does the status changes also apply to people waiting to hear about interview invites? or is just ppl who have been interviewed and waiting to be accepted?

So I can't peruse the thread because I am at work but status changed to decision made and additional correspondences should get to me within two weeks and if not call the office. Does this = good. Sorry if poorly worded, trying to type fast
thanks!

Same with me. Decision made. I am guessing acceptance. Will most likely withdraw. Good luck to everyone.

i have decision made as well

theres an additional correspondance column--but i cant remmeber whether it has always been there or not. its also not clickable (like a tab would be im guessing).

im guessing rejection or WL? what do you guys think.

most likely acceptance

My status changed as well! Hoping this is a good thing... maybe a really awesome Christmas present! So how long did it take after the status change to get the letter/packet in the mail?

awesome. but its not a "tab", its just some extra column, and theres nothing written under it or anything. is that what you had before you were accepted?

thanks

yeah that's all it is...a date will show up eventually

they didn't actually mail our packets until about 3-ish business days later so depending on were you are probably within the next week if you're in chicago...or a little longer if you are further away. I'm currently on the east coast and I think I got it in the mail the following Friday.

Congrats to those recently accepted :highfive:

ok . . am still decision pending. nearly two months post-interview.

edited . . . i can only guess that this means i am in the 'we will continue to review you' pile, sans the email telling me that i am. i just thought it was weird because i remember someone else saying a couple months ago that they had gotten that email.

well congrats to the rest of you! i swear at this point if my status ever changes i might die of shock, its been the same so long

Eek..."a decision has been made..." pre-interview.

Good luck to everyone who's still in the application cycle!

When did you go to Applicant? Or, I guess if there's no difference between application and applicant, when were you complete? I've been applicant for about 8 weeks now. Getting a little ridiculous!

I'm just curious, If I wanted to send UIC updates how would I go about doing it. What would be the best format, email, mail, fax..etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm not sure when I went to Applicant actually. Probably sometime in October. I submitted my application 8/12/09...pretty early in the cycle. I went from Applicant to Application probably a week or two weeks ago.

And now I've been rejected. 🙂

Good luck!

Rejected today. Somewhat in shock. I'm in-state, 3.4/31, volunteering, clinical exp., leadership, etc. Complete mid-August.

What more do they possibly want? This was my top choice, and I'm really sad about it.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Wish you better luck with rest of your applications.

I hear ya. I interviewed sept 14th and the only communication I've had with UIC was the one email that told me that haven't made a decision yet and they will continue to review me every month. Well it has been 3 months and no word, not a peep. I'm thinking about sending an update/interest letter but who knows how much that will help. So just wanted to let you know there are a lot of people out there in the same boat as you. Interviewing at MCW Jan 8th so hopefully that's a winner and won't have to worry about UIC. Hopefully we hear something from UIC before May, but that even seems to be a stretch.

For those of you planning to matriculate to UIC, perhaps think about starting a UIC class of 2014 thread in the allo forum under class threads.

I'm an MS1 at the Urbana campus (Rockford track, RMED program) and will gladly pop into that thread and answer questions you have. There are a few other reliable posters that are MS1s and MS2s at the Chicago campus that can answer questions as well.

I don't want to get too into a Q/A session in this thread - this is for you applicants. Just wanted to put a bug in your ear about the Allo class thread 😀

Congrats to those accepted. To those rejected/waitlisted, don't lose faith. Most of us go through those ups and downs, and the admissions process really makes no sense sometimes.

I also got the "Decision made" and additional correspondence tab on the status page, so I'm thinking acceptance. Anyone know if I still have a shot in hell at the Chicago campus? My parents live in the Chicago suburbs, and I would love to be near them. Thanks 🙂

That's a great idea! You're awesome!

I just made a UIC Class of 2014 thread for those interested. I hope that I did it right. lol Congrats to new acceptances!

Does anyone know if UIC accepts pre-interview updates? If so, any suggestions on how to send them?

Rejected via snail mail today. Guess it wasn't meant to be

Sure was nice of them to send an actual letter as opposed to giving the silent treatment though...

I called the admissions office 4 times at various times during business hours today to schedule an interview, and no one answered the phone. Anyone else having similar difficulty scheduling an interview? Is UIC still on holiday break?

I don't know about their holiday break, but when you called, did you make sure that you listened to the whole message on the phone that comes up right away? I know that when I called to schedule my interview, I hung up at least three times because I thought that the automated message that came up was code for "we are not available right now". I don't know if this is your case, but it is just a thought. Good luck!

Yep, same thing has been happening to me too over the past couple days. I wonder what's up. I might try and send an email.

Hello All, I am posting on behalf of a friend because she doesnt believe in this whole SDN haha....anyway she is an OOS applicant to UIC and she has sent all her secondaries in like months ago but still has not for UIC because its due date is not till JAN 15th ( and she has limited money). Since she has waited this long is it still worth her paying the $85 dollars or whatever or is it too late to apply because it seems a lot of the spots have been taken.......Cause it seems late to me. THanks

After 3 months as "Applicant in progress" I was recently changed to "Application in progress." Good or bad news?

I am sorry to hear about her money situation. It is hard for me to hear when someone's access to education is limited by silly money. 🙁 Jan 15th does seem kind of late to sumbit the secondary especially since a lot of people have already been accepted. BUT the website does ask that the secondary be submitted by January 15th, so it is not "illegal" that she would be doing so. That being said, I think it is important that she realy look at her application and consider whether or not she is a strong applicant at this point AND the extent to which she wants to attend UIC (at most likely a non-Chicago site). On the other hand, I wouldn't want her to regret anything, so I just say do it! go for it! and best of luck!

In terms of the updates - I did snail mail because I had plenty of time before my interview for it to get there.

Don't forget writing in a business format!

I love U of I and am so happy to be accepted there - good luck!

today i finally got the email saying that they have not made any decision yet, and will continue to review me every month. (i interviewed in Oct.) anyone else get it too?

i mean, i am just glad to know that my file didn't get lost in outer space somewhere. but, is this just a nice pre-rejection, or do people ever actually get accepted several months after their interview??

I got the same email. Interviewed in early December.

Congrats to all those with acceptances!

My impression is that the med school admissions process, like most admissions processes, are a total crapshoot (read: somewhat arbitrary).

That being said, if they wanted to reject you, they would have rejected you. I think that all it means is that they have a lot of applications, and it's taking them some time to get around to everybody.

You've been accepted somewhere (I think?), so you're obviously doctor material. That's all that matters.

I was accepted a month ago or so, and I found out today that I'm placed to my first choice: Urbana/Peoria. Very happy. 😀

Congratulations to all who have been accepted 🙂!

I got an email today too telling me that I am still awaiting a decision. I am looking at the glass as half-full here 🙂
I interviewed in early November and am and OOS student. However, this is my top choice and I will be truly blessed if I get an acceptance.

Sorry for this probably very ignorant question, but what is Snail-Mail?--is it just through the postal system?

Well best of luck to all those who are still awaiting an answer!

thanks, i appreciate it. yes i do have one acceptance (thank goodness, otherwise i would be freaking out a LOT. i'm relatively calm right now!) i just would really like to have the option of staying in Chicago . . . although this late in the game, I don't know if U of I people are even still getting Chicago placements.

yes snail mail is just regular mail. stay positive! I remember reading about someone on this cycle who didn't get the decision at the first meeting following their interview and later received an acceptance. Not getting a decision right away doesn't mean automatic rejection so hopefully you hear good news soon 👍

I'm waiting for my site placement.... how did they notify you? E-mail, snail mail, status page...?

Thanks!

I emailed them, asking when I would hear my site placement. Fortunately, they told me where I was placed and that they would mail my site placement again. Seems like they notify via snail mail and mine never came through.

...pleeeeeeeasssssseeeeeeeee give me an interview, UIC. :xf: "Under Review" is getting old!

I have a U of I RMED interview at the end of this month!

So my site placement came in the mail today, and I was placed in my second choice. I really needed my first choice because of some family circumstances (and no not just money) so this changes everything.
How do I go about basically telling them I can't really go here unless I get placed in my first choice???
Ughhhh I am so frustrated! This was my first choice school, and I was so ready to take the acceptance and withdraw from everywhere else, but I can't anymore!

Im assuming you didnt get chicago? if thats true..i guess i have ZERO chance of getting chicago campus...and i'll be in the same situation as you. financial reasons and family reasons....damnit.

I don't know.... it may not just be first come, first serve. I mean, I drove half an hour to get to a post office that was still open the Saturday I received my acceptance just so I could turn in the site placement card ASAP. If the first year wasn't in U-C it wouldn't be AS big of a deal because I was placed in Rockford. Oh well. Guess I'm practically back at square one. Maybe I can defer or something. It sucks because in like 2 years it probably won't matter where I am location-wise. Hopefully my situation will change by then. Just now it matters, of course.

so...you didnt get chicago and you wanted it correct..? And unfortunately for us i think it is first come first serve.

DarwinA, I really think you may have a decent shot at getting the Chicago site if some Chicago-placed people decide not to matriculate (which is likely). I would call them and discuss your options. I think that you and I turned in our site placement form around the same time during this first-come first-served process (a little before Christmas?) and I did get a Chicago placement. This is speculative, of course, but there could be just a few people separating you from the Chicago placement. If this is the case, you're probably at the top of the waitlist for the Chicago placement and may have a decent shot at getting re-placed if you express your desire and are willing to deal with some uncertainty until May 15 or so.

Yes that is correct. Sorry didn't answer the first time. I thought that was clear in my last post when I said Urbana Champaign is too far for the first year.

Thanks for the hope. Yea, it looks like we turned it in around the same time. I literally mailed the placement/ deposit same day I received my acceptance. It was delivered to UIC's office the Monday after the Saturday I received my acceptance. I couldn't have done it any faster!
Any chance you will be going anywhere else? haha maybe I'm right behind your spot....
I'm sure I just need to stop freaking out and wait to see what happens. I will probably try to call on Monday and see where I'm at, etc.

I got the same email. Interviewed in early December.

Just to give a timeline for me (late applicant). Submitted secondary in early November and interview invite 3 weeks later.

I don't know the odds of receiving an acceptance offer after being placed on hold but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Congrats to all those with acceptances!

That's interesting. I submitted my secondary in late October and my status has been " Application in Process" since then. I would assume if you got an interview after 3 weeks then I would at least have a rejection notice by now. Do you have any idea why this is so, especially since it is rolling admissions? Should I contact admissions or is that frowned upon since there is a status update page?
