When I interviewed there last week they gave us the impression that there were still about ~100 offers yet to go out, and that they were interviewing well into April. So I think an acceptance is definitely possible, but probably not as likely as if you had interviewed months ago.question: I was invited to interview on April 7th. Will I be interviewing for an acceptance or for a waitlist that late in the cycle? Thank you!
Did my undergrad at UCSD and now finishing my master's here. Nothing wrong with San Diego, but the school itself does take a toll on you.
Do you mind commenting on this a bit more? Are people not happy at UCSD? I kind of got the vibe that though they aren't miserable they aren't happy either. You aren't the first person who has told me the school takes a toll on your soul. Why is this? This is Much different from the other lifestyle schools I've been accepted at Hawaii/Miami/UCLA everyone seems extremely happy/enthusiastic. Anyone else have any other comments about the school and area vs. general happiness/satisfaction
I'm an MS1 at UCSD so I thought I'd jump in. I can't comment for undergrads or grad students, but I will speak for the med students. UCSD used to have a stigma of being ridiculously competitive and having pretty unhappy students. However, since the new administration came around 6 or 7 years ago, things have done a 180! I can honestly say that my quality of life probably better than it ever has been. My classmates are awesome. The administration is simply incredible; they consistently go above and beyond to aid in our learning and make our lives as low-stress and enjoyable as possible. I love the new curriculum--it fits my learning style perfectly and I am thriving because of it. Med school is hard. I study a whole lot. But, it doesn't consume me nearly as much as I expected. I can honestly say that I still have a life! I go hiking quite regularly, I'm really involved in a few on-campus activities, and a few off-campus ones (all these things totaling about 12-15 hours each wek), as well.
Are there unhappy people at UCSD? A few. But, you'll find those anywhere. I'd say, on the whole, my classmates love the lifestyles they've created for themselves and are extremely happy to be at UCSD SOM.

hey matcha, i glanced at your profile and felt like we have a lot in common -- i totally wish i'd busted my butt harder in college, i'm east asian and female, and i'm also in the admissible pool w/ you. i'm actually holding an acceptance to another school i really loved (Loyola) and would be more than happy to go there, but San Diego's my hometown, UCSD is soooo much cheaper, and ... yeah, all things considered, i'd probably matriculate at UCSD if they accepted me 🙂
that's digressing, though. i just wanted to say i love your attitude toward it all, and wanted to wish you luck. hope we end up at UCSD next year!
Thank you for your perspective. I'm glad to hear that the administration really supports the students. Does UCSD provide library printing privileges (unlimited printing) to its medical students?

I cannot believe you got put in the admissible pool with a phd and an awesome MCAT!!!
Did anyone hear anything today? What's the turn around time for UCSD typically? 4-6 weeks?
At my interview, they said 1.5-2 weeks. They actually said they would highly likely be sending notices out on this day.
When did you interview? I'm on my 4th week post interview and still waiting.
Lol honestly if it's a rejection that's fine but it would be nice to be able to start planning housing, research opportunities, some other things at my second choice.
Interviewed on March 10th. Just got rejected since my previous post 🙁 . This was definitely my top choice...
38 MCAT, 3.99 GPA

Does anyone know if UCSD does AOA? I know some schools don't participate
@DoktaThunda, I remember meeting you on interview day because I remember that you were from Canada. We rode on the bus together to one of the interviews. Sorry to hear about UCSD, but I am sure you will be killin' it somewhere else. Take it easy, dude.

Thanks man! I hope everything goes well for you.
OMG is second look in april? Hope I hear something, anything, before then.
yep, second look is coming up in just two weeks! for those of you on the fence about whether or not to attend--i strongly suggest you do! my classmates are working hard to put together a great time to really see what med school at ucsd is all about.
good luck, adore! i know as well as anyone that it's not over til it's over!
@ucsducsd, any chance of setting up a surf session with some current med students during second look? I know one of the things is going to be a beach party, and that there is going to be rock climbing and hiking things, but can you get me in touch with some med students that like to surf so we can setup something?
I'm in the unranked acceptable pool.
Does anyone know if they accept update letters, letters of intent, or more letters of recommendations after the interview?
I really want to go to UCSD
Has anyone heard back about admissions recently? I thought that the committee met weekly, but things have been quiet in terms of decisions.
I interviewed yesterday and was told that I would hear back next Tuesday. I know there was a post a few weeks ago where the applicant heard back only one week post interview (it wasn't a good result).
Either way, for me, it will be too late to attend second look so if it takes longer than that there is really no loss. I hope some of you who have been waiting a while hear back soon so you may attend second look if you want to.
Edit: Accepted 4/7/11
