My primary residence is in Kansas, but I've been living where I went to college for the past six years. I thought I was accepted as instate, but my website's residency status revealed that I'm OOS. So that means no in-state tuition for me. I know Mizzou allows for this, but does anybody know if OOS KUMed students can declare residency after a year?

I am aware of at least a few people who got put on hold and got in last year. They aren't putting people on hold purely for some sadistic pleasure (I assume...). To call being placed on hold a "death sentence" seems a bit extreme.

"a few people." exactly. they were the lucky ones. don't count on getting in if you're "on hold." do you want to know the actual, approximate breakdown for on-holders?

25% accepted, 25% waitlisted, 50% rejected. of the 25% waitlisted, like 10% will get off. btw, there seem to be ~200 people "on hold." I figured out all these #s last year when I was in that boat. did the smart thing and applied EDP this year, phew!

prepare for rejection and nothing will surprise you in a few a weeks. i DO hope everyone gets good news, though!!! 🙂 and congrats to everyone who is accepted! school's coming up fast!

I checked my MEDS page for the first time in a few weeks and it now says "no items received"... and all my stuff is deleted. This happen to anyone else?

Mine says the same thing.

A while back, Jason Edwards said the next time we use the MEDS page will be to give them measurements for the white coat ceremony. I wouldn't sweat it.

From what I understand, it is very, very hard to do that.

I have heard horror stories of people who got accepted as in-state with their primary residences in Kansas. They got apartments on the plaza on the MO side and had their tuition reassessed as out of state.

When we moved to KC and I was taking post-bacc courses at KU, I had to file an appeal to get in-state tuition even though I owned a house in KS. My husband's employer had to write a letter each semester stating that we had been "recruited" by a KS company and that we lived in KS and should get in-state tuition. Then when I could finally "apply for" in-state status, I had to submit about 50 pages of paperwork including utility bills, mortgage paperwork, and voter registration cards. Seriously, it sucks.

Call them and see if there isn't some sort of "appeal" that applies to you. Good luck.

MEDS page is back.
and with this addition:

Sandy McCurdy said:
Dear Applicant: As described on your interview day, we are still on track to send decision letters (accept, alternate list, and reject) in mid-March. Letters will be mailed to the preferred mailing address currently held in the AMCAS database. Thanks, Sandy McCurdy 3/2/10

last year they were told they'd hear by the 17th and heard by the 12th. (letters were mailed that day and MEDS page was updated that night.)
gl to everyone still waiting to hear.

Hey - FYI, I talked to Jason a long while back and he said there are not going to be any status updates this year. Only Letters. Apparently a ton of people called last cycle to check if the status update was a mistake or their actual final decision. You might check with Jason on this now that it's March but I don't think they'll update the MEDS page for you guys and gals.

I just talked to Jason and he said that decisions will be mailed on March 8th for those of us that interviewed in February..

Has everyone's financial aid awards been posted yet?

My FAFSA has been processed but no word from KU yet...Is there something else that we're supposed to do?

Also, has everyone already received the scholarship application that was supposed to come in late february?

From Sandy's email:

In later February, the School of Medicine will send an email to you that provides the link to the SOM's scholarship application. It is NOT due February 14!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if your referring to the same general SOM scholarship application Im thinking of.. it was due on March 1st. I received an email reminder about 5 days before hand. Hopefully something can be worked out in your case if you did indeed miss it. I have also received no word from KU regarding the FAFSA yet.

I have been holding out, waiting for the packet that was supposed to come in February with financial aid stuff. My FAFSA has been complete and processed for some time now as well, I don't plan to call about it unless the financial aid packet is void of any information about it.

I hope that they agree to waive the deadline for you if you never got it. I managed to slide into homeplate just under the glove as it was - I completely forgot about it that weekend.

As for the FAFSA, I got mine in in plenty of time for the Feb 14 deadline but haven't heard anything either. I'm wondering if they only work it up for the students who have sent in their confirmation of acceptance?

I just got an email from KUMC staying that I had "satisfactory academic progress" necessary for financial aid... in other news, I never heard/received information about any scholarship link or due date. Where is the information on that application and can you only apply after you have been accepted? I sure am ready for those letters to go out Monday!

Maybe there is a rolling deadline for the scholarship application based on when you received word of your acceptance for those who hadnt prior to march 1st

Maybe SDN just became really popular this year but last year there were only four pages. AND, that followed two ppl who were waiting on the waitlist until July!

Man class of 2014 uses the computer waaay too much! 😉

Good luck to all you March Decision Letters!

So I guess those letters will arrive...what?...Thursday?

Let us know how it goes! 🙂

is it just the february interviewees that get their decisions mailed tomorrow? or is it for those of us on hold as well?
(gl to all)

It's for everyone. There is nothing special to send the February interviewees.

They only get accept, deny, or waitlist letters like everyone else.

So, yeah, every that is waiting gets a letter around this Thursday.

i just thought that the decisions for februrary might have been completed but there might be another wednesday meeting for the hold people.
i'm glad it will be this week, hope it's good news.:luck:

Good luck to everyone waiting on those March letters!!!!

Does anyone know for sure when the letters are being mailed?

The word is, today.

I think last year someone called on monday to see if the letters were actually sent out on Monday. Regardless, not much waiting left...🙂

I don't follow this forum all that much but I do have 3 things to say to everyone who is waiting (and yes that includes me). First, whoever was complaining about being on hold since January remember that there are those of us that interviewed back in October who have been waiting a long time so sorry but not much sympathy from me 🙂. Being "on hold" is certainly not a death sentence!!! I personally know someone with an 18 MCAT get in 2 years ago. Which brings me to my second point, a lot of people on this forum like to act like we all have a shot in H-E-double hockey sticks at getting in. We all need to remember that KU or any medical school would be lucky to have us and that this year there are more applicants than usual. Just relax and stop wasting your spare time calculating stats that are basically just freaking people out. And yes I am just as OCD and crazy as any other Med school applicant so my final thing to share is that I e-mailed Jason Edwards and asked what day letters should be sent and of course the answer was vaguely the week of March 8. So knowing our luck, I'm counting on the letters going out Wed or Thur. WHY SNAIL MAIL?😡

Just to let you guys know I talked to Jason and he said that letters would be mailed out today and tomorrow and that we should all know by friday. No online updates this year.

But after, being persistent and not giving up, I'll finally start in July and I can tell you the low feelings of rejection(s) do not even compare to the high of an acceptance. If you want it, fight for it. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy to attain to use a cliche. That's the short of it.
Congrats on sticking to it and making your dream happen! Having worked in other fields for several years, I KNOW without a doubt that this is what I must do with my life, so I decided to apply until I got in. Several people told me it was hopeless for me with my earlier academic record. I could not be happier that I was accepted this first year!!!

I hope you who don't make it in this year reapply. In 10 years, a year won't make a difference if you are finally doing what you truly want to do. I wish I hadn't given up 9 years ago, but it's worth it for me to bust my butt to come back and do it NOW at 30 yrs old.

It is ridiculous that in a country with a doctor shortage there are still so few spots open for that they have to split hairs to decide between so many extremely qualified, brilliant students. PLS OPEN MORE SCHOOLS!

The anticipation is palpable...

So apparently there weren't supposed to be any prior status updates last year.

However, last year they updated peoples' statuses the Wednesday night before they received their letters.

Although it'll probably be fruitless, spend every second until midnight hitting the F5 button on the MEDS page.

OMZY, how are the other apps going for Temple and Missouri?

Waiting is always the hardest part. Good luck for all of you expecting letters this month, I can't wait to meet you all in July!!!

OMZY, how are the other apps going for Temple and Missouri?

Hey UTKD, thanks for asking. Not too well, I think. Got wait-listed at Temple and outright rejected at Columbia-MO. The wait-list at Temple still stands as a pretty good shot since their waitlist moves a ton, but I'm really hoping for some good news here, despite what others are saying. :xf:

Edit: Just updated my MDApps too

Interesting... Jaydoc24, the avg accepted was 224? Wow this year they said they're only filling to 200 spots. By extension, maybe the waitlist movement will be much larger this year!

It was said in the "Hold" letter from Sandra.

Welp, the jig is up for me. Congrats to all those that made it this year. For those of you that didn't, I look forward to your company next cycle. 🙄

I am so sorry OMZY. Good luck Buddy. Please oh Please, Keep your head up kid. Just from talking to you a few times on the phone I can tell you're a pretty smart and good guy.

Please let us know if Temple works out!

If nothing works out, I hope to see you at KU next year!

good luck to those that haven't heard, and congrats to those that get good news.

Sorry Omzy don't give up follow your dream... On a brighter note I got accepted!!!! I will see you guys this summer! Heck yeah! I can't even express how good I feel right now...

Keithokc, congrats!!

Did they update your MEDS Page?

To those of you that have heard back, do you all live in the KC area? I'm in Lawrence, KS and I was expecting to get my letter today, but I didn't...the anticipation is killing me.

My gf is in Lawrence and she didn't get her letter...

Thanks for the response guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one from Lawrence who didn't get a letter yet. Definitely tomorrow then...

She actually called Jason about an hour ago and he said the letters were sent out Tuesday and Wednesday. She said she didn't see any rhyme or reason as to the order in which they sent them....

I just finished reading this thread and want to say congrats to everyone who made it in and good luck to those who still waiting and those who are going to attempt it again next year! I'm planning on applying next cycle (AMCAS in 2011), so hopefully I'll be at KU with y'all in a couple years!
:luck::luck:
