I really enjoyed interviewing at UCF. Mr. Larkin and the faculty we met were extremely transparent answering questions about UCF as well as other schools. As for the interviews specifically, RELAX!!!! The interviewers were genuinely interested in getting to know the people they spoke to and to establish a meaningful discourse.

I feel like no matter how much people say 'don't stress' that it is almost impossible not to just a little, but I think anyone who goes through it there will leave with a refreshed outlook on the medical admissions process.

With UCF looking over the pool of applicants to invite for interview each week, I assume that there is a steady supply of new applicants to review. Does this mean that if we are EFI for multiple weeks that we are being out-selected by new applicants each week? Or are later applicants being reviewed separately somehow?

I imagine it's very difficult to look at ~600 applications each week and decide on a few to invite, especially when that 600 is increasing every week.

I remembered Rel said that the interviewers would not be on the admission committee. The interviewers would only give a written review of the interviwee.

Am I right? Please clarify it for me. Thanks.

Yes, I believe that is correct.

Yep. When I interviewed last cycle, I remember that he mentioned this fact. Good luck!

Does anyone know if the faculty interviews are open or closed file?

Have any in-state applicants received an interview invite or interviewed with a sub-30 MCAT?

Thanks for any info!

Yeah, so far 9 interviewees in the first four groups meet the answer to your inquiry. As you may know there is much more to an applicant than scores and GPA's, but you have to read the entire file.

UCF is a really inovative program. They treat you as a whole person, not just your scores.

Love it.

My friend (IS) interviewed there a couple of weeks ago and has a 28 or 29.

My MCAT is slightly higher and I am :xf: to get my interview (been on AORTA for a few weeks). But I am OOS.
UCF is not number crazy. It's one of the few schools who will evaluate you properly; as a person opposed to just a #.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

My application has been complete since Sept 28. I am really hoping to pass the initial screening. I am so nervous!
Good luck to all who have already interviewed and those who are still waiting to receive an interview invite. I hope I can join this group very soon.

That is great news! I love this school and being from Florida, I'd love to stay in-state. I am well rounded with different life experiences, so I hope that helps my case. Thank you for the great info! 😀

Thanks for the info everyone. This thread really keeps my hope alive.

Hey Ya'll, ( I know, I'm from the South)

Practical question hear. Is there a way on AMCAS to have them email your LoR to the given UCFCOM email for updating our applications, or will UCFCOM take a new letter from AMCAS via just adding a new letter to the school through AMCAS and having it sent like all the other LoR's? I just received a killer LoR from a physician and would like to see it make it into my file, but I don't have it on file to email directly to AORTA.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how often the committee meets to review applications? (Twice a week, once a week, once every two weeks?)

Thanks!

I've been worrying about this secondary for a while and am so close to submitting but for one thing: I have absolutely nothing to add in all the "Optional" categories. I know they're not necessary, but I'm worried that I'll look pathetic if everyone else has had something to put in one or more of the boxes. My primary app, my description of my activities to date (I'm on a year off, so there's not as much as I would have had were I back in school), and my long essay are so thorough that to say anything else would just be repetition or unnecessary.

Can anyone reassure me, or should I really be grasping for things to say?

Let me assure you that if you did a thorough job with your AMCAS application that you should leave the optional areas blank. This school receives many applications and is not interested in reading the same thing, though maybe written differently, twice. They really do mean that you should leave it blank. Maybe some insights about the school and your desires in Q10 would be a good idea if there are any parallels. I hope that this helps.

I couldn't have asked for anything more authoritative (and helpful) than that. Thank you so much.

Hey everyone,

For those of you who have interviewed or received an interview, did you go through AORTA status beforehand? Or is this a bad sign that they have decided to not give me an interview at this time? If it's the latter, I am pretty disappointed. I'm sure one of my sections in the MCAT made them look the other way 🙁.

yayyy status update today...eligible for interview selection!

EFI today as well. Wisconsin boy really hoping UCF works out! Top two schools for me🙂

Can't wait!! 2 more days. Hoping to get good news from REL next week. :xf:

Soooooo Happy!!!!! 😀😀😀

Interview Invite. Complete for only a little over one week. To everyone out there, do not lose hope, even if you go into AORTA status for some time.

GL everyone!

IS, 28S, 3.93 sGPA, 3.95 aoGPA

GL everyone! If anyone is interviewing 11/29 let me know 🙂

Congratulations. Still patiently, hopefully waiting over here for one.

🙁

Got call from REL this morning. Waitting list. lower 3rd, I believe this equals rejection. Feel really sad.

Hey guys,
I'm interviewing here in a few weeks and I'm trying to find a place to stay for the night. For those of you who have already been, can anyone recommend a hotel somewhere near the school? I'm not really familiar with the Orlando area, but I'll be driving my car, so the less complicated the route, the better. If anyone else is interviewing on Nov 19 and wants a ride from somewhere in my vicinity on the morning of, PM me. Otherwise, Thanks!

I second this. Got same news today. Super saddening as I really enjoyed my interview day here.

that makes 3 of us. Heard from REL and i'm waitlisted in the lower third. Although some movement does happen, my take from the phone call is that being in the lower third waitlist is essentially the kiss of death. Im pretty bummed considering this was my first choice, but s**t happens, gotta move on

There are suggestions in REL's email but I stayed at the Orlando Airport Marriott and it was great. The UCF rate was ~$89 and my TV wasn't working so they bumped it down to $49. Having the pool and free computer access was nice. I would definitely recommend it.

BUT... if you are able, you should stay with students to get a better sense for the school!

I also interviewed on the first day too. I was the one with the brace on my leg. REL called me and told me I was in the top half of the top third. UCF is my number one in FL, so i'm crossing my fingers for another call in a few weeks!

I interviewed on the first day also. Mr. Larkin said I was in the middle of the middle. Really empowering program/faculty/network. I think it will take some luck to get an offer from my position.

I was the tall guy from UCF who commended you on your ploy for sympathy (In jest, of course 😉

How has the season treated you thus far otherwise?

The wrestling season? I've been seeing sports med docs and athletic trainers for the past month and a half now. Just last week I was cleared to start doing limited things in practice. Hopefully by next week I will be back near 100%. Things are going well though. The knee definitely feels more stable.

Haha, I meant the interview season, but thats good your leg is feelin better.

lol, yea I wasn't sure. Interviews are going good, too. I've been accepted to a couple schools, still waiting to hear back from a few, and I have another one on Monday. Everything going good with you?

Waitlisted yesterday-- top third. I'm hopeful, though! :xf:

When I interviewed last week, REL said it was too early to tell what being in the bottom third means. If all of the rest of the interviews do not go well, everyone else could fall below you and essentially you would be pushed to the top over time. Keep your spirits up!

Hey, does anyone know how many interviews are left for this cycle? Also, would a pre-interview LOI make any difference? Still holding out for UCF. :xf:Congratulations to all that have gotten interviews and good luck to you guys 🙂

Hey if anyone is interviewing here on Nov. 29th (Monday) let me know if you want to split a room with me from Sunday night to Monday morning. I am getting a room at the Embassy Suites which is right next to all the ones REL advised. PM me if you want, since the Embassy Suites are suites, basically there is a pull out bed in the couch or we can get a double and still have the living room side open. Only girls inquire, thx!
