Received this email from Brian today:

Dear Applicant to the UCSD School of Medicine:

I am writing to you to determine whether or not you still have an interest in attending the UCSD School of Medicine.

Note that this e-mail is NOT an offer of acceptance, but rather an informal poll to assist us in narrowing down our pool of qualified candidates that were placed in our “Acceptable Pool” after the interview. Previous years have taught us that many of you are holding acceptances from other schools and would turn down an offer from UCSD. Your response to this e-mail will save us time when we do extend more offers in the coming weeks by eliminating those of you who are no longer considering UCSD.

What would make it simplest for us is if you edit the subject line to your response e-mail, leaving either:

Are you still interested in the UCSD School of Medicine? YES (meaning you wish to remain under consideration)

or

Are you still interested in the UCSD School of Medicine? NO (meaning you want to withdraw your name from consideration)

We would appreciate a response prior to Friday, April 22, 2011.

Please note that this e-mail is not meant to prompt applicants to send more information - we are not looking for anything more than a YES or NO answer. Updates on grades and activities, honors and awards, publications and presentations are not necessary…and I definitely do not recommend that you solicit any additional recommendation letters. In fact, things that are sent in will not be considered in our evaluation of your application. The best thing you can do at this point is to simply respond to this e-mail saying that you are indeed still interested, then try to be patient.

I do not anticipate any acceptance offers to be made to applicants in the Acceptable Pool until after May 15.

Yes indeedy, everyone floating in the acceptable pool received that today. I was surprised they don't want updates. ::shrugs::

Accepted today! Sad I missed second look, could anyone tell me their impressions of the school post second-look? Thank you!
Let's see, it was sunny, the students were super nice, the admits were interesting and friendly, and the new med facilities look like they are going to be completely awesome. I was surprised by the quality of the admits in that almost everyone had done something stellar and unique in their life up to this point. At other second looks I have been on, there is always a handful of admits that are creepy and make you think that they must have somehow slipped through the cracks into admission. Not my experience at UCSD.

Sounds great! About how many people showed up for the revisit day? More/less than you expected?

I am really bad at guessing numbers because some people came and went all weekend, but I would say there were more folks at UCSD 2nd look than at other 2nd looks I have been to. I think this has mainly to do with most admits being more than willing to make the journey to SD for the weekend. In fact, I spend most of the second day playing hookey in order to catch up on some surfing at Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma. I can't say I did that in St. Louis, Philly, etc. at other 2nd looks😀

Declined my acceptance. Hope it goes to someone here!
Good luck everyone :luck:

Is it reasonable to ask for my rank in the waitlist or should I just wait and see?

UCSD's waitlist is unranked, so you wont get any more information from them on your place in it. Just gotta wait it out like the rest of us. Good luck :xf:

Yes: 250-300.

Yeah, when I talked to Brian he said ~300 this year. The tricky part is how many people will come off the waitlist, and that's the number that he said is hard to predict. A couple years ago 80/300 have come off the waitlist, but sometimes its 30 or less. Hoping a ton of people decide to go elsewhere this year and they take 100 ppl off the list haha.

This thread has been remarkably silent, does anyone expect any movement here tomorrow or do you think we'll need to wait for a bit for a response?

@rafflecopter
The dean of admissions mentioned that there will be no movement off the waiting list until on/after may 15. Time to play the waiting game!

Brian Zeglen said that no one will hear anything until Wednesday **at the earliest**.

I let go of my acceptance a week or so ago. I hope it went to one of you guys. Good Luck

i took a look at last year's thread, and it seems that most waitlist activity happened mid-june...

Hi everyone-

Current MS1 at UCSD here, just wanted to wish everyone luck who is on the wait list and tell you to hang in there!

I'm also happy to answer questions, here or via message.

Haven't heard a thing =\, still got fingers crossed though.

Hopefully we'll hear something on Friday? I think it was around the same time last year that people were receiving emails from admissions.

The wait is really unbearable. 🙁

Hello fellow waitlisters,

I just spoke with Brian Zeglan a few minutes ago and he was really friendly and candid about where UCSD is in their waitlist progress. It sounds like some offers have gone out already and that they are in the process of figuring out how many are accepting and declining those offers. He gave me a rough estimate of ~20-25 more offers of acceptance going out this year. The acceptable pool is still ~250 people and they are going to be trimming it down later this week or next week, after which we will either be rejected or continue to remain on the waitlist. It sounded like he anticipated a few more acceptances to go out with the trim.

I hope this information is helpful, good luck to everyone! :xf:

Every time my phone rings I get excited and hope for an 858 area code, and every night when I get home from work the first thing I do is check my email expecting the rejection letter to be there!

Believe me, I know what you mean. As soon as I wake up each morning, I start checking my email and this thread and continue to do so literally every 15 minutes hoping to get something. Anything.

I can't even focus on studying for my finals. 🙁

Accepted off the waitlist on 6/7 by email. Very excited to be heading to La Jolla in the fall! Best of luck to everyone else waiting

Congrats to all recently accepted! I feel like I'm nearly drowning in the acceptable pool at this point. Hope there are still open spots for us still waiting.....

Congratulations Lurkster! Good to know there is movement that we know about.

And 9pm email acceptances? Wow. They must be having long work days during this time of the year. But it's terrible if they're sending out rejections on Fridays...ruin people's weekend with sad news.

Judging by my empty inbox and the lack of activity here I'm guessing that the dreaded trim must not have materialized yet... Perhaps next week?

In the meantime keep hope alive! 👍

Thanks for the congratulations everyone. Really looking forward to the fall. Heading all the way from Boston, can't wait to get away from this horrible dreary weather.

Are you originally from California or coming for the first time?

I usually just read through SDN and never post, but it's so quiet in here, that I decided to post and see if anyone's got any updates yet from Brian. I've been in the acceptable pools list since January, just curious if anyone from the acceptable pool's list has been offered a spot as of late. I tried calling the office a week ago, but got Brian's answering machine.
