this myth has to stop, i'm sure no school looks for not-great-stats as a plus in admissions

that being said, chin up dude, the road to a successful career in medicine is paved with BU rejections

Hahaha . As a re-applicant, the first rejection of a new season before any invites is like salt on the open wound.

I'm complete 7/13, no rejection yet... I'm guessing if I make it through these next few days it's a good sign?

soo nerve-wracking... :scared:

I thought that BU was going in order of date of completion, so when people that were complete on 07/08 were receiving rejections, I thought that I was safe (I was complete 07/07). However, I was rejected last night (on a Sunday night, strangely enough). Boo.

Best of luck everyone!

Sorry to hear that.

Maybe the person assigned to do your batch was a little behind? Who knows.

A sunday night, huh?... wow...sounds like their adcom doesn't mind working overtime. Now I can't even enjoy my weekends anymore, lol. I'll constantly fear that any minute, I'll check my e-mail and will get the big reject. 🙁. Completed 07/15.

I feel your pain. Why BU Why did you have to reject me so early in the year

How do they notify you of a decision? Do they email you?

Yup, they send out an email that says there's an update to your status and copies a form letter below that explains the decision. Oh well, a BU rejection won't ruin my day. Good luck to everyone else!

Haha, correct. It's not like BU, or any school, goes thru and finds the really great stat people and says: "Oh, goody, let's reject them, they're too awesome for us!!"

BU is def not a stats *****, and they are looking for MORE than top numbers. But there are plenty, plenty of 4.0 GPAs here and plenty of 38+ MCATS.

But there are also some 3.5/33s like me!!!!

But if I could name one common quality that pretty much everyone here has, it is to have shown a commitment to volunteerism and/or a commitment to underserved populations and/or an experience outside your comfort zone (like overseas service of some kind).

Take heart top-stat people -- if BU isn't the place for you, you'll get in at other terrific places.

how the heck do they decide to reject a 36 without an interview? If I may ask, what was your breakdown?

I don't think it goes in perfect order of completion. Complete 7/2 here, no rejection.

Breakdown: 11P/10V/15B

I'm pretty ok with the rejection though. It's the first result I've gotten so far, so it's kind of cool...I just hope it doesn't set a precedent.

well, as predicted...

Rejected.

OOS, 35, 3.9. Complete 07/13

Like I said, you will probably get into most of the cali schools so it is moot point. I know a lot of people who'd give anything to go to a Cali school over the ultra expensive BU any day of the week due to many different reasons.

Aw, thanks. 🙂 I wish I were as confident as you are about my ability to score a UC acceptance. And you are correct, I would take an acceptance here in Cali over BU any day...

Just joined the sad-face crowd today. 39Q, 3.33. Completed 7/13

.

At least I have one thing going for me...

My stats are pretty similar to yours. Not that I buy into the "let's reject the high stats first"...

Complete 7/13, rejected today... 29M c3.67/s3.63

anyone actually gotten an interview invite? or are they only sending out a ton of rejections?

Maybe they haven't given any interview invites yet.

Is anyone else annoyed by the posts of the gujuDoc guy? He seems to be the know-all person at Boston or something. Until you're a med student, I think you should tone down you opinions a bit.

well, he is a "health student."

Rejected. 34Q/3.55. 3.7 without freshman year. damnit freshman year and drinking haha

My friend and I were both rejected today. He has a 3.8/38 and I have a 4.0/37. I was complete 7/12 or so.

Well, that was at least the nicest rejection letter I have yet received 😉

Oddly enough, those traits you speak of: volunteerism and helping underserved--are two points I have in my application...and I was still rejected by BU. I guess I just wasn't "good enough" with a 3.8/32.

I get it, with 10K+ applicants, it's hard to narrow it down...people have to get cut lol.

Damn. You both are very strong statistically. Any idea why the early rejection? (lack of research or volunteering?)

We both have over a year of research and two years of clinical stuff. He has some teaching. I have non-medical volunteering. I don't know why either of us got rejected.

Your friend sounds like a sexy beast, and if I was a medical school, I would admit him pre-interview.

Nah there are people with those stats who got in but like you said too many applicants to take all the good applicants. I saw that you are also applying to a few other schools I'm applying to. Good luck with them. You will get interviews somewhere down the line.

Thanks! Good luck to you too! I'm not hurt by BU's rejection, I knew it was coming...I'm just thankful for the two other interviews I have under my belt at this time. Without those, I'd be somewhat worried about my "application package"

Third year at BU. If you guys have any specific questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.

sorry bud, but she has not been wrong about anything yet.

as for why tons of california people are getting rejected :it just seems like that because all of the california (UC) applications flooded in at similar times and so a significant portion of the applications were california-based. I mean it makes legitimate sense, a very large portion of all applications will more or less come from california given its size.

Don't think so much into this "you're too qualified" or "you're from california" - it's not true.

Nah my experience is most californians are generally competitive enough that they round about with an acceptance somewhere. 😀 😀 Good :luck: at the interviews.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful words gujuDoc...same to you! 🙂

Sooo true. I've not been rejected yet because I'm on hold due to certain reasons. Hopefully won't be this time, but i remember 2 years ago that rejections from BU were far more polite then a couple of the other ones i got 2 years ago or more recently from FIU. The worst was probably from FIU. I feel like my personal experience with BUSM seemed like they were far more fair as a school then FIU or a couple of other schools.

Is it bad that all I want to hear about are the "non polite" rejections now?🙂

I've been ousted. First rejection of the cycle. ~3.8, low 30s mcat. There goes 110 dollars into the wind!

=/ Sorry about the bad news. It's just the start of the season, so opportunities still abound!

Would you mind sharing when you completed? I want to guestimate when my rejection letter's coming.

I got rejected this morning... 35Q 4.0
Complete: 7/15
Email received: 7:50 AM

Really sorry to hear about the rejects. I'm sure I'll be joining the ranks soon so we can commiserate then.

Do they send out those e-mails the same time each day?

I wanna know if I can breathe if I don't see it tomorrow morning... or should I freak out every time I sign onto my e-mail.

Also, if possible, can people add the date they were complete? (if you do an edit, there wouldn't be a spam of posts)

Rejected! But I saw that coming, as my scores are low. It's actually kind of a relief to get it over with. Complete 7/15.
