up to 66 this year. My interview there is coming up, hope it goes well, it's my home town school!

Good luck 2 the future interviews and the ones that just had it i wish i had a tip but i still dont know why me and not him or her just do u and u will shine bc u have something 2 offer UCF

congrats on the interview. how many people were in your interview? did they give you any information about when they will stop interviewing or how many acceptances they have given out?

They said at the interview they try to average about 5 acceptances every other week. They interview until march, and they want people with later interviews to have the same opportunity the earlier interviewees do at getting in. They review their waitlisted students frequently and admit themas the process continues.
The school is beautiful, and there are so many opportunities! REL Larkin (the Admissions director) is very straight forward about the process and tries not to leave us in the dark.. I love that!

Hi All,

I've been following your thread for the past week and truly appreciate all the information you have posted here. I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on my situation, as my pre-med friends are pretty far away...

So I just got accepted to one of my top choices (the Ohio State) and have an interview at UCF this Friday. I'm from California and it's not exactly cheap to get out to Florida. I've already booked my flight, but I am contemplating cancelling my interview, as I'm not sure if anything UCF presents will dissuade me from attending OSU.

I guess I'm wondering if any current or prospective students here have any insight as to what compelled them to attend UCF and if I should go to the interview regardless of my apprehension.

Thanks so much to any of you that have advice 🙂

I'd do it just to visit Orlando since you've already booked the flight. I've been accepted by OSU and am interviewing at UCF this fri as well, but Orlando's my hometown so I have added incentives to check them out. I doubt many will be able to give you comparisons of the two schools.

Funny you should post this, I actually just canceled two interviews for different OOS schools, so I understand how you feel. I know nothing about the Ohio State (except their football team is questionable this year 😉), so cannot compare the 2 at all.

As for UCF, I will say it was one of the best interviews I had. I have only been accepted, so a current student would have even better info, but as an MS0, here's what I got.... There have been questions raised about it being new, no historical board scores, etc. I am not worried about this one bit. I know 2 physicians personally in the local Orlando area who jumped at the chance to volunteer their services to the COM as both are Vanderbilt grads and were students when Dean German was there. They cannot speak highly enough of her. I have no doubt that she and her staff will ensure their students receive the best education and will ensure they are able to become the physician they desire. Lots of schools emphasize their desire to create primary care, or focus on research, etc. At UCF, it seemed the emphasis was to allow the students to focus on what they envisioned for themselves--if it's research, those opportunities are there, if it's specialization, those opportunities are there, if it's family practice, those opportunities are there. Dean German stated she wants every student to be able to develop their dreams, because they will then be the best. And.......all those opportunities will be available to all students to ensure they make an educated decision on what will motivate them to become top caliber physicians.

I was thoroughly impressed with not only her, but the other staff we were exposed to. It seems they have recruited some of the highest caliber around. Her philosophy as I interpreted it was......we will take the best things we have learned about medical education from our vast and extensive experience and make it better. For me, coming from a career that is bogged down in "the way it's always been" (read: "it doesn't make sense, it's just our policy"), this was such a refreshing and exciting thought. This also enables them to take into account student experiences and recommendations. One of the interview questions I was asked is "what can you provide to the school to enable it to establish an identity and a legacy for years to come?"

As far as the facilities, I think the medical city is going to be off the charts. The school is surrounded by opportunities--the biomedical research institute w/ cancer research, the VA hospital, Nemours children's hospital and I'm sure more. There is also a vast medical establishment in and around Orlando available to the student. Oh by the way, not to mention, it's all new and who doesn't like new and shiny.

I came away from the interview thinking, "I feel like I can really learn in this environment." And with only 60 in the second class, I imagine there will be even more learning opportunities and personal attention to be had.

Just an FYI, last years class was given a by, if you will, for OOS student fees, so all students were charged at the in-state rate, not to mention, they all had scholarships. This year, Mr Larkin alluded to a fundraising drive for the second class and a possibility of the IS rate for OOS students deal again. There's been nothing confirmed, but if you look back at the beginnings of this thread, Mr Larkin does discuss the fundraising.

I have attached a link that is very good about the school. Perhaps some self-promotion, but it made be think wow!

One more thing. I read this somewhere on this site. In comparing schools, since receiving some acceptances, I have decided only to interview at the schools I would wonder about. For instance, I canceled 4 interviews, because I know if I attend UCF, I will never wonder what it would have been like to go to those schools.

:luck: Again, good luck! :luck:

Agreed. OSU is a great school and it sounds like that's where you want to be. Cancel the interview, use the money to buy a good steak dinner and go celebrate. Congrats on OSU!

Thank you all for your responses and guidance....I've decided to cancel the interview and use the flight for my wife and I 🙂....plus I've still got U. of Colorado coming up so who knows?!?!

Thanks again!! 🙂

On the interview I know one of the students had a tshirt so I am assuming they have hoodies since orlando gets chilly if not we can go to the bootleg man in nyc and have him make them the spelling might not be right and the size may be irregular but it will do LOL😍😍
