Same boat. Oh well, there are worse places to study medicine than in Florida. 😀 I've been at UA six years now (undergrad and grad); that's too long anyway. Congrats to all those accepted, maybe I'll see you in residency in a few years!

I'm pretending that they're still typing out the acceptance emails (my last name is towards the end of the alphabet) and that it will continue until the end of the day. To those people that had talked to the admissions office earlier asking about when acceptances would be sent out, did Admissions say when the wait-listed/rejected people would be notified? I assume/hope that it will be sometime this week.

All of the acceptances were sent out around 10am, so sadly enough...there are no more acceptances for this wave. I am not sure when the waitlist is going to be sent out, but looking at previous years, I am going to say sometime between March 9-11.

Yikes. You've got some serious resolve! Someone in my Nov. interview group was also applying for her 3rd time.

On a similar tangent, aren't something like ~75 people accepted off the wait list? Additionally, the paperwork I have from Tucson claims like half the class are re-applicants.

Guess we can take some solace in statistics. Hope we're high on the wait list. 😀

I didn't think yesterday was going to happen, and I was already beginning to rework my personal statement, and beginning to consider retaking the MCAT (cringes). This is a dream come true for me, as it will be for the rest of you waiting out there...and bare in mind, there were 73 people accepted off of Tucson's waitlist last year, and this year anticipates even more movement. Don't lose site of your dreams, you can make them happen.

I had to get a Master's and work for a year afterwards to finally see things through. This whole process is monumentally competitive, and maybe some of you will have to work a bit more before things happen for you, but even if that turns out to be the case, don't be discouraged. You can become the physician that you want to be.

As I understand it, they have lots of movement because 1) they have two campus that have wait lists drawing from the same pool and 2) many of the out of state students they accept tend not to matriculate at U of A. I don't know if this year is supposed to have any more movement than previous years. It's all a crap shoot really.

i don't know about you, friend, but i don't have ill will nor anything negative to say to the people who did get accepted. i too didn't get accepted (yet), but there is nothing i am afraid of showing; no anger, no jealousy.

its frustrating not to be accepted, but give it time, do the best you can, and some day you'll get right 🙂

Let me repeat myself. As I said before, people who weren't accepted shouldn't display an err of nonchalance. First, it's annoying who are in the same boat. Second, it's extremely painful to be rejected by this med school, let alone any medical school. The ones who show optimism about rejection are either fooling themselves or accepting defeat.

If you weren't accepted, do what I'm doing. Be upset. Feel dejected. And in the meantime, do every possible thing you can to be a better applicant for next year's application cycle. Pain is not a bad thing. If you've fallen enough in your life, you become to see pain for what it can be worth: a driving force to success.

Again, congratulations to the ones who were accepted. And in the lottery that is the medical school application process, hope that next time you become the lucky one.

I was accepted yesterday, but I think I can still contribute to this considering I was so depressed the night before. Lokomat, I think you have to understand that people handle emotions differently. I feel that when people that are not yet accepted show an air of nonchalance, it is to comfort them selves (I admit I have done it). Honestly, I also believe that many of the people that apply to medical school have a truly compassionate personality and feel proud of their peers. Anger and dejection are valid responses to the stress of not being accepted, but I really dont feel like it is fair to say that everyone should behave similarly. Also, I would hardly describe medical school applications as a lottery.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck in getting into UA. Congratulations to those who have received acceptances (hope to see you all during second look!).

I know exactly what it feels like to have the acceptance days come and go, but I just wanted to tell all of you not to give up hope. They put A LOT of people on the waitlist. I think last year had somewhere around 125 people. I was #49 and got in around mid-May. I think for my class they ended up getting around #75.

Just to answer a few questions I had seen on the forum:

- "Why isn't the waitlist longer if they are accepting people at two campuses?"
The Phoenix and Tucson campuses are two separate med schools. The waitlists are not combined. Last year Tucson's waitlist was ranked so you were given a number if you were on it. Phoenix's waitlist was not ranked, so you do not know where you stand, just that you are on the list.

- "Why does the Tucson waitlist move so much (to around 70)? Is this typical of other schools?"
I'm not sure about other schools, but this application cycle is the second year that out-of-state student applications have been accepted at UACOM. Because of these students, the waitlist moves a lot as people reject their acceptances faster.

- "Does everyone accepted get the $1500 scholarship?"
No. When you get accepted you will have a scholarship application to fill out which is mostly based on need. A lot of people get a scholarship, but sometimes not as much as $1500.

If any of you have more questions about UACOM Tucson or Phoenix, the waitlist, the millions of things you have to fill out once you are accepted, housing in Tucson, etc. just let me know! Enjoy your senior year (or if you are out of school enjoy your last moments of free time until you give your life away to med school!!!!)
