Put on hold...

complete 7/13,
38Q, 4.0 GPA, 2 years Research, 2 years clinical experience, major leadership..

uofc is cold....

It would have been cold to reject you. It's still early, and considering they don't give out that many interviews to begin with, I wouldn't take it personally. The whole process has an element of arbitrariness, there's just too many applications for there not to be. Your stats are freaking awesome, so you really don't have anything to worry about. Good luck, i'm in the same boat so I know how it feels...on hold both here and at George Washington.

Appreciate the advice,

I'm not really surprised, stats dont mean everything at all, and the process is odd. I just want to hear some good news, thats all. Plus im trying to help give an idea of whats going on out there, high stats also get put on hold too.

I have received the FAP from AAMC, and on Pritzker's website it says they waive the secondary cost but I'm not sure how to go about this. Anyone know how to take care of the fee assistance waiver for Pritzker?

Thanks!

Submit a copy of your FAP approval notification to their admissions office via e-mail or fax and request a fee waiver. They should e-mail you confirmation that it has been received and the next day it should show up on your status page. 🙂

do you have to go to the status page to find out whether you are on hold or got an interview, or do they e-mail you the news?

I think they update the status page with everything, but they also send a mail notification (I'm not sure if it's e-mail for everything or if rejections are snail mail). Basically, the status page is to let you know about interview invites right away so you can schedule the interview. I'm still waiting to hear back though so hopefully my status page will change to something good soon 🙂

I think this question was asked a few times earlier, but I haven't found responses... About how long did it take for the status page to show that your payment had gone through after you submitted?

aaaaand. Of course the status page changes to Yes for my payment 2 seconds after I post this question. took about a day.

Hi guys. I start at UChicago on Monday. If you have any questions for Pritzker's application, let me know. I will try to help!

amph119 - congrats! - and i have a question for you. i have an interview at pritkzer september that i'm excited but also a little nervous about.
i was just wondering, are the interviews open-file or closed-file? were your interviews generally laid-back, or did anyone grill you or ask you really hard questions?
thanks and i hope you enjoy your first week of medical school!

On hold until december...i suppose its better than nothing, since I didn't expect much from this school-just didn't automatically see myself as a perfect "fit"....but anyway

3.9 cumulative, 36 mcat, top 20 usnews school

hopefully i get published from my summer research so i can send that

When did you receive your "you are officially complete and will be reviewed" e-mail from Pritzker? (If you don't mind my asking) Thanks!

I read that Pritzker will accept 6 LORs. do you think it's a bad idea to submit 6? I have 5 really strong letters, and a 6th letter from a PI who likes me, but is a very busy person (so I can't guarantee the quality.. he doesn't really strike me as the kind of guy who would really spend time on a letter, and he submitted my LOR the day after I asked him for one, so yeah...)

I was almost in shock at how laid back the interviews were. There are 3 interviews. One is with a member of the admissions committee, one is with a faculty member, and one is with a current medical student. All three are very conversational, but they are all open file (I believe, as all 3 asked me about some of my EC's). I was never asked a single ethical-type question at my interview day, most just focused on me, and talking about yourself is, in my opinion, the easiest thing to do.

Regardless of how much you like the school, the interview day itself is incredible. Pritzker and Case Western stand out as two of the most welcoming, warm, and professional admissions committees that I came across over the past year. I also won't forget to mention the Chicago-style deep dish pizza that Pritzker serves for lunch...

A general question for you, this is my "dream" school. I plan on visiting Chicago, should I try to set up an appointment to talk to a counselor or someone in the medical department to get some of their advice as to what steps I should do until I put in my application in June 2010. I studied my summer for MCATs but I wont be taking them till January. I wasn't scoring up to par with U of C standards and didnt want to show that I took the exam twice. Or is trying to speak with them a waste of time. They seem to be the type of school that is very interested in the welfare of their students, but is it only THEIR students? Basically, will they give me the time of day?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I will ask tomorrow to be sure (if I remember, ha, the beginning of anatomy has been pretty stressful 🙂). However, from what I understand, admissions office members are very willing to meet with prospective students. Obviously you can't just call them up and say hey I'll be here at X time on day Y, be there, but if you give them proper advanced notice, I am pretty sure they would be happy to speak with you. Of course, whoever you speak with probably can't spare any more than a half hour or so, but it definitely couldn't hurt if you will be in the area. Just make sure you know what you want to talk about, be professional, etc. etc.

That would be much much appreciated, please don't go out of your way though, thank you!

i had a quick question, does anybody know what happens when you are placed on hold at uchicago? do people (in the past) get interviews after being placed on hold till december?

Yes, interviews do go out off the hold list. There was a podcast episode that mentioned that a handful go out (I want to say ~10% of the total interview invitations were off the December hold list, but please don't quote me on that). If you want more specifics, there is a podcast episode on the subject from 2 years ago. Open iTunes and search "pritzker podcast." There is also a link on the pritzker website somewhere.

good God . . . i just re-read your MDApps, i forgot how much awesome crap you're done. more than me :scared:

but i did try to express my love for chicago and talked about my experience working with the underserved population here . . . so i hope that will count for something

complete! finally. that 1st essay was a bit of a beast

that, my friend, is an understatement.

i just hope mine is coherent . . . i cut/copied/pasted/rewrote parts of it so many times . . . i was up til 4 am. eventually i had to force myself to stop and just sumbit it already.

I think I just combine like 4 other shorter essays I'd written before. Not sure how cohesive mine was but I made my points and was just ready to be done

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not I should apply? I only ask because my GPA is pretty crappy and most of you applying have ridiculous GPAs. Check out my MDapps and let me know if it's worth the app fee to give it a shot. I really like everything about the school that I've been able to read about.

Youll never know your limits till you pass them, I say apply.
Btw awesome mcat score, what were your study habits between the first and second time you took them?

Interview date 9/24/2009. I have also requested to stay with a student.

my gpa is only a bit higher and my MCAT a bit lower compared to your stats. i am complete there as of last friday so i'll let you know if and when i hear anything. although i am from chicago and wrote about chicago-specific stuff in my essays, so i don't know whether that would give me an edge or not.

they give you a lot of space for essays though, so if you think you can convince them that you would be a good fit, i say why not give it a shot??? 🙂:luck:

wait, how do you request a student host?

I'm pretty sure you can e-mail a request to the admissions office. Then, they will get in contact with one of a few students organizing student hosting such as myself and things will get worked out.

Hmm...so my letters have been available through AMCAS for about a week now and my status page still says that my LORs are not received. Is this a normal thing b/c they don't check very frequently or should I call to let them know it's available? This is the case for several schools and I don't know if I should just wait it out and for how long....??

Mine was like that for about a week, and then it changed. I think they just don't download them frequently

Rejected 8/19 via status page. Complete on 8/6.

One down, 14 to go.

Same here--Complete 8/7, rejected today via status page.

And they were one of my top choices...

What does the status page say?

Mine still says:
Final Decision for Interview Invitation has been Made: No

A decision has not been made

i'm getting nervous for this one. realistically i think my chances aren't great but it's become one of my top choices. . . . .
