Does anyone know if the next admission board meeting is tomorrow? I remember them saying something about Nov. 2 during the interview, but wasnt sure.. Good luck to those who are interviewing!👍

I will be there on the 9th, when are you going?

Thursday!! I'm excited.

Fishsticks...November 2?? Noo I was afraid of that. I guess I'll find out when I'll come up at the meeting, but it probably won't be until December...therefore, probably too late for the first batch of acceptances...and I'll have to wait until February (at least). Sooo much waiting. 👎

startswithb, yea im pretty sure they said the board meeting was tomorrow. You are right about the waiting though! 👎.. btw so when the first batch comes around, how many acceptances do they give out? Is it a third of the expected class size (72) or is it a third of how many acceptances they give out (150ish)?

1/3 of the class of 72.

They should be meeting today. I'll ask if I see anyone.

I got an interview today! My mcat sucks. its a 26Q, but I have a 3.8 GPA and am originally from southern/central illinois.

So my question is: how many people that are interviewed get accepted? Is it a pretty good number? Ahh I just hope I get in!

The website says that they have about 300 interviews, and last year they offered 145 acceptances. I believe they interview a large portion of the central/southern IL residents, regardless of stats. That does not mean they will accept you, though. I learned this the hard way last year.

How were your stats?

Still, if its about a 50 percent chance... I'll take it 😀

So if the comittee meeting was yesterday, does anyone know when they would tell us if we made the AWPA list?

Its via snail mail. I found out a week after the meeting.

AWPA today via snail mail !! I know its not an acceptance, but im still excited... Does anyone know the stats for getting an accpetance from this list?

Also can those who are going to other schools withdraw as to not make me wait longer than I have to.. lol , JK..
Good luck to those interviewing and waiting !

well they haven't made it all the way through the AWPA list in years so it's kinda hard to say at this point what the odds are. If you're in the top half then you're probably in, if you're in the bottom half things get less certain. And unfortunately you don't get to know what part of the list you're on until all the interviews are over.
Welcome to this glorious process! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

I had a fabulous time interviewing at SIU! Everyone was so nice. A med student even stopped and talked to me about the school because he noticed I was walking around in a suit and asked me if I was interviewing.

The next committee meeting is Nov 23rd!! That means the next batch of AWPAs come out the week of Thanksgiving! I am so excited/nervous! :xf:

Congratulations to everyone! Could you please post what your GPA / MCAT / and activites listed on your application were? What do you think is the most important thing that SIU is looking for in a medical student? Do any of the SIU medical students blog on a website?

We don't that I know of, but there are a couple of us on here that if you have specific questions you can ask (but don't expect a fast response this week or next, it's end of CRR crunch time).

Most important thing is fitting the mission of the school.

You should be studying.

Interview scheduled for Nov 29. Both interviews are in the mornings so I should be done at 12:30 after the campus tour. Anyone else interviewing on the 29th?

Hey Caesar since you seem to be the go to guy for all things SIU (lol) , do you know about how many AWPA will be handed out before the first batch of acceptances? you probably dont, but thought I'd still ask..

Thanks

I am not sure that anyone knows that, it depends on the number of applicants interviewed and the number deemed suitable for admission. I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is no quota or goal or anything like that either.

Thanks for answering my dumb question.. I am just getting really anxious and just want to get in already.:xf:

I tried for the 29th but got the 30th instead.

Can anyone recommend a hotel that is near Memorial Medical Center?

I lived at Comfort suits and the hotel is 6-8 mins from the Memorial Medical Center. Hotel was pretty nice, but there are lot of hotels in that area. And memorial medical center is actually right across the street from SIU admission office.
Hope that helps!
Good luck with the interview man!

So I managed to get an interview on the 19th, but does anyone know if that's early enough to be considered for the first batch?

Next Tuesday is their next committee meeting. So that means by next Friday the next batch of AWPAs or rejections will be in our mailbox. Since it's a holiday I will be home and able to intercept the letter immediately!

It was just March when I got the letter last cycle. That was a terrible day for sure....

Guys, I understand that acceptances are offered in 3 batches, and the first batch come out in December. Does anyone know roughly when in December? Thanks. Caesar, would you know roughly when? 😀

I think I got mine around the 15th of December. It is after the committee meeting for that month.

According to last years thread, you got your decision on Dec. 3rd (thursday). How did you get the news Caesar, was it by e-mail or phone call.. Thanks for your help man!

You should try and e-mail E. Wilson to ask him. His is super quick and nice about returning a response.

I believe acceptances came out last year in an email with a copy of the formal letter attached. :xf:

The next meeting is tomorrow, but the meeting for acceptances is again on december 3 this year according to my interview day.

Thanks for the info!! I'm guessing we will get our decision letters from tomorrow maybe on Friday. :xf::luck:

haha thanks for looking that up for me!

We are on break right now for a week, so I am not sure when the meetings are. EW is super responsive to emails. His admissions secretary will also answer any questions.

My notification came as an email with a copy of the physical letter attached, the letter was also mailed to my house.

Evan says the first batch will most likely go out next week, sent via e-mail, followed by hard copy. Only accepted applicant will be notified. Hope this helps!

Caesar would know. EW or his secretary responded to all 27209348232 of Caesar's emails last year. :poke:

<3 you

I got my AWPA today! WooHoo! I held it up to my letter from March, and it felt great. If anyone reading received Prospective Reapplicant, PM me and I'd be happy to share my experience.

Congrats!! Hope we both get the real deal next week:xf:

I can't believe the first batch is this week!! Who else is on AWPA waiting with me?! :xf:😍:xf:

My interview is FINALLY tomorrow. Maybe a little late to make it in with the first batch but I'm so ready for this. I'm leaving for Springfield this evening (I live about 1.5 hours away). Do I need to bring anything but my schedule with me and also what exactly takes place at the welcoming at 8:15 am?

You really dont need to bring anything else with you. Maybe a pen to write with and a folder with some paper in it, just in case. The welcoming thing is when you sit with the other people being interviewed and Evan talks about the program, school , etc.

I'm going to be freaking out all day tomorrow and Friday. Last year they came out on a Thursday..but someone in this thread said it would be Dec. 3 which is Friday. AHH! I am totally getting my hopes up. I can't help it. :xf::xf::xf::xf::luck:😱:scared::poke::diebanana::boom:
