Just got a weird status... checked my status and it is an incomplete interview scheduling page. It gives me a schedule with available interview dates and "Current Status" then under it "Interview Dates not yet Scheduled" and it won't let you select any dates... hmm very confused yet... happy?

Call the office. You can't schedule via the status page. It's not incomplete - that's how it looks when you get an interview.

Nice! you guys got interviews!🙂

Thanks, it's my bad. I committed the cardinal sin of not looking at previous posts more carefully. Thank you for your help!

so i was completed 7/30...zip do they send invites by completion date?

Just wanted to let the worriers know, I failed to notice that all my commas and apostrophes were turned into weird characters before submitting and managed to get an interview. There's hope for those of you! Best of luck!

hmm so I submitted a long time ago and I have application in process. I guess that is kind of like a hold.

I have like 5 of these types of statuses from different schools. No rejections, no interviews. This kind of sucks, but I have heard that begging for interviews on SDN helps.

Please Please Please UIC give me an interview invite.

Much love 😍

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. I think Zip said earlier in the thread that your status can change back and forth between "applicant" and "application" in process, and that it doesn't necessarily mean anything. You're not rejected/on hold yet! 👍

They evaluate files based on completion date; they send invites based on people who had favorable reviews.

"Applicant in Process" means your file was out being reviewed. Nothing to worried about at the moment.

Yeah it's only day 1 of interviews, dont worry yet guys. (I say that at the same time as being sad about not getting an interview haha)

well according to hal9000, "application" is not a good thins, but you guys are right, only 1 day so far.

Good luck to everyone for some interviews tomorrow!

Hey zipmedic, quick question:

When I look around on UIC's site, they pretty much talked up their residencies as the reason to go there. I want to know what do you think about your experience there? I kinda presume that most med schools are pretty much the same as far as the academic workload goes, but outside of that, what are the extracurriculars like? How is Chicago? (never been there) What's the attitude of the class? (pretentious, helpful, overly stressed, welcoming, friendly, clique-ish, etc) What attitude to the preceptors and profs have towards the students? (burdened or happy to be teaching the next generation?) I think you kinda get what I'm asking here...

Where are you all getting these detailed statuses? When I log into https://applications.comd.uic.edu/suppapp

I see:
Your Application has been successfully submitted. Although you may still view your application, no further changes will be allowed.

I have no such "applicant/ation in process"

I went from "applicant in process" to "application is in process"

that basically means they looked at my application and didnt think much if it, so put it back in the pile. o well. i really would have liked to go here. is there anything i could do to possibly communicate my interest in attending this school? they probably think im using it as a backup, but im really not.

Dude relax. It's the first round of imterviews. It's hardly a lost cause.

i think medical students of each school in the school-specific discussions thread should have banning rights, as well as the ability to reject applicants

Thought this would be the appropriate place for this and since the Cubs are playing the Sox right now...

GO SOX!
😀

Don't worry guys, we could get an interview here soon! Maybe we could get an acceptance here before the holidays! 😀

Yeah, I hope UIC shows us much love!!

Hey zipmedic, quick question:

FYI, this was not a quick question.

I like it. The faculty are funny, approachable, and want you to succeed. They'll meet with you outside the class, some of them still review coop notes, etc. The extracurricular activities include interest groups for a bunch of specialties, an AMSA chapter, AMA, LaRaMa, APWA, SAMSA, and intramural sports. People are usually involved with several things. Chicago is gorgeous and a fantastic place to study medicine. The class is generally helpful, supportive, and cohesive. There are cliques everywhere, but our class isn't overrun with them or anything.

Interview and be sure you go on the guided tour. An M2 or M4 student will be happy to dish whatever you want to know.

Called the office and they say "Application is in Process" and "Applicant in Process" is the same. Boo.

is that right? makes me feel a little bit better. i'm application is in process, and i dont know if i was ever applicant in process because i never clicked next on my status page!

but i dont get it; why have those 2 different statuses when you could have just one of them?

I don't know, I think she's just pulling my leg so she can hang up on me. 😡
I'm pretty sure no one has gotten an interview invite straight from the Application is in Process status.

My pharm friend said her (med) roommate goes crazy because y'all have tests every week. I know she's probably exaggerating the situation, but how bad is that part of it?

For the first semester, that's largely true. The school tries to wean you off of your undergrad habits and prepare you for block exams, which you'll start toward November/December and stick with pretty much through second year. Her roommate should probably grow up a bit.

This applicant in process business is driving me insane. I feel trapped on the edge of a cliff, with an adcomm taking forever to decide whether to push me off.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself.

It means what they said. Just call next Thursday and find out what they want.

Hopefully, a marathon which will award us a grand prize.

Got interview invite.

Called and they only had the 14th open which doesn't work for me since I have a Pitt interview that day.

They had no later dates which seems odd and the admissions lady told me to call back for a later interview date but couldn't tell me when (but helpfully let me know that interview dates fill up very quickly).

Am I supposed to call everyday?? What an unhelpful admissions office.

Listen everyone. (Everyone, not just this poster.) You all complain that it takes soooo long for interview invites to come out... you complain that you don't know what the statuses mean (even though we've told you repeatedly)... And now that interviews are starting up, you complain about not having enough dates to fit your schedule.

Just because the person you spoke with on the phone doesn't know the dates or has been told not to schedule anyone for them yet does not make the office "unhelpful". They have an impossible task and they manage to get it done each and every year. Try having a little patience and respect for what can charitably be described as an overwhelming job. Call them back next week and see what's available. If no new dates have been opened up yet, ask when you should call back so you don't keep bothering them.

Nice, good luck on your interview! I'm hoping for one pretty soon. 🙂

Congrats.

I have the schedule in front of me - with the exception of September, there are 4-6 interview days per month, each with a morning and an afternoon session option. (September does have other days that will be available; I'm sure they'll be announced shortly.) The office has to arrange interviewers (both faculty and student) before they can open dates. They don't want you showing up on a day they have no one to see you.Just because the person you spoke with on the phone doesn't know the dates or has been told not to schedule anyone for them yet does not make the office "unhelpful". Fair enough, you make a good point. I just wish it hadn't be such an abrupt/vague experience. It just would have been nice to have been told call back in a two days, a week, two weeks etc.

Still "Application is in Process", complete since July... Screw health care reform, there ought to be medical school admissions reform.

I'm still in processing but I'm supporting the applicants on this one - there's plenty of schools out there that are not this vague. Just because the schools feel like they have us by the balls (or ovaries) and we should be at their mercy doesn't mean they can't improve the system.

Absolutely - why can't AMCAS have the whole system on their website? It would be standardized, quicker, and would save every party time/money. You could take a glimpse at all of your applications. However, welcome to the real world - it's run by 10 monkeys trying to hump the same football. Giggity.

Then go to one of those schools. 🙂 You seem to think that the office does this by choice. They don't. There are many factors at play here; get inside the system first and then to try change things. From the outside, you just seem bitter.

Thanks for the stat posting. I'm fine on the MCAT, but not that great on the GPA 🙁 . Let's hope EC's/work experience are big here. I'm impressed by the number of people who are accepted post-interview...

I'm actually not bitter at all - I'm not complaining about this stuff, just supporting these people. Admissions offices and medical schools in general aren't technologically inclined... not to mention they're seeing things from the inside out. I've talked to several adcoms and here was the first response (copy from an email but I took out my name) but not last that I got that was the general idea...

"XXXXXXX It would be great, but given the competitiveness of the medical schools for students is not likely to happen. Sorry."

There's lethargy in the system, I guarantee it. We'll do anything to get into med school no matter how many hoops they throw at us, so where's the incentive for them? What other choice do we have? And I'm not even talking about UIC here - they've got an amazing system w/ an amazing IT department. I spoke with the guy there when they first released the secondary and helped solve a couple problems with it because I am technologically inclined. But most people on here are just talk. What's anyone else here done other than just complain? If they paid me money, I'd make an amazing all-encompassing website with very simple scripts that would standardize all of this stuff. AAMC should do something... I gave them $1100 to double check the grades I carefully filled in and to "release" a crappy PDF to the schools. They should have a system (super easy to write) that handles secondaries for all schools but allows each school to customize the applicant information they request.

I just got an interview, but I'm starting to question if I really want to go here. I am worried about how rigorous their curriculum can be if medical students have so much time to spend on the pre med threads of student doctor....🤣
