Well, I'm just learning that the only thing you can do is: WAIT.

For all these schools, waiting is the best you can do. Even with in-depth status updates, it's not going to make anything happen sooner or later or at all. Einstein does it their way which is different than some other school's way, etc. The one thing that remains constant with all of them is that if you wait long enough, you'll find something out. I'm happy waiting. They'll definitely get back to me. I sent them an app, so they'll look at it and tell me if they want to interview me.

lol yeah people need to chill and relax. if people need to make a move, then do it. no need to go crazy/rant on sdn. if not, no worries. like yankees said patience, waiting is all you can do.

I would take a bus service from jfk to grand central ($~mid teens) and then the express bus to einstein ($5.50).

The student host I'm staying with just emailed me this same advice. The BxM10 express bus, right? But from the schedule I see on the website, it looks like the express bus doesn't stop at Grand Central, just at Madison and 23rd, Madison and 52nd, and further uptown. Can you catch it at Grand Central too?

Just kidding... Einstein's website says it stops at Madison and 44th too, so I guess that's it. I wish MTA's website would show this too...

Haha, yeah, the express bus schedules only show selected stops. I don't know the exact time mine "officially" comes, but I do know what time it comes to the stop before. I usually end up running to the bus for one reason or another.

It's real easy to get to 44th and madison from GC. Give yourself plenty of time, plan for an early bus just in case you miss it or if there's traffic. And tell your bus driver where you plan to get off and sit in front. They don't stop unless you request it. Though many should be getting off at Einstein so you'll be fine. Take some time to enjoy New York, too, if you can.

Why is my status still read 'Secondary Application Received'??!! My 2nd app was completed on Aug 17. Does it usually take this long???????????

I am on about the same schedule as you. Had everything in on around the 15th and still says that. No complete email either.

Interview invite for Einstein! I'm super psyched! I submitted 8/3, but wasn't complete until 8/31. Good luck guys!

@anfleisch: I actually called on 8/31 to ask about the status of my application. I spoke to a SUPER nice lady (I think it was a Mrs. Joan Baldassarri) and apparently there was a problem with one of my LORs, which we quickly fixed. She sent me a complete email right after! Maybe you should call about your status since you may be experiencing the same problem.

Tennis, a question for you.

What did you have as status before you called? I am curious, because i think the school is all over the place with those website updates. In fact, they may be meaningless.

I would have to agree that Einstein's statuses are super confusing. From what I remember, before I called, I had the "Secondary Received" status. However, once I called in and became complete, my status switched to "File under preliminary review." I actually still have this status right now, even though I already confirmed an interview date (October 19th, anyone else with this interview date?). Although, this could be because they haven't updated my status yet today. I hope this helps!

My status currently says "Preliminary Screening Completed" and it has been this way for about a week or two.

Does anyone know what this means?? Thanks

Does that mean if our application says secondary application received since August 15th, I should call too? What was the problem with LORs?

Thanks! What I suspected. I have been in that status File under Preliminary Review since day 1!!

I'm trying to book my flight for the interview, but does anyone know what time the day concludes? my interview is scheduled for 9:15AM...

is ~6:30 a reasonable flight time to make it from the interview, back to the room, change and gather all my stuff, and make it to the airport (JFK or LGA, not sure which)??

edit: website says 2pm...but is it possible to make that 630 flight without taking a cab?

Interview invite today. I don't have a "status" listed anywhere on my application. =\

My status says "Preliminary Screening Completed" and I just received an interview invite today. I hadn't checked my status before so I'm not sure how recently it changed...

does anyone know the percentage of people who apply that get interviewed and the percentage of people who get interviewed that eventually get accepted?

For 2007, 7416 applied, 1446 interviewed, 541 were accepted, 183 enrolled

For 2008 (just to provide more info), 7,383 applications and 1,236 interviews. 182 enrolled (don't have # of accepted... but it's probably around 540)

I got an invite this morning as well! 🙂 12/16 interview

When did you submit your secondary? I only received an email saying that my secondary was complete... though I'm not sure that it means my file is complete. 😕

And apparently the online statuses are pretty unreliable, so I won't even go there. 😀

And congrats! btw. forgot to add that in. 🙂

I received the complete email on 9/3 and had the "File Complete" status for a while. It changed to "Preliminary Screening Completed" last week and then I got the invite this morning. It still shows "Preliminary Screening Completed" on the status page ...

I hope this helps some!

Good Luck!

Thanks! On 8/31 I received a complete email that started with "We are happy to inform you that your application to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is complete, and will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee."

I think my website status updates were actually fairly reliable as it changed from file under preliminary review to preliminary screening completed about 2 days ago and the invite was quick to follow. Hope this helps!

Interview scheduled for 12/17 🙂

I submitted the secondary on July 30, I received a complete email on Aug 27, and I got the invite on 9/15. Not sure about the online statuses

Has anyone interviewed here yet?

Maybe I'm just a little out of it, but I'm confused as to how to schedule my interview. There are no forms online. Do I just email them with my preferred dates?

I think it means that our file has been reviewed and no interview was offered.

No - it just means that your app was reviewed and either you have been denied an interview or you should be hearing "shortly," as in anytime between now and when the interview season ends.

I emailed the interview coordinator with my preferred dates and got a confirmation email (with my 3rd choice). Her email address is in the invitation email

So basically, it tells me....that I might be rejected or I might not be. 😛

@ carbear

I don't think that is the complete email. The email had a "Completed Application" title and said this:

"We are happy to inform you that your application to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is complete, and will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

If you have applied to the combined M.D./Ph.D. Program, you will be contacted directly by that Office. Please keep in mind that the deadline for completion of the M.D./Ph.D. application for the 2011 entering class is December 1.

If your application is favorably reviewed during a preliminary screening, you will be invited for an interview via email. We would appreciate your not calling the office to ascertain the disposition of your folder.

We thank you again for your interest in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and wish you much success."

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I received BOTH of these complete emails and my online status still says "Secondary Received" Now I think they're just playing with me...

I just got an interview invite two days ago, but my booking options started in December. Anyone know why this is so late? Do they start interviewing late? As a comparison, The day before I got an FIU interview and my options were this Friday or next.

They have been offering interviews for quite awhile. All the earlier dates are now filled up.

Hey,

For those that scheduled interviews, did any of you guys ever receive the MD Applicant guide mentioned in this link below? I'm interviewing on Monday and never noticed it was something that was supposed to "snail mailed" out.

http://www.einstein.yu.edu/admissions/page.aspx?id=21134

I have not gotten one, but I'm not interviewing for a while yet (early December, I couldn't schedule anywhere around Thanksgiving because my brother, his fiancee, and her entire family are coming to visit, and her family is from Japan so this will be my only chance to meet them before the wedding).

Odd though that they would put that in there. I saw something like that for Case Western and though my interview is two weeks away, I have not gotten mail from them either.

I interview in a few days. Never got anything.

AWesome...thanks for hte responses guys!

Btw, is anyone going to "attend classes" there? They have a link for an OLD calendar...(from 2009). I assume I can just "follow my host" ...or "sleep in" til 11AM when I have to show up (for a jetlagged west coaster, I think I'd prefer the latter. 😛)

I think there is a link to the guide on the admissions home page.

During my interview day, I showed up at 11 but there was nothing to do till 12, so the people in the admissions office directed us to a 2nd year class which we sat in for like half an hour.

Invite! Super sick!!! Submitted 7/25, complete 8/23, invite 9/17.
