Application Held

Complete 7/25. 3.93/36.

Should I look at this as a nicer-name rejection? Earlier on this thread, people w/ stats more impressive than mine got straight up rejected, so is it a good sign for the rest of my schools that there's SOMETHING about me they like enough to keep around?

As was said. This really stings 🙁

Thanks man, but you know it is a crapshoot game out there, and you are one of those great applicants yourself! 😀 I got the email from Northwestern on Friday and sent the secondary yesterday. I just had to play a little with some essays I already had, so I did not have to spent too much time with the application itself.

The secondary that is killing me is Duke's. I am not finding the motivation and I really do not like the school that much anyway... I know it is awesome, but I spent a couple of summers there while in high school and just did not feel it......I am not trying very hard for that one, to be honest.

Haha, we are alike in many ways. I've been stuck on Duke's essay as well. I'm also not super excited about the school. I'm not excited about Durham. I want to work hard and play hard. There aren't many better cities than Chicago. I finished Northwestern today and submitted. They really were not bad. I hope to end up in Chicago one way or another.

Hey,

I think it means something that we weren't outright rejected🙂 However, it is probably wise to temper ones hopes. I would send them an update letter around November with any new activities or accomplishments. In addition, I plan on letting them know how much I still love pritzker. By then I hope to have had a few interviews so I can comment on despite having attended other wonderful schools, I would still love a chance to attend pritzker. It's worth a shot😀

Secondary received: 6/30
Secondary completed: 7/27
Interview invite: 7/28

I like that quick turn-around!

Your application has been placed on hold for further review later in the application process. In the meantime we encourage you to keep us informed by email of new academic and extracurricular accomplishments.

bummer.

EDIT: stats 3.83 cGPA 39P MCAT

I guess I just didn't "fit" UChicago.

Wow, what were your stats? Lol congratulations! I just submitted my secondary, waiting for my rejection email, haha. 😀

Hey all!

Congrats to all those with interviews and sorry for the ones that didn't snag one this time. Bare in mind that it is in no way a reflection of you as a person even if this whole process can seem dehumanizing at times.

To those of you with interviews: when you try to pick your date, are the only dates offered in september or does the season run later? I'm flying from Montreal, which is already ridiculously expensive and if I could save a few bucks by interviewing later in the season, I wouldn't complain. Will more dates become available soon?

Best,
Sam

Well thank you! And best of luck to you too.

I really didn't think I had much of a shot, either - one of my big books listed U Chicago as having ~7000 applicants.

I'm feeling vague, so I'll just say >35, >3.95. As others have noted, I don't think the numbers were that huge with Chicago.

Sam, I wondered the same thing. I went ahead with Sept. 7th. I would think it an appropriate question for a phone call to admissions. I'm sure they'll let you be later if that's what you'd prefer.

I got an interview just four days after completing my application. I have a 3.85 GPA and a measly 31 MCAT (coming from an Ivy, though).

Go figure...

when was your application moved to screen?

No trend, and coming from an Ivy does not seem to be making a difference. I really have no clue how Chicago is going about their invites.. This is definitely going to be a humbling experience for all of us..😕

Haha, if you're applying to Duke you could put that in your essay.

I know!! But I gave that secondary up. I was just not feeling it, plus I have always disliked Durham....With 20 other apps, I decided I was going to save myself the money and the misery... 😀

Uuuuuugh I sent my application in about 10 days ago and still no reply. My numbers aren't stellar at all, but hopefully they at least have me in some imaginary "maybe" pile. Keeping those fingers crossed.....

I'm with ya; I've been complete for over 2 weeks and still no word...Eeeep.

The red HOLD icon is lit saying the application is on hold for my mcat and I took 6/17. Anyone else having this problem? I submitted the secondary 7/26.

You are better off not going there. Frankly it was unpleasant....

If you get in - god help you. I guess the best bet is to just keep your head down, talk to no one, and you will be a star. They like folks who follow the leader, keep to the company line, and above all sing the praises of Pritzker at all times. Find outside friends, complain to them, and to everyone else say how lovely life is. I will leave the positive spin to others, I find these threads to be one sided.

As someone who had the choice between Feinberg, Pritzker, and many other good schools and still choose Pritzker I feel somewhat compelled to explain my decision.

Firstly I didn't go into this process clueless: I had been in the Chicagoland area for 4 years and knew both Streeterville and Hyde Park, as well as their reputations, very well. Yes Streeterville is a fantastic area, that is very safe. And yes Hyde Park and U Chicago are a bit of an oasis, in that the surrounding areas aren't the best places in Chicago to be.

That being said, when I visited the hospitals I didn't find Pritzker to be a horse dying on its last legs, at all. I found the attendings and faculty very friendly, and the students very happy. Financially speaking, suffice to say that I was offered significantly more scholarship by Pritzker than my any other school.

And most importantly for me, I found Pritzker to be a place with not only strong academics, but a very strong social mission. It's one thing to take a few pro bono cases a year. It's a completely different thing to be situated in a difficult neighborhood and deal with difficult cases every day. I wanted to study medicine in a place where I felt like I would be making a difference where it really mattered most. And I wanted to learn in a place that could give me a diverse array of experiences, from the best to the worst. Because in medicine, real world on the ground experience is the best thing to have in your toolkit. Yes I knew this would mean that I would have to sacrifice some personal comfort, but that's life and I decided there was something that mattered more to me.

No one is paying me to write this, but just like Favre felt compelled to state his case, I wanted to give mine. I don't think I'm being too biased, or one-sided here. I confess that Hyde Park is not the safest place in Chicago. But I think this is one of those situations where each person just needs to make the call for themselves and see what they value. It's not that there's a right or wrong, just personal "fit".

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me, or contact any of the other fantastic people on this thread.

The best to all of you in your apps. I'm sure you will all find great med schools to study at. 🙂

you got an interview invite on a sunday?

did you get it via email or did you have to check your status?

I received my invite by email. Once you do receive an invite, your status when you log into Priztker's system automatically gives you the link for you to set up your interview.

So... I've been complete since July 12th or so. (moved to MD screen around that day).
It's been 3 weeks and nothing has changed from "under review" status.

Should I e-mail them and ask if that's... ok? (app not lost, etc) or just wait?

Everyone seems to have had a quick turn-around?

I would not call for this early. Check your status and if the stuff is checked in, then that means that they received everything and you are still "under review".

yea everything is in. it was completed 12th and sent to the comm for review later that day.

i was worried since it's been 3 weeks and everyone seems to have heard back in a lot less time :\ but i guess it's different for each person

Unsecured - I'm in the same boat. Submitted/completed around the 15th and have received no communcation, positive or negative. Perhaps no news is good news at this point! I'm sure they've been inundated with secondaries as of late.

When Pritzker reviews your application, is your icon unlocked? Since my application is locked does that mean it is not yet under review?

I've been complete since 7/19. Starting to lose hope that no news really is good news 🙁. Please reassure me that this is true. Thank you.

When Pritzker reviews your application, is your icon unlocked? Since my application is locked does that mean it is not yet under review?

Mine has been locked since I submitted. You have to think it has been reviewed once by now, right? I think the ''application locked'' has to do with you making changes to it, and nothing to do with the status of its review.

anyway, :luck: to those who haven't heard anything yet

I've been complete and under review since the 22nd. No word yet. Losing hope, too.

If you submitted your fee online via the website, how long did it take for it to appear as received?

My fee processed and I my app was complete the next morning...they have to do it manually, apparently.

I was in the same boat as a bunch of other people who hadn't heard back for weeks from Pritzker, but they finally rejected me today.

Stats: 3.97 GPA, 41Q MCAT
Activities: 3 years research, 3 years elementary school tutoring, internship at free clinic, senior honorary, biology TA, etc.

Spent a ton of time on the secondary because it seems like a really great school, but I guess they would know best if an applicant is a good fit.

Bummer for me but good luck to everybody who did get interviews!

Just curious, for people who got put on hold for later review for an interview for U Chicago, what's the percentage of getting an interview if you get put on hold for later review? and how many people are actually accepted if you are put on hold for later review? Thanx a lot!

Yup. Chicago is super fast. Be prepared for one of the following decisions:

(1) Interview Invitation- 600 students (by the end of the process)
(2) Pre-Interview Hold (re-evaluate in December)- 200-300 students, 10-15% get interviews
(3) Rejection- Everyone Else.

Not sure about how many of those 20-45 people who get interviews off hold actually get accepted. It feels like bad news, but getting the intial interview is also about 10% right (600/~6000 apps)? Maybe it's not the end of the world.

Not sure why they're rejecting people with astronomical numbers though.

Hey guys,

I was wondering what the "login" username is for pritzker? I made the account a week and a half ago and I can't remember what they use as a username (email, amcas ID etc)

I appreciate it!

Congrats! I've got the exact same numbers as you and just submitted my secondary today. Hopefully an interview invite is in the works :xf:

I feel your pain. I don't get it, I don't think we ever will.

How long did it take you guys for your LORs to be marked as received? More than a couple days?

It took them about 5 days to process mine (after AMCAS received them). So I wouldn't worry about it. 🙂

After not hearing back for 3 weeks, they finally sent me the rejection today. Thanks for the big c*ck tease Pritzker!

Good luck to everyone else, I hope it's better than mine was.

Yeah I'm in the same situation as you - numbers aren't too stellar (d*mn you science GPA!) but I spent a lot of time on the essays and was excited when I didn't get the instant reject that others experienced. This "Wait 2-3 weeks until we formally reject you" is much worse.

Sorry to hear that you were rejected - I had hope that a "maybe" pile did indeed exist for people with less than stellar numbers.

The red HOLD icon is lit saying the application is on hold for my mcat and I took 6/17. Anyone else having this problem? I submitted the secondary 7/26.

Yes. I also took the MCAT 6/17. I submitted my secondary 8/5

**update** I emailed the office and they promptly reassured me that they had everything and that my app was complete.

Woha I also received my interview invite four days after completing my secondary application. Four seems to be the magic number?

So awesome to see that email this morning on the way to work. I no longer have a case of the Mondays today 🙂

congrats on the interview DukeNationalchamps, do you mind sharing your stats? I'm definitely losing hope here, as my numbers are a little weak, but I'm crossing my fingers that since I haven't officially been rejected, that maybe I'm sitting in a "maybe" pile.

cGPA: 3.84, sGPA: 3.82, MCAT: 34Q. So my numbers are competitive, but they are also not at the top of the heap. The biggest factor for my interview invite would probably be my essays, they definitely showed how excited I am for Pritzker and how my background is very different.
