March 1 group here: Rejected.
march 1 group here: Rejected.
Yep, just got the email 🙁
you're not alone brosef. i've been stonewalled too. This is an outrage. March 1 rejection here too. I live 10 minutes from there. My only cali interview was the UCR/UCLA program. I've been shut out by california, except for that one. wtf. They don't appreciate their own kind. I'm thinking of appealing but I don't know if it's worth it, and I'm too lazy. 😡
Rejected today, IS. No love from any Cali schools whatsoever. So so frustrating.

Same here man. Not even a single interview.
Recieving secondaries from all of them gave me false hope. But they took the money and ran with it. So be it. At least I got into some great schools anyways. Plus it gives me some added motivation in med school like I have a chip in my shoulder. Like the guy that got snubbed in the draft who has something to prove.
Not very many are at private practices in the community although some students do community clinics for outpatient pediatrics, ambulatory medicine or family medicine. Can anyone in their third/fourth year shed some light on UCI's clinical years. Are most rotations in UCI medical center, or are a large portion through private practices in the community?
Partial evaluations from attendings/residents and partially shelf exams. How are third year grades determined?
UCI doesn't scut. Our deans are very careful to be sure you are not sent for food/coffee/newspapers/errands, etc. We aren't woken up in the middle of the night to draw labs and we have minimal call (except when its useful for learning). This is what is generally considered 'scut' at malignant hospitals. In another thread, someone mentioned protection from "scut work," do you feel that UCI does a good job of teaching during the clinical years?
Just catching up on this board...congrats!!!!!
+1 to the rejected group.
The pizza dinner is definitely worth attending. The students did a great job at answering questions. I didn't count or anything, but I would say that there was probably the same number of med students as interviewees. I cannot compare it to the UCLA dinner (I couldn't make it). However, in comparison to the other dinners that I attended, I thought that it was well worth my time.
+1, I'd also recommend attending the pre-interview dinner. I would estimate there was a med student for every ~3 interviewees, and they had them spread out so that everyone could talk to a med student. I talked to 2 med students next to me while I was there and both were very friendly and full of info/advice. And it's a free dinner!! 🙂
Awesome. I RSVP'd but the guy didn't respond or anything... I'm assuming I'm still good to go.
Since I don't want to show up to the dinner without any questions.... I have a few questions for people to get me started. I figure I can ask any further details at the dinner.
what make UCI so stand out? A lot of schools I have researched have one special thing that makes them stand out to me, but UCI seems a bit average
Does UCI have any programs opportunities for clinical work during the first two years (like student run clinics or something)?

Make sure to bring this up in your interview![]()
I'm hoping to get more info here so that I can go into detail about how average the school appears to me.
Try checking out this website: http://www.meded.uci.edu/Students/
The things that pop out in my head about UCI are the imed initiative, bedside ultrasound training, strong medical programs for the underserved (MIAH, flying SAMs, etc...), the faculty are super receptive to our input on the curriculum, an ultra-friendly/rad student body, strong research opportunities (read: PIs are open to you working in their lab and there are funds to do so), and the ridiculously nice setting we get to study in. For me particularly, I love the amount of independent study time we have (I can study 10-12 hours a day and still not miss class) and the amount of time the school gives us off to study for Step 1 (it's a kind of a big deal.)
I forgot to mention the PRIME program.. Check it out via google, I can't do it justice in this quick post. 🙂
Thanks for this. All this information has quickly elevated UCI in my book (Particularly the Flying SAMs.... I'm kind of a sucker for anything with airplanes)

Don't worry so much about ranking medical schools. I was making that same mistake earlier in this application cycle. Until recently, I had a hard time picking which school I wanted to matriculate into. Sure it's important to look at each schools average boars score and match lists. However, be honest with yourself and determine where you will be comfortable and able to thrive. I know this sounds like ideal/mushy-gushy stuff, but it's good advice that I originally got, oddly enough, from my primary care doc during a visit. He told me to pick a school that has all the necessary resources, research and EC opportunities, and most importantly a location/community that will allow you to do very well in med school. Simple, but good advice.
I'd be happy to attend any of the schools I have interviewed at (no word from any though). I just want to have something to say when they ask "what makes UCI particularly interesting for you"
I have alot of personal reasons I want to attend, and all the education/professional reasons are all pretty generic. I'm just looking for something that UCI has that other schools can't match.
but like I said, I'll go anywhere; Beggers Can't Be Choosers
I'm so excited to have an interview here on March 16th. The pre-interview pizza party sounds very nice but I have not yet received any information about it! Do you know if i will closer to the date?
I would love to have the chance to meet with current med-students before interviewing...
(esp if you DIDN'T attend UCI for undergrad)
when you log into the online app, what does it say your class level is?
mine says School: School of Medicine, Class Level: Senior. 😕😕
i just dont want to be confused as a senior & be given lowest priority for grad housing..
anyone else get an email from the financial aid office after submitting their FAFSA?
I'm surprised that they are requesting my parents and my tax return info, since I'm still waitlisted...
So I am guessing there isn't going to be any waitlist movement before revisit day, huh? Damn the things I would do to get off this waitlist right now!!! :/
Hello!
I interviewed just couple weeks ago on Feb 24. I'm still waiting for my decision but my work in research just got submitted to a journal for publication. Is this a good time to send the update or should I wait for the decision?
Also anybody know when does the UCI adcom meet?
thanks!
