If anyone here is a veteran do be advised a new law in AZ that offers automatic in state tuition. There is no need to wait 1 year to establish residency. House Bill 2410 was signed into law a month or so ago.

I was accepted this morning! (#65)
😀

Hey bud, I don't know if you remember me, but I met you at the PSIO graduation at U of A this summer. I was the guy in scrubs talking to my friend in line. At any rate, I told you not to worry! See you this fall.

Congrats!

I DO! haha I'm looking forward to seeing you and meeting everyone in the fall!

I just got accepted at Phoenix today at 2:17 pm today!!! I had all but given up hope and I was actually going to turn in my app for 2012 on Thursday....I am in shock....completely not expecting it at all.

Congratulations! That's awesome especially since it seems like it is your first for this past cycle. It's also good to see some additional movement on the waitlist. Thanks for posting and letting us know. 🙂

This is actually really surprising. I thought that everyone who was attending had to commit to PHX and withdraw from all other schools nearly 2 months ago. Do you all think this was just someone who decided to reapply or just not go at all?

Either way, worked out for you tjugs. Congrats!

UA Phx kids definitely had to commit 2 months ago, but we had the right to retain our positions on any wait lists. So my best guess is someone got off a list and committed to another school opening up a spot! Congrats tjugs! Join our FB group!

Hey all! I have been quite busy lately, but I will put up a waitlist graph today or tomorrow. It's going to look fantastic! Just so everyone knows, by 6/8/10 Tucson was at #65, so we are still slightly ahead of them and hopefully the waitlist will go beyond last years 73 (I'm looking at you, mantooth).

Congratulations everyone who has been accepted thus far! We should have a waitlisters party down in Tucson this fall. Also, congrats tjugs! Throw that 2012 application away. Or maybe burn it. You know, whatever will give you the most satisfaction!

Congrats and Welcome!! We have an awesome class!!😎

I just called and was told the waitlist is at #66. It took till 6/14 to get to 66 last year so hopefully we keep the movement going! 🙂

I have been a long time follower but this is my first post. I am 83 on the list. I had all but given up hope for this fall. I will be submitting for next year soon. Here is to the joys of med school. Good luck to all who are still on the wait list.

Congrats Tucsonans and future Tucsonans from your soon to be neighbor at the college of pharmacy. Maybe I will see y'all down at the UMC 🙂

Is this right, shouldn't the slope be steeper if it is a week ahead of last year?

I'm pretty sure it's correct. The lines are added by hand, though. So the person who did it last year may have been a bit more liberal and maybe my line is a little too conservative or maybe you would just eyeball the line differently than me. Either way, the purple triangles are not hand added, so you can always look to those.

It's also worth noting that although we're ahead of last year's waitlist, it is only by one slot and it is in a time when there isn't much movement.

My QTR was approved for this fall. It's $492/semester, which is a bit more than what the online calculator says.

What is QTR? Does it have something to do with your job at UA/tuition reduction? I think I remember reading something about that on this thread...

Qualified Tuition Reduction
You still have to pay taxes as if you were making all of the money that you save. You end up paying about 20% of Tuition. (I'm an employee too).
But its still a sweet deal!

Just called admissions. They are still at #66.

She said that students get 2 weeks to reply when they are offered a spot, but it will go down to 1 week soon. So maybe movement will pick up again after that?

hmm...if my parent is a faculty member and I'm elligible to be counted as dependent, could I use this, too? I thought I heard somewhere that you couldn't for med school, but I'm just curious.

I'm fairly sure that you can. I would call Chris at the Bursar's office to double-check, but it's definitely worth investigating.

Also, if you are a UA employee and you get laid off, you are eligible for a QTR for 1 year after that point.

Oh, I am SO looking into this.

In theory it will spike for one week as the policy changes causes deadlines to overlap, but then it will continue moving at the same pace.

lol which is no pace? if you don't mind, out of curiosity what school did you end up picking

You have to have been employed for 5 years consecutively prior to effective date of being laid off w/ satisfactory or better performance evaluation etc etc etc.

OK, I called again just now. Still at #66.

She said they were expecting more movement so don't give up. There are a few students that told her they would most likely deffer for whatever reason, but she doesn't know when.

Did you guys know that you don't have to put down a deposit when you accept? Very noncommittal.

Here's to hoping that they don't change their mind.

Hey Everybody,
If I'm not in by mid-July I will be going to Western COMP in Oregon, so...

If you know anyone who still needs housing I will be subletting my house. It's a 5 minute bike ride to the medschool. 2bd/1bth with a 1bd/1bth guest house and a big yard for a dog. $895/month.

If I make it off the waitlist I will be renting out the guest house if any of you are interested.

Sorry if its not cool to advertise on SDN. I'm getting pretty nervous about all the logistics (which I've been SERIOUSLY putting off).

If I make it off the waitlist I am very interested! My husband and I are looking for a house close to campus but we have two dogs that need a yard so it makes it a little more difficult to find a place. When would you be moving out?

Hi, I am looking for a place that sounds like your guest house...is your rent quote for everything or just for the guest house...can you private message me with more info and location? ...I plan to go to Tucson this weekend to look at places and would love to see yours!

any reason why oregon and not pomona? i'm just curious. is it a climate thing?

I thought it would be a fun place to live and it seems exciting to be a part of a new program. Mostly location though (my other options were WV and AZCOM which I was really not psyched about, locationwise)

Wait a minute, so I work full time at the U of A now and I'm applying for 2012 matriculation (and plan to keep working there full time until then). Does that mean I'm eligible? And do I have to keep working part time while in med school for the reduced tuition to continue?

from what i understand you have to be a benefits eligible emloyee
