I don't need all of the spots, I just need one of them. But, there is definitely still reason to be hopeful, especially when the admissions office is anticipating the same wait list movement as last year.

It's just a very drawn-out time of waiting in the dark, wishing we had a peephole into the minds of the admissions committee members.

I feel you guys. I interviewed on the first day for both Tucson and Phoenix campuses. Every time there is an acceptance wave I have a burst of hope, only to be disappointed later. It is nice to feel that I am not alone.

After thorough investigation, I think DO is a better route. I've already been accepted to DO programs this year....I'm just really hoping for an MD spot.

Accepted at DMU and AZcom. I put my seat deposit down on DMU. In terms of MD programs, I interviewed at Univ of Wisconsin, UofAZ (tucson and phx), TCMC, and Medical College of Wisconsin. I have been rejected from Univ of WI and TCMC. I will hear from MCW tomorrow I am an Arizona Resident with midwestern roots.

I have been rejected everywhere but Tucson and Phoenix. Granted, I only applied to 5 schools, and I was really only hoping for an AZ spot all along, but I'm definitely ready for this month to be over with.

It's funny, because I actually only applied to UA because it seemed to have a lot in common with the DO approach, but also had research opportunities in my field. I wasn't even sure that I would go to my interview, and I certainly didn't expect to love it so much and be waiting with baited breath for each acceptance wave. But here I am!

I believe that it is May 15th is the deadline for those holding multiple acceptances, and that is when we'll see the biggest movement on the waitlist.

Dude, same boat. I have three manuscripts ready to go, and I'm first author on 2 of them. One of the reviewers for the last manuscript that I submitted basically asked me to perform a clinical trial and then resubmit. This stuff takes forever.

Just to put in my $.02 on the DO vs Caribbean MD thing, definitely a tough choice for people looking to go that route. On the plus a DO is not a foreign medical graduate, but I think it is arguable whether they are any less disadvantaged in obtaining an allopathic residency. On the minus is most DO programs are *very* expensive, whereas a Caribbean like Ross is actually less $$ than most OOS/private school tuitions. USMLE pass rates are comparable for the top Caribs vs DOs.

Back on topic for UA - hopefully none of us are at the point yet where we have to commit to one of those options. Going on previous years' numbers, UA (Tucson and Phoenix combined) ultimately offer acceptances (via straight acceptance or waitlist-to-acceptance) to around 40% of IS interviewed applicants. I guess there are two ways to look at that, glass half empty or glass half full... It can be depressing to think about not even being in the 60th percentile in the eyes of the adcom, but those of us IS still have a pretty decent statistical shot. I'm not holding my breath for UA-Phoenix tomorrow - just too small a number of acceptances - but at least we will all know where we stand at BOTH campuses within 30-35 days. The long, unpleasant, and unfair wait is almost over. 👍

Nothing against it, I just have my preferences.

After all, Bolivia is at a higher altitude than Chile, which more often than not, means that its coffee is better....and I give preference to places with bomb coffee.

Coffee "beans" and actually coffee berry seeds, and beans that grow at higher altitudes are denser and in turn, more robust than those grown at lower altitudes.

For similar reasons, beans that grow in South America (at high altitudes) tend to have a very rich cocoa-ey flavor, and beans that grow in say, Ethiopia (at lower altitudes), are more porous and in turn, take in much more of the berry flavor.

Coffee is one of the random things that I'm passionate about.

That's true for most schools. But for those holding acceptances to schools whose program starts in July (UA-PHX) the deadline is April 15th.

but then why does columban coffee have that tart flavor, while arabica coffee has that earthier flavor?

Most asian coffees, ie arabica or sumatra have a very earthy flavor largely in part to their low acidity, which is attributable to a number of things including soil microenvironment, growing elevation, and a relatively high density bean.

As for Colombian coffee, it's flavor can change alot depending on what roasting temp you decide to go with...usually the ones the have the tart taste have been roasted for too long. Alternatively, medium roast Colombian coffee tends to have more of a cocoa flavor, like most South American coffees.

For sure. However, the windowless lab is usually how I spend my time...not by choice though.

There are still several spots and a giant waitlist. It's bound to happen. I have a hard time seeing either of us getting rejected out-right....but then again, I have absolutely no idea as to how my application is doing in the applicant pool, just trying to be hopeful.

But, on a semi-related note, there's a pretty sick coffee market called Savaya in Tucson. They have coffee from all over the world, their own roaster, and they taught me everything I know about coffee tasting.

You should! I am hoping to do a 6 week tour of the western US and hit up Yos, Tetons, Zion (and the narrows!), Ranier, the Bugaboos etc (okay, so that last one is in Canada. But it is still awesome). This might be my last big chunk of vacation and I want to take advantage of it!
