Is there a student host program offered for people interviewing at the Phoenix campus? I've got an interview for mid-November and was not sure if this is something that has been set up.

I interviewed yesterday and they never mentioned it in the emails leading up to the day, during the day itself, or during the interview day survey. You should call Wendy to confirm.

It's something that's in the works I believe. There are issues like liability and insurance and stuff to straighten out.

You will end up getting a final complete letter in the hours after your interview. Congrats on the invite!

Yep! Tucson indeed. I have my Phoenix interview on Nov. 1st and I am getting excited about that one as well! It will be interesting to see the different culture/vibe the Phoenix campus has, as well as learn more about their mysterious interview process.

Thank you for your interest in The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix for a position in the 2011 entering class. To stay compliant with the Association of American Medical College (AAMC) national "traffic rule", we are unable to make our announcement on Friday, October 15, 2010 as originally planned. Instead, we must wait until AFTER October 15th; therefore, we will send electronic notices on Saturday, October 16, 2010. I apologize for the misguided interpretation of the national rule -we are just as anxious to announce as you are to hear!

I seem to remember most of the acceptance release emails last year going out a little later in the afternoon, like around 3pm. Of course my memory at this point is completely unreliable for anything save pelvis, perineum, and lower extremity anatomy, which I am in the process of dumping to make room for neuro.

From what Tara told us, we will only hear from admissions if we are accepted. If you don't get an email, just assume your app is still under review. Then we get to wait for another two weeks.

Basically you could be accepted any time from now until March 1st, where you will either be rejected or informed you are on the waitlist. They do not tell you your ranking on the waitlist.

Keep in mind, that each release date they only accept a tiny percentage of the class. This means, the vast majority of the 400+ interviewers will find out on March 1st.

Yeah I'd honestly be surprised if four spots were released today. It's so early in the season guys, under no circumstances should you start panicking or anything if you don't get an email today.

Congrats. That first one is a major stress reliever. Now just focus on passing your classes (if you're still in school) and relaxing. Enjoy the happiness of getting into med school now, because at some point in the next four years you'll likely wonder why you were ever so happy about willingly getting yourself into this situation.

I was just wondering if anyone can clarify something... I interviewed at the Phoenix campus about 2 weeks ago(second round of interviews). If I didn't get an acceptance yesterday, does it mean I'm less competitive than the other candidates that were accepted and they need to compare me to a larger pool of candidates? or was it simply because they didn't get to review my application in the past round? I'm pretty worried about this...Has anyone in the past interviewed really early and ended up getting accepted a lot later?

I remember they made a presentation regarding this at the interview, but I don't remember the details to this.

No need to worry yet! I interviewed in early October last year, and was accepted in December. They only accept very few students each round.

And me and Salt are pretty much the most amazingly competitive, super awesome, all around funnest people in our class (though her david lee murphy sig makes me laugh. Who color codes stuff like that? Lol old people). I guess Phospho is too, kind of. I'm still a little jealous that her rock climbing skillz have surpassed mine, though. Wait, what were we talking about?

Pretty much our entire class is fun. Of the 92% of the class that fits into that category, our levels of awesomeness range from "pretty much" to "insanely freaking." Also Shep, can you be considered fun if your only social activities are SDN and ping pong? We did go to that allegedly straight bar one time, but we both failed to bring the awesomeness.

What really sticks out about the Phoenix class, even more so than the awesomeness and funness (if you can write funnest I can write funness), is the astounding aesthetic quality of the class of 2014. I cite both Salt and Phospho (on all three qualities of awesomeness, funitude, and tachycardia-inducing beauty). I feel like we should do a calendar or something to raise money for CUP. Or IHOP. Or tuition.

To be fair, this started with a digression, so I will end with a point. People of SDN: don't worry about not getting accepted thus far. Many of the best candidates in the class didn't get accepted until February and many others came off the wait list. Fret not. I didn't even know people got accepted in October. Much of your applicant pool haven't even submitted their primary application, much less their secondary application. Every cycle, your application gets reviewed again and you guys are in the best shape to get selected.

While this may have looked like a very public lovers' quarrel, SDNers, this was actually a carefully engineered dialogue to show you that you can either be extremely studious in medical school, like myself, or just frolic about all the time like Shep.

Nope, it's not a rejection. Pretty much like the letter says, your file will continue to be considered for interview invites. Any letters of update/interest/ or pubs will be added to your file, thus they'll be considered when the rest of your file is considered. I wouldn't immediately dash one off, but I would definitely plan on it at some point, maybe highlighting further volunteer/shadowing experiences or classes that you have finished that weren't on AMCAS or something like that. Don't give up!
