I just talked to two of my fellow classmates who interviewed today (Monday), and they both felt confident. They said it was very conversational and low stress. One of them even said it was fun and thought it ended to quickly.

On a more interesting note, one of them also said they are interviewing around 60....which is less than 70 something EDPs from last year. The interviewers hope to have higher than 60% acceptance rate compared to last year since they screened it a bit differently this year. That is all I've heard so far. Good luck to all tomorrow and Wednesday. 🙂

I forgot to mention that they hardest question they thought was: "What is the biggest healthcare problem today?" There were some ethical questions but it seems like much of the conversation was devoted to healthcare.

Thanks, that's very helpful! I appreciate you filling us in. 👍

Interviews were quite conversational and pleasant.

If you prepared well and had an interest in connecting with your interviewer, things worked out well.

It was nice to meet you marele86 and hopefully we'll see each other next summer!

Good luck to everyone who has an interview tomorrow!

Agreed. I was pretty happy with mine. I was REALLY impressed by the school. 🙂

this makes me a bit nervous now because I felt the same way about mine. the ppl who posted on here are the only ones who i've heard back from about their interviews. if we all think it went well, then maybe all of us are misreading how we did? but then again, they did tell us that they will accept the majority of us (>60%). so, if that's true, then I suppose the majority of us should have had good interviews?

I was really happy with the interviews as well today. It is true that the interviews were very conversational and I hope the majority of us will get acceptances. I know I will be checking my email frantically in the upcoming week since I know its before Oct. 1st now.

My understanding was that once they set the numerical cutoff for the committee votes, there is no set limit on how many of the 60 EDP applicants they will take...so potentially everyone could have an acceptance, in theory.

I thought mine went well too. It was quite a relief to get in there and just have a nice conversation; significantly lower stress than expected.

I mean, it makes sense that the majority of us get in because you heard from them how selective they were this year in just picking who would receive interviews for EDP. if you are interviewing EDP this year, then they already really like you. last year was not the case because last year EDP interviews were given out by numbers. this year, they read in depth on the apps and looked at the whole package. that's why some EDP applicants with higher #s did not get interview invites because the adcom wasn't impressed with them enough by their #s. considering KU only has a 28-29 MCAT average, numbers clearly are not as important as they are to some other schools. it did not seem to have to do with your age or reapplicant status because there were many undergrad seniors there.

so, basically, since we were essentially all handpicked to interview for EDP, they already like us haha. people who are accepted should have good interviews. since the majority of us will be accepted (>60% as they told us), the majority of us should have good interviews!

Audiophile...September 30th is the date, at least that's how it was last year. And it was sometime in the midafternoon to be exact. Notification was via email and status page update.
Moose...you are correct...in theory, if everyone who interviewed ED is above their threshold, everyone would be accepted and that'd be sweet.
Good luck everybody!

Likewise, Scout! Fingers crossed.

My second interview was wonderful - I really appreciated having the chance to talk with my interviewers, they asked some really thoughtful questions about details in my personal statement and secondary. It was great. (My first interview was good, too - although a bit more complex.)

It's going to be a long two weeks.

Ah darn....thats only one day earlier than expected. Oh well it's one day less though. Thank you deacon for your insight. Glad to see you that you browse and help out regularly with this forum even though you're already in school. 👍

Ha ha, LMAO. I had this *exact* "OMG discussion" with my husband last night. He said that people on SDN are weird and overachievers (myself included). He said that just being on SDN you show a "certain level of committment to the process" and we are certainly not representative of the general pool of applicants. He said so yeah, ALL OF US ON HERE probably had good interviews and will probably get in.

Made me calm down for about 15 minutes.

I think the average that they take from EDP from 70 is 45. Which is 60%.

If there was only 60 this year, then 45 people is a 75% success rate.

So just getting an interview this year really helps your odds!

If they only did 60% of 60 ppl (36 ppl accepted) then they would be fairly behind the average.

So good luck you guys. I can't envision any other situation where the odds could be more in your favor.

Although, if you're one of the 15 that don't get accepted... ouch!

No they told us they want to admit more than 60 percent this year bc last year was an alltime low. I think I explained this in my earlier post...they were more selective in interview invites this year. So I think we have even better chances than youast year haha

When they explained the selection process, it sounded as though chances are substantially better than last year, because they did not automatically give interviews to ANYONE (my understanding was that previously, MCAT of 28+ and GPA of 3.5+ and KS residency = edp interview). They combed through all the applications this time, then narrowed it down to the 60 they liked best.

When this was explained to my group, she mentioned the number 90% as a potential acceptance rate. I posted about this up above as well, but I think everyone who got an EDP interview should feel really good about the chances of getting in.

I thought my first interview was a little strange. The interviewer did most of the talking and asked me only a couple questions the entire 30 minutes. She talked about the school, its curriculum, and which fields of medicine my engineering background could be applied. I waited until she was in between thoughts to ask whether she had any questions about my application and tried to direct the conversation towards my experiences that led to my decision to go into medicine. Did anyone have a similar interview? What do you make of it!?

I don't know, it sounds to me like she'd already made up her mind that she liked your app. I can't imagine you'd have much to worry about with an interview like that.

RawR, I would definitely agree with Marele86 in her assessment. Since things seem to have been so selective from the start this year, I'm guessing a few of the interviewers who had looked through profiles knew how they were going to present them to the committee before even meeting the actual people.

I'm not saying for anyone to rest on his/her laurels and await an automatic acceptance... But rather that we all showed up, interacted and communicated in a genuine manor and that's all we could do on our part. The rest is up to the interviewers and committee... To decide what level of applicant they want to accept EDP this year.

BTW, I dropped off my thank you notes this morning. Feels good to have absolutely nothing left on my plate for the rest of the next two weeks in regards to the application cycle. (Disclaimer... Before you're like, 'Wait... He went and dropped them off???? WTF!?!?' I live like 10 min away, and my sister-in-law is in the doctorate program so I was there anyway. Thought I'd save postage and the like).

EDP applicants FTW!

Did they say if they were going to carry this new method over to next year?

Not explicitly... But one would imagine that a shift in policy would not be a 'one year wonder' thing, but rather a continual measure.

It might be worth a phone call on your part. Just to ask some questions and see what will be new next year. (I'd wait until spring when they're done stressing out about who they're gonna let in this year)

I think you're fine and sure you'll get in. 👍

Hey Laryngo,

Was everyone in your october interview session last year from EDP?

KSDeacon - Do you know if it is common for people who didn't get EDP interview to matriculate?

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll remain concerned until I see the final verdict in writing. 😕 I hope they accept more than 60% of those interviewed. I saw a lot of well-spoken Jayhawkers and Wildcats on the Tuesday interview. Have a good weekend!

Yeah, me too. I was also surprised at how NICE everyone was. Every interviewee was so supportive and friendly. We're definitely in with some tough competition.

:xf:

UTKD...i honestly don't know. I talked with a few different people at the beginning of this year who did apply ED, didn't get the invite, and then were accepted later, so I know it definitely happens.
And Engineer...this is one of the things i love about KU. Nearly everyone in my class is awesome. I definitely feel that everyone here wants everyone else to succeed. The M2s are helpful and send us their old study guides, as well as people in my class who wrote something up email it out too.
anyway, best of luck to all of you

UTKD~

You know, I honestly didn't ask around. I didn't get the impression that we all were a pool from EDP from our conversations. The only thing I recall is that we were all KS residents.

Does anyone remember anyone saying that this Friday would be KUMC's last admissions committee meeting, and thus the earliest date we could possibly hear back?

A person at my table during lunch told me his group was told so, so that's what I've been assuming, but I'm just curious if anyone else heard this for real.

I heard that the 2 meetings were last Wednesday night and LAST Friday. Just what I "thought" Sandra McCurdy said. I was nervous though. 😉

Then I talked to an M2 who said she had her acceptance a week after her EDP interview. But then I saw a few on here who said it was the end of the month.

So........ long wait I guess.

I didn't hear exactly when all the meetings would be, just that the first one was last Wednesday. I understood Dean McCurdy's comments on getting back to us by Friday to mean that decisions may or may not be made before Friday, but at the latest we should hear back then.

She also said that as long as the decisions were all made before late in the evening, whichever day that happens to be, they will sent out emails the same day since all they have to do is plug the committee scores for each person into the computer.

I am hoping we hear back within 5 minutes of posting this. 😀

Thanks, you guys! That's really helpful. I feel better knowing that it could be any day now.

I'm still surprised at how little I retained from Dean McCurdy's talk (even though I remember it being super helpful at the time - I'm still really impressed).. I was pretty nervous. 😳

hey all...unless they changed it (and they very well could have), they won't release their decisions until Sept 30th. Last year when i went through the process, they said Oct. 1st was the deadline, but that most likely the decision would be given on the previous day.
I'd just try to sit back and relax as best you can (i know the wait sucks), and be thankful you don't have a module final on wednesday 😉
best of luck to all of you!

It definitely sounded like it changed then, Dean McCurdy sounded pretty sure they would have decisions made by this Friday.

I'm already checking my email way way way more than normal; it's a problem.

I know many have already responded by this time, but I just thought I'd offer my recollection. Like RagingMoose, I understood that we could hear by the end of this week OR at the latest Oct 1st.

So does the latter half of the week start tomorrow, Tuesday??

I think all of you are dreaming. All Sandy said was the decisions would be out before October 1st. Based on the countless friends in the past who got in EDP, we won't be hearing back until like a day or two before Oct. 1st. You're all a week early haha.

by the way, KU updates the online status page before anything else. so if you really want to be anal, keep checking that. your email will not be first notification.

but, like I said, it's gonna be another week! I'm excited, too! the more I think about it, the more I realize our chances are amazingly in our favor. the MAJORITY of us will be accepted. how often can you say the majority of applicants will be accepted to anything? I think we're all in pretty good shoes. I especially feel confident after Sandy told us that this year getting EDP interviews was super selective. You all heard her say how in-depth they read into our applications. So, if we already got interviews, they already like all of us! If you felt you had a good interview, then I would say you really should be expecting that acceptance. I know I am!!!!!!! hehehehe so excited! basically, we're in much better shoes than EDP interviewees last year. I don't really need to go into why we are because you all heard Sandy's speech before our interviews. woooo soooo excited!!!!!!!

The stress of waiting for an answer is killing me.

I know I said that about the MCAT, and then about being verified, and then about getting the secondary, and then about being invited for an interview.

But seriously. THIS stress is the WORST.

Hey EDP-ers, feeling stressed? Make-sure to visit the interview-feedback page and let us know how it went! Maybe after re-hashing your experience will your confidence in your performance grow and solidify the notion that an acceptance is coming shortly!

I don't think I could possibly agree more. I even have reasons why!!!

1. For MCAT scores, at least we had a day/time we specifically knew they would be out.
2. For EDP applicant verification, the turn around time was under 24 hours for most people, so the wait was easy.
3. For interview invites, it was relatively stressful, but let's be honest it wasn't nearly as bad as waiting on the final decision....

Back to compulsively checking email.

It's so nice to have some support for feeling crazy with impatience..

You know how the archetype of Academic Admissions used to be waiting for the mail every day until you get the magical thick/thin envelope? And there would be all this nervousness and drama about the main characters in teen tv shows slowly opening the envelope and being unable to bear to look at the results.. In a really tiny way, I can see the value of that.

I mean, I'm thrilled KU does it by e-mail so we can find out 2-3 days earlier, but man, there's just no drama to clicking 'refresh' and suddenly seeing an e-mail whose subject line tells you your fate. :scared:

I found out my MCAT score (the day before it was supposed to be up) by walking across my room, picking up clothes, and stopping at the computer to hit F5 a few times. The second time I hit 'refresh', there it was - my MCAT score. I had no time to prepare myself, it was a shock.. I yelled in surprise and nearly fell over. 😛 (Haha, especially when I saw the score.)

And thanks, UTKD, that's a good point.

incorrect. you guys need to listen to ppl who already did this in the past. they told you it will not be any earlier than 1-2 days before Oct. 1st. that means we will not hear anything until next week. don't start frantically checking your email/status until next Monday. calm down. besides, the odds are HIGHLY in your favor that you will be accepted. i'm honestly not stressing much at all. be confident in yourself!

They outright said they're doing things differently this year, so indications from past years don't mean more than what the Dean actually said. And all confusion aside, last year the interviews weren't on the 14th-16th exactly, so given the same time period for decisions would still put it slightly off of Sept. 30th. And weekends fall on different days as well.

Just let us stress; it's fine. It will be done by Oct. 1.

I would still be stressing and checking all the time even if they did say Sept. 30.....like right now when I should be at least pretending to study for my test tomorrow...

yeah, last year the EDP interviews were on the 15th-17th and the decisions came out on the 29th-30th-ish. that's 2 weeks after. now, let's look at ours. we inteviewed on the 14-16th, so that'd be 28th-29th, which is next Monday-Tuesday. see. 🙂

I'm sure you and I will both be accepted and I hope to recognize you in class next year. I will be the one who argues with you everytime you're acting neurotic. 🙂

Everytime I glance at my gmail and there is a (1) next to the header....

Soooooo glad this might be my last inevitable wait.

The new email at my school shows you the Inbox right away...so I see the mail and the (1) at the same time. It's horrible.

Yeah, exactly. Gmail Inbox (1). OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

Oh wait.....

It's just my aunt, rambling about her 4H group.

hehe. I am about to ask people to NOT email me this week so I don't have a heart attack when I check my e-mail.

lol.
