1. 45 are filled, 35 open.

2. File updates are always welcome until the committee has made an admit/wait decision.

3. Letters of interest are of little to no value. Unfortunately the are often sent to several schools by applicants, when we do find this out (the schools) it speaks to the integrity of the applicant and becomes harmful to them.

4. Eligible for Interview Selections - There are only two ways you can go from here: you get a call for an interview (chances EFI to Interview Scheduled) or you dont get a call by the ?3rd? week of February when we should be done with invitations. If you dont get the call, you will get an email letting you know that we were unable to include you in an interview group this year. About all that you can do while in EFI status is evaluate your application for weaknesses and submit meaningful updates (volunteering, term GRADE SHEETS (via EMAIL) ---- NOT OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS.

It looks like we will end with about 3350 total verified applicants; we do intend to interview ~325-350.

Thank you REL for clearing things up. We all wish you well.

thank you so much for the info.

this is why people have gravitated toward UCF.

whether or not i end up there. I can say nothing but good things about UCF

Wow now I'm a bit scared to hear what you have to say when you call us next week because that means what on average that 4 were accepted from one of the last 2 Dec. interview groups and 5 from the other if I'm guessing correctly that on average there are about 4-5 accepted from each interview date. Which means I either have a 1 in 3 chance of getting in or a 2 in 3 chance I am waitlisted or rejected. Soooooooooooooooooooo :scared::scared::scared:

Actually we have accepted 7 the last two times, and will continue to do that through the next five acceptance meetings.

REL,

Is the committee accepting students off the wait list yet? Are any of those 7 for the next 5 adcom meetings people who are on the wait list? How is the situation looking for people who are in the bottom half of the upper third?

Thanks again for all of your help and for making things perfectly clear. I truly thank you!

Remember that technically we do not have a "wait" list, but those at the top of the list, regardless of recently interviewed, may be offered acceptance. My long term prediction is at those in the upper 1/3 will be in a strong position to receive an offer probaby get into the upper middle third also. Last year we almost got to the middle third and this year we are filling 20 more seats, but intend to interview the same number as last year.

Hi everyone/REL, sorry to hijack your thread but Ill be applying next cycle and I wanted to know whether or not its absolutely necessary to have a LOR from a MD or DO? I have very specific letters and I could easily obtain a letter from a doctor, however, I feel that they would be more generic and less personal. So is it absolutely necessary to have a letter from a MD or DO, will it hurt my chances if I dont have one?

Thanks everyone, and best of luck to everyone this cycle!!! GO UCF!!!

That is absolutely wonderful news to me! Thanks again REL for your constant help.

When I applied I sent in no MD or DO letter. Requirement as I understood it was

3 professor letters and 2 character letters. The 3 professor letters should include the 2 science letters, 1 non sci. If its been a while and you did something like grad school then 3 sci letters is fine.

2 character letters can be from people like job supervisors, peers, research PIs, volunteer coordinators, etc. etc. etc.
Yea, I believe 1 character letter can be from a friend.

Has anyone else been following the news on UCF COM's website? Their more recent news post is so awesome: http://www.med.ucf.edu/news/news/2011/january/010711_3/ . I can not resist my enthusiasm for this school! Moreover, I live in Wisconsin; it feels like -5 degrees Fahrenheit right now, and tomorrow in Orlando there is a high of 63 degrees Fahrenheit 👍.

I love your enthusiasm! Ucf is awesome! Sorry about the cold weather its gorgeous in florida today! I dont know how u can handle that kind of cold

Hello REL, thanks so much for your great information. I have another question: about how many of the people that have been placed on the eligible for interview status are actually interviewed?

I recieved complete status on my secondary 12/26/10. My status is still "File COmplete - READY FOR REVIEW". Since Rel has said that last interview invites go out 3rd of Feb, I am concerned, because I have not been updated to the Eligible For Interview Status yet. 🙁

We will probably complete interview invitations the 3rd WEEK of February.

REL- can we expect to receive updates on our position in the waitlist every 6-8 weeks or should we call in for those updates? And thanks for all your help as usual, it's appreciated!! 🙂

I should be sending updates out over this coming long weekend.

Hey REL, probably a dumb question, but is there a particular day of the week that the adcom meets to give out interviews?

Heh, nerves. I am now eligible for interview. Hopefully I will recieve one. 🙂. Can't wait to meet with the admissions members and staff.

Hi Rel,

I have a general question, do you guys have the one year deferment option? Thanks

got the call from REL today as well

i interviewed on 12/10.
waitlisted in upper half of upper third 😀

still very excited. hope that the list moves quickly. it would be very difficult for me to turn down UCF - i rate them highly. good luck to all applying/waiting.

Just interviewed there and I was really impressed with the school. They go out of their way to make sure that the students have a great place to learn.

Also, REL telling us about how the admissions process works was very helpful. I wish more schools would do that. BTW, he said 53 spots have been filled as of Friday.

I received a post-interview update from REL today via email. I'm still in the top 1/6 of the "waitlist." I was originally informed of this same status back in October. I have my fingers crossed for good news sometime soon! :xf::xf:

My status online has been on AORTA eligible for interview since 9/29. Since its been this long im guessing I wont get an interview date. Is this a correct assertion?

Thanks dudette. I hope you get in! Orlando is an amazing city, not to big but not to small, and UCF is an ever growing institution in every aspect. Lake Nona is looking good, we got a ranked basketball and football team, and undergrad, I believe we are in the top 3 (don't quote me) for number of students. Also on main campus we just got indoor soccer! lol Its a great school!

Yeah it was an email. REL called the first time in October but since then I've gotten email updates every month. I think it's fair to say you'll likely hear an update by mid to late Feb. :luck::luck:
Ok. sorry. Yeah I only think of things in terms up upper 1/3, middle 1/3, lower 1/3.

Makes sense.

So it was an email then? Not a call? Or did he do both? Just curious. I just got the post interview call Friday so I'm assuming middle of Feb. to end of Feb before I get the next update.

Thanks buddy. 🙂.

you've got it gujudoc.
you're gonna get in.

now i just need an interview.
I think being in AORTA status so long is going to make me have a nervous tic when i do the circulatory system in anatomy.

but I have to keep the faith that an invite is just around the corner.

Thank you REL for keeping your word about the updates! I can't wait to hear back with good news hopefully in May when the waitlist starts moving 😉

Yay! I spoke with REL on the phone today. I interview at UCF February 4th!

Thanks for everything Mr. Larkin!

Wow congrats and good luck! I know you've been wanting this interview and you deserve it!!

Thanks for everything Mr. Larkin!

Congrats!

Out of curiosity, how long were you in the "Eligible for Interview" status?

Wow, how did you get rejected from UPitt and UPenn??? I don't get it with a profile like yours. Good luck at all your interviews, all of them not just UCF.

I will vouch that UCF was an amazing school and I was impressed greatly by what I saw there. Now let me see if they love me as much as I loved them. I'm kinda :scared: of what will happen tomorrow or day after.

at least finally got a non slow day tomorrow. So that will help reduce the anxiety since I'll be busy like I haven't been in a longggggggggg while.

Haha yea if you're looking for the in-state advantage, don't live in Pennsylvania.

Thanks, and from one Indian applicant to another, good luck to you too!

I got completed 7/19/10, was EFI about 10 days later. But got new MCAT scores like 9/14/10. Got nterview invite 11/24/10 for Dec. 13th, 2010.

I think it comes down to two months since they probably were waiting for new mcat scores too even though they put me in EFI based on previous score.

If they weren't really waiting for it then its like 4 months.

Its pretty variable. Good luck.

jlquick,

Good luck with your interview. You will love the tour of the hospital and facilities. I won't ruin the surprise for you. But myself and everyone else I've talked to all came blown away by the amazingness of it all.

Every day I am more impressed with UCF COM and the helpfulness of Mr. Larkin. I can't wait to visit UCF and confirm what you have been saying about the school and the facilities! I can't imagine a better place to study medicine than this.

I interviewed at both and I must say, FIU is a great school without a doubt; however, in my opinion, UCF wins hands-down 😀

I was impressed with everything: Dean German's inspirational speech, the tours of Celebration hospital, the amazing facilities (gym, cafeteria, ANATOMY LAB, student conference room with kitchen, pool table, booths, giant tv), the lunch (yum haha), the students, the responsiveness of the admissions committee (thank you REL!!), Orlando > Miami (just my opinion) and the curriculum and program put together make this school so wonderful.

So what did u think of UCF vs. FIU? What were ur thoughts on the two? If u don't want to tell on here u can PM me. I'm just curious how u think the two compare.
I sent you a pm. Let's just say FIU could learn some things from UCF when it comes to impressing their applicants.

I definitely agree with u about the last paragraph but was just curious how the two compare against each other. I wish this school would love us back when the so called waitlist movement moves. 🙂

Basically... it was a comparison. Everything I said I liked about UCF was something that FIU didn't match up against. Their facilities were not comparable to UCF's (connected to undergrad campus, but I do recognize that they said they are constructing new buildings it will just take time), the dean at FIU did not show up at our interview to talk about the school, no lunch served (I was starving by the time I got out and ran to the nearest restaurant ), they did not give us a tour of the hospital (just a slideshow of the major Miami hospitals), the handful of students I did encounter were very nice and friendly but admitted that they had just gotten back from partying at South Beach the night before and were a little hungover (I mean, you just don't tell interviewees that!). They are very slow at getting decisions back to you (whereas UCF is very organized and let's you know within 3 weeks AND gives you updates every 6-8 weeks on your waitlist position which I think is very considerate).

I do acknowledge that their administrators were very nice and enthusiastic about the school and that their NeighborhoodHELP program is a positive point in their curriculum, but these two factors against the rest would not sell the school to me when put up against UCF.

I also liked UCF more than FIU. But in FIU's defense, on my interview day we were served lunch and got a speech from the Dean. So it may have just been unforeseen circumstances on your day. And let's be honest, does it really affect you if the students told you they partied the night before in South Beach? I mean every school I've gone to has students who say that. At least it shows that they are well-rounded and not robots. I don't want boring classmates. Just my two cents.

Hmm that's weird then... I guess they could have clarified if it was unforeseen circumstance. By no means was I bashing FIU, I was just further clarifying my personal reasons for preferring UCF. The lunch thing wasn't that big of a deal, just something I noticed. Also, I do agree with your statement. Who doesn't want well-rounded, fun-loving students? I just thought it was a little unprofessional to mention that in our two-minute conversation up the elevator when I asked what the student liked about the school. Oh well, everyone has their own opinions.

Faculty at fiu were great but i personally did not like the interviewmformat..... Also no tour of anatomy labs, no speech from the dean, no hospital tour for me either.... I have found their admission process to be more confusing and less open as well....ucf on the contrary has been very open throughout the admission process and the interview was very insightful with toirs of everyhing and clear explanations of the entire admssion process....

Anyone else excited about ucf's second look day!?

Congrats on being accepted at UCF. I completely agree with you. I don't think the FIU tour showed us a single classroom, let alone the anatomy lab. Of course, that may be what second look is for.
