hey mooooo, clever sdn name, i wonder where you got it from...

haha, I shoulda thought about the other mooo's out there when i saw that 3 and 4 o's were taken! (For lack of creativity, i kept trying.) Well, you clearly win with the picture and all...

Has anyone who has received an acceptance on the phone gotten anything in the mail yet?

Accepted by phone just now. Is it bad if I didn't hear any $ amounts for financial aid, or am I still in the running? 😕

Interviewed late-ish September, just got a continued notification. This is supposedly not a bad thing, although I can't help being nervous about the fact that pool is getting bigger every day as more people interview.

lol... i guess it isn't that creative to begin with.

here's to hoping pritzker can show some love! :luck:

Rejection today. I'm quite disappointed because I spent a bit of time on the secondary. I'd love to live in Chicago for 4 years.

I guess I can still hope for Northwestern.

Congratulations to all of you for getting acceptances and interview offers! Very happy for you 🙂

rejected postsecondary 🙁

Does anyone know what the different levels of merit aid are? Do they ever change in between the initial award offer and May? I know U Chicago offers 11.5 million to 88 people, so I'm curious how it's divvied up!

sooo, anyone still waiting to hear back about the 9/22 interview date.....the wait is killing me.

Hey cramlie, another 9/22 interviewee here (you're in my picture, but I won't ask which person!). I had noticed that other people were hearing back as well, and I was getting nervous. From what my pre-med advisor told me, U Chicago makes admissions decisions with the interviewers present, which makes people decision dates highly variable.

I was admitted by mail on Monday, but they must not have my number because I never got a call 🙁, so don't fear the mail or assume a call is imminent! It could be on its way. On the other hand, my student host said he interviewed in September, and was called in December... eeek! It's all in their schedules, and not a reflection of you!

Hey All!

Pritzker student here to answer questions for you all.

First congrats to all who have been accepted. If you haven't received your finanical aid packets, hold on, breathe, they'll come eventually haha. And it is true ... they have 10 million to offer each class ... can you say amazing ... I love Pritzker for loving us so much!! ... And no you don't have to have a 40+ and 4.0 to get good money (I am living proof of that!). Many people are on full rides (when I say many I'd say 20-30+) and I don't think anyone got less than a half ride. Heck ...people are being paid to come here (ie they get spending money ... and no ... they are not MD/PhD!!).

If you are continued have no fear!!! So was I. And I got in. In June. With a GINORMOUS scholarship! 🙂 .... if you love Pritzker and are waitlisted call/write/email and let them know. Make it loud and clear that you love Pritzker. Call Joni, David, Dr. Abelson, Sylvia ... make them know you want it!!! Seriously if the ADCOM is choosing to choose between two people to admit and they know one person really wants it .. they're going to give it ot that person.

ADCOM does not meet with the interviewers ... we submit a written form. However, sometimes faculty members are not the most prompt so it may take a few weeks longer. With that said I believe the ADCOM is about 3 weeks past ... ie they are working on people who interviewed 3 weeks ago.

If you are not happy with your fin aid ....... hold on to your package and spot until may. Wait till you have your other offers and call Pritzker and say hey! I have other schools that I'm interested in going to too and here's what I'm looking at doing. You might be suprised to see them bump up your aid (this is done quite a bit!!).

So once again! Congrats to all who are accepted ... hope you come next year!!

And to those of you continued ... cheer up and get on the phone/email/letter to the Admissions and let them know you want it!!

glad to hear this news. Uchicago is my number one or two choice. i love it there and even shadowed a doctor there for a while.

....gotta love the waiting game for an interview

Great message PritzkerGuy! I was warned that the information about interviewers meeting with the ADCOM might be outdated, but I guarantee it was true 10 years ago!

You simply rock. Thank you for the ray of hope 🙂

Hey, I had an October 8 interview, so at earliest, my notification might come this week.

I've noticed that some people are notified by phone on non-Thursday dates, like SteinumStein: is this getting to become more common?

Well, gotta make sure to hang onto my phone and stay in a good reception area all day Thursday. Anybody here ever get accepted by voicemail, by any chance?

I was there for October 8th interview too. No word yet, so I am assuming they didn't get to us yet. I heard of people getting acceptance voicemails from other schools.

Alright FSAP, good hearing from you. Guess we'll just wait and see...

Oops, I actually interviewed on the 1st and did not hear anything yet either.

about to start week 7 of post-interview waiting.....not fun

I had a voicemail, so no worries about being out of service for a while, as long as your vm says your name. The message didn't tell me I was accepted but to call back. Pretty clear what that meant though!!

Thanks Mooooo. When did you interview?

When people say full ride does that mean full tuition or does that also include housing and living expenses? Does anyone know if their maximum scholarship is like 200k? 150k? How much is their half ride?

Their budget online says that third and fourth year will cost around 80k per year!

So I was put on hold in late July, and recently drafted my update letter for UChicago. Is it the right time to send it, or should I wait until December rolls around?

You probably should just send it ASAP. I think they will just attach it to your file as soon as they get it (and they are usually pretty quick with this stuff in my experience). Once it is attached your file I dont think it will be seen until a committee looks at it .

Hmmm, but I remember hearing on the Podcast that an update letter should be sent later once the applicant has applied to, interviewed at, maybe been accepted at a couple of schools. It makes it a stronger case that you're still really interested. I'm in that case I guess, but I figured maybe waiting a week or two before they reviewed my app might be better (i.e. late November)

If you heard that piece particularly from the podcast, I would probably follow that advice. I would agree for the reasons you mentioned. It's one thing to say that you're interested when you have no other choice; it's quite another when you have multiple options, but are still very interested.

Hold on to the letter until later in Nov. so that they can see the update just before reviewing your file.

Nevertheless, if you keep feeling anxious, just send it now. It certainly won't hurt, and I'm guessing that the time of the LOI doesn't matter nearly as much as its presence.

Best of luck,
-Dr. P.

just received an INTERVIEW INVITE!!!!!!!!! omg so happy.

completed Oct 27th btw

You are a continuing candidate b/c they know you will get into better schools and will not go there.

Really? There are not many schools significantly better than Pritzker...

For someone interested in an MD/MBA, U. Chicago might be the best place in the country.

Just got an interview, btw. Pretty stoked. I love this place.

Does anyone know how receptive Pritzker is to transferring IN to the MD/PhD as a second year? I was certainly not sure enough about MD/PhD to do this outright, but I would like to consider places that would leave this option open 🙂

In starting to answer my own question, I came across this:

http://pritzker.uchicago.edu/jointdegrees/gdtp/index.shtml

which is a program to fund Pritzker students who want to transfer into a program. To be more specific, how competitive is this program? My interest would be in PhD work in Medical Physics, which Chicago has. I assume admissions requirements would be similar to those applying outright for this graduate field?

Time to reply to some of your q's I see!

First, if you liked Pritzker and put on hold ... attack the admissions office with emails/letters/phone calls etc. Now, in a couple weeks, in a month etc. keep letting them know that you love Pritzker!! If you're on hold Pritzker wants to know that you want to go there! Call Joni/David/Sylvia/Dr. Abelson ... make your case known!!! Send updates/letters throughout the season to let them know you are still there and interested.

In terms of scholarships ... when I say full rides which there are a lot of, that means 183K. That means full tuition. The scholarships are also arranged in such a way that if tuition goes up, so does your scholarship (you'll never pay tuition). A few lucky people got the full tuition AND 30-50K spending money (for the whole four years - not each year). Then there are scholarships between 183 and half ride. Pritzker also gives you 5-6K when you arrive to help offset "moving" costs and summer living. In addition you make 5K your first summer as a research student. You also can get funded for international trips etc. Money isn't a problem here.

In terms of the MD/PhD. program where you enter it after your first or second year it is a great option! For those of you who haven't heard about it you can actually decide to become a MSTP after you're already at Pritkzer. We have 1 or 2 people from each class that end up doing this. You can get your PhD in ANYTHING. For sciency people the program is called the growth and development program and for people that want the degree in a humanities it's called the MeSH program. If you want to do it you get accepted ... there really is no application ... you show interest file some papers and bam you're now a MD/PhD.

Let me know if you have other q's!! Yay Pritzker! It's amazing!!!!

When should we expect to hear about all this financial aid after being accepted? Soon, or not until the spring?

Thanks. Just sent my update email. Should I send another one in a couple of weeks? Haha I don't know what I'd say in it.

Not very. Because the applicant pool is entirely from within Pritzker, there are only a handful of people who apply every year, so getting into the GDTP is quite straightforward. You do still have to apply to your graduate program of choice, but by that time, you likely will have developed some relationships with folks at the hospital, and so your connections and experience with the University of Chicago are such that that application becomes quite easy as well. U of C tends to be kind to its own.

If you want to do it you get accepted ... there really is no application ... you show interest file some papers and bam you're now a MD/PhD.

Ha! I wish it were that quick! While the application is a bit more involved than this, it was still ridiculously easy. If you're interested in doing research but you're not quite ready to commit to applying into MSTPs, I'd highly recommend looking into the GDTP here.

mdeast, I know what you mean. I would love to send an update letter every week, or "keep in touch" with them to make sure they know I am still interested. But my life isn't that fast paced and they already know why I want to go there given I have sent an interest letter. maybe i will call joni/david just to chat about my application...haha

when did you interview, if you dont mind me asking. I am trying to get a better idea of how long it is taking people to hear back post interview. Its been a while for me, which suprises me considering how Pritzker is usually reallly on top of their game.

Cramlie, I interviewed on October 8. My parents received the continued letter yesterday (at my permanent address) afternoon on November 4th.

ahh, hmmm, thanks. sorry to hear about the waitlist, do you think you are going to be agressive with them? As in emailing/calling/whateever them...

I want to be accepted by them, that's for sure, so I will do everything I can to show my commitment to attending Pritzker if they give me an offer. I tried calling the admissions office to ask David Owen for advice on what to do, and left him a message. I'll try again tomorrow; in the meantime, probably will write them a letter expressing my strong interest/intent.

When did you interview, Cramlie?

Pritzkerguy, does your "hold" advice apply to continued applicants too? About telling Pritzker I love them, lol?

by the way, i called them up today. the lady told me they interview about 600 applicants for 88 spots. i was interested in that, so i asked. figured i'd share it with you guys

I interviewed 9/22. I was thinking about doing the exact same thing with David Owen (as he was my admissions interviewer).Let me know how that goes. I am ready to raise hell to get into this school.

Couldn't reach David Owen by telephone today either, so I sent in a email.

Got continued letter. Do they accept from the continued list or we are just waiting to get waitlisted?

I think that applicants are continually accepted off of the "continued candidate" list, until May. At that point, people who still haven't been accepted are then put onto the waiting list.
