Sammich117 - can you give us an idea of when waitlist movement begins at FSU? Judging by last year... what is the SOONEST that the Committee will begin selecting people off the waitlist?
I haven't the faintest idea, sorry 🙁 They don't announce that to us. It depends how many people commit to their acceptance vs how many go elsewhere, etc. It varies. Let them know if you're still interested, though!

Does anyone know anything about their financial aid packages yet? I haven't received anything and was accepted in Feb.? I keep checking the student toolkit but still nothing. Urgh!

i posted a while back but it answer your question

the scholarship(s) if you get it only cover for Fall and Spring. So summer you will be either paying out of pocket or though loans
So I would not worry about the scholarship, until you are accepted, you will have PLENTY of time to do them in during ORIENTATION week!!

it costs over $18,000 in tuition for me. so divide it by 3 (summer, fall and spring) and you are responsible for ~6K in tuition
($$ could go up) but >6K is a good bet

Remember to do 2010-11 FAFSA (this is for summer aid if you have done it already then just add FSU ID# to it) as well as the 2011-12 FAFSA.

I think the committee always look at the people on the waitlist and the people that just interviewed.

but you should see a lot of movement soon. 2 people on here have already moved on to other schools, so hang in there.

waiting is more nerve-wracking than applying. biiiiiiig sadface. 🙁

well that's the thing about applying. Its not putting in the app that is the hard part. it is all the waiting that goes on in this process.

First they make us wait 1 month for mcat scores, then 1 month to submit amcas after it has opened even if we have everything else ready. We also have to wait on letter writers in between. Then we wait for secondaries. then we wait for interviews which sometimes is not til spring when we get all of our interviews. We then get to wait for decisions. Then if they waitlist us we get to wait some more.

and aren't they still interviewing til the end of this month? I wonder if that is why there is not yet much movement.

Although I don't understand how they interview til end of April if they start only a month after that. This means only a month for waitlist movement to start.

that is the most hectic part!
I know one person that lived in a hotel room during orientation week because he got of the waitlist just in time. And there are stories of people throwing stuff in their car and drive up here for orientation because they got accepted

haha that will be me...all the way from michigan...I'll just park a UHaul in front of the COM....

i think I did your interview hosting. I remember some one from U of Michigan

No way!! Supposedly I'm the only person from U of M they've ever had interview, so it must have been me 🙂

Also, heard from Ms. Urrutia today--the Hold list will not be ranked until after they finish up interviews next week, then it will become an ordered alternate list.

If I get into wayne state, I'll be doing the opposite. Going all the way to mich unless UCF comes through. hahaha. lol

^_^ Wayne is 15 mins from my house. Don't park your UHaul anywhere in Detroit 😛

Kind of random question... does anyone know when exactly the last interviews are for this season? Is it next week?! I know waitlist movement won't start until they're actually done interviewing... just curious if anyone knows an exact end to the FSU interview season

Looks like next week is the only possibility of remaining interviews as it is the last week of the month and interviews end with the end of april.

Looks like I won't be getting one. I have discounted this to rejection pile at this point.

Good luck to the rest of you though.

Just wanted to chime in and give some encouragement that there's still a chance:

i JUST got an interview invite TODAY (around 10 AM)

They have no interview sessions available friday so I was scheduled for Monday morning (two sessions Monday - which is also the last day they are interviewing)

So at this point in the cycle, am I pretty much just interviewing to get a hold spot (vs rejection) since they've given out all the acceptances? Guess I can't get my hopes up too high...

This is my one and only interview invite (out of 27 schools) so I'm hoping it's the one! Thanks!

I would not say that. I interviewed 2 years ago on the last day (May1) and I was accepted without being on the Waitlist!! It was my one and only interview. So there is a chance, just make sure you bring your A game and smile a lot.

Do you mind saying when you submitted your app? I submitted early October and still anxiously waiting, but just about gave up hope 🙁

Just to add to that--at that point (the very end of the cycle) you could very well get an outright acceptance because they will have a more accurate idea of how many spots are/should be available

It was all of us kids who interviewed from the point after they accepted their quota to before they had an idea how many would be dropping (it seems) who are stuck on the hold boat, if that makes sense.

I think you would have gotten one today 🙁 since Monday is the last day for interviews and the AdCom meets on Tuesday nights...

But I could be wrong!! They might still talk about people tonight to offer interviews for monday

If it means anything to you, I was complete on the last possible day they accepted applications, and interviewed on March 18.

Sure thing, I was marked complete on 10/20 and put "Under Review" on 11/10.

I don't know how many interview spots they have left to give out but maybe people canceled or something so don't give up hope just yet! I had and was SO surprised when I got the email.

And thanks everyone for the encouragement! I'm really hoping to kill this interview and get a spot! 😀

wow hope u get in. That's tough this being ur only interview. and I thought i had it tough. Somehow I still got 2 interviews and one in nov.

That's tough man. I'd go crazy if that was my case. lol.

My friend just gave up his interview spot there. I don't think I will get one though. But hopefully UCF or wayne work out though. They'd prob. be better for me anyhow with my desire to live in a city.

Edited to say better for me, not better. cuz each school is good in its own way. Didn't want to imply FSU was a worse school.

Detroit seems to be really hit or miss with people, which generally makes people's experiences at Wayne miserable or great.

Personally, I LOVE Detroit, lived there until I moved to Ann Arbor to go to U of M. Definitely keeps your head on your shoulders and reminds you how lucky you are to have everything you do in your life. And the DMC is a really exciting place.

I had the chance to shadow in a Detroit ER, it was NUTS.

Well, U of M is a punishment compared to Detroit. (I'm from another big 10 school, so I gotta kid a little)

Anyway, if any of you guys have questions, it is probably easier to PM me at this point. Step 1 is looming and all, so I haven't been visiting as much!

Ah I see. That's interesting. good luck with everything.

So looks like last week of interviews is this week and I never heard anything so guess I'm rejected from here.

Thanks for the support guys! I does feel amazing MrDavi!!!!! Def cant wait to meet u as well!
Have u started looking at apartments??? I have to start my search but I wanna live in a nice place with a safe surrounding area!

Check out Southwood 😀 It's far away from the loudness/craziness of those undergrads and its posh to boot

I lived far away from campus first year and really close second year. Haven't really noticed much of a difference, except this year I spend dramatically less on gas and I get a few drunken yells once in a while. I pay less to live closer. The place isn't as nice, but I'm rarely there, so it doesn't really matter to me.

I'm looking into Colony Club 🙂 close for the win. I'd love to live with other med students though, and I posted that on the C/O 2015 facebook, but no bites yet 🙁 any ideas how to go about finding roomies?

I'm pretty sure my other room is opening up. A grad student lives there now. The place is basically right behind Colony Club.

A lot of people last year subleased for the summer and then found the people they thought they were compatible with to sign a lease with.

Hey guys, I'm currently waitlisted at FSU and am hoping to hear some good news soon. For those of you who have been accepted and are trying to find housing I will be renting one room, and two if I am not accepted here, in my townhouse NE of campus. If anyone wants more details you can pm me.

The place that Sammich is in is MUCH nicer than colony club. The major caveat is the living with another person. If you want a single, then it isn't probably a great gamble to take.

I actually live at "renegade condos". They are your typical single and 2 bedroom apartments around here, but pretty cheap. It is literally next to the stadium. I see the stadium every day when I walk out. They are individually owned/leased, so it is kind of the luck of the draw with the landlord. My guy is good. He even gives you a bag of addressed envelopes so you can just plop your check in and go each month. He also lets you pay upfront for a couple of months or the year if you'd prefer and has been prompt with all needed repairs.

My place is a little more run down than some others, but we are gated with security cameras. They also hire a security guard for game days.

There is a brand new place right next door to me, arrowhead or something like that. It looks like it could be pretty nice. I like living close enough to campus that I could walk, but far enough away that I don't have to look at school...did I mention it is cheap? (Not paying for cable or internet helps)

Well, they should be making some admission decisions tonight, so that'll get the housing-search hopefully moving for me 🙂

this is true... do you think they will contact waitlist people this week though?

Dana said that they would likely know an alternate list order after interviews were completed, so I would assume some people will be contacted this week, and more as we get closer to orientation.

Fingers crossed!!

Remember that no matter what happens, you aren't out of the game until class (not orientation) starts. Once it hits that point, it is doubtful. I was accepted the Friday before orientation and one of my friends was accepted halfway through orientation. She dropped everything, packed up her car and drove here that day. She probably missed the most painful parts of orientation too.

As a side note, I didn't notice I passed 7,000 posts. Hoorayyyyyy. Probably would be higher if I didn't randomly go MIA every once in a while.

I would drop everything and come now...mostly because it would get me out of my biochem final 🙁(((

and hooray!

Eh its probably better that it isn't higher. some people tend to criticize those who have a handful of posts and others get critical of those who have too many.

Mosspoh and sammich,

I must, however, thank you both. though i didn't get the interview here this year it was comforting knowing there were 2 medical students taking time to help others. I'm sure the others agree on that point too. Its well appreciated.

Aw, you're very welcome.

I'm sorry FSU didn't work out for you 🙁

Trying to find a new roommate already, Sam? 🙂

Yes you too locus000 😀 😀 😛 😛 😉 😉

😍

Sorry, I knew I was forgetting someone. :meanie:

You know on that note, in all seriousness, i have to say something.

if the rest of the med students at FSU med are anything like locus, sammich, mosspoh, etc. then I can imagine that FSU med school will be a good experience for those of you planning on being there in the fall. Seems like you 3 plus the several others I've known whove gone there in past years seemed to be all chill laid back people, which is really nice. This was also the impression I got back in 2004 when i visited the med school for a premed medical school forum thing. Back then me and the other aed members took an unofficial tour of the building. That was the year the building opened. And all the med students we met were really, really nice then too.

Good luck to you guys in the fall. And for those of you on the waitlist I hope you get your wishes to come off of it. 🙂

Did anyone receive an acceptance or call yesterday?

During my interview monday I heard someone say something like there was only one interview on a certain day last week..

Also, for the waitlisted people, I think what's going to happen is the committee will meet and decide on the final group of interviews (how ever many on friday and the 8 we had on monday) next tuesday and let us know by wednesday and then shortly after will meet and rank the waitlisted people and then send out acceptances based on that list..

So i think waitlist people will hear sometime after next wednesday (possibly the following week), though this is just my opinion and I have no info to back that up, lol. I also have no idea how many spots are open..

good luck everyone!!!!

Thank you for the kind words and you're quite welcome. I enjoy helping out because it is a reminder of how stressful the process was for me. The funny thing is, I'm kind of known for being the grumpy study troll in real life this year.

I'm sure we can all testify that there are flaws with our school, but I still enjoy it all the same. I TRY to be as honest as possible with my representation of the school.

Best of luck with the two schools. It is pretty amazing how long we've communicated through these boards now. I still remember when I was applying and how active you were then!

Oh, and considering I've been here since 2006 and lurking for a little while before that, I think 7000 is pretty reasonable. 😉 I mean, look at Sammich there. She signed up in 2009. 😛
