please refer above to the helpful list posted about how UIC statuses work.

Most likely you will return back to application is in process (if you are currently applicant in process) because UIC won't send out interview invites until early Sept.

The helpful list is what I was referring to. My question wasn't about my status, I'm not worried at all I only put mine in a few days ago. My question is about the actual statuses available. Is there indeed an "applicant in process" or is it really "application in process" and people are reading theirs wrong or there was a typo? That was my question. Not about mine.

No typo, there is a subtle but apparently distinct difference. Applicant means they are reviewing you...application means that you are complete but they are not actively reviewing your file.

You can go back and forth (numerous times) between application and applicant prior to receiving an interview.

Thank you! Good to know, I was just a little confused by it all.

how long did you guys have to wait for the link to the secondary to come in after you received the email about the application status?

how long did you guys have to wait for the link to the secondary to come in after you received the email about the application status?

Two days after. Initial e-mail: 07/06. 2nd e-mail: 07/08

Just got a secondary invite! Woohoo! I didn't know they screen. Does anyone know what they screen for?

how long did you guys have to wait for the link to the secondary to come in after you received the email about the application status?

About an hour for me.

For the second essay, it says "Describe a hobby or activity other than something in medicine, in which you have a keen interest. Why?"

Do you guys think it would be appropriate for me to talk about a student organization I started which discusses bioethics? It is related to medicine in that we discuss medical issues, but I'm not sure if that's off topic.

How many max letters of recommendation does UIC accept? Thanks!

That's an answer you can very easily find on their website. Are SDN'ers allergic to med school websites and/or picking up the phone to call admissions office?

Hey guys,

I had a question on the last, educational environment prompt. When I first looked at it, it seemed like your typical extenuating circumstances question .. where you'd only fill it out if you had serious issue or situation. However, the list of examples also mentions employment .. I mean, I worked all through college to partly support myself, but I don't know if that's really what they're looking for. Did most people put stuff down for this or leave it blank?

Thanks! 🙂

I talked about working to support myself!

For some reason, I don't remember this. I guess because I wouldn't have anything to add to it anyways?

Just got screened in....

Does anyone know how difficult their screening process is? I was verified last week and got my application and password today.

My status has been "applicant in progress" for a 1.5 weeks now. What about you guys?

I have also had the same status, but for probably 2.5 weeks or 3

I'm still "application in progress'...possibly because they haven't gotten to me...? or because I'm OOS...

Seriously guys, read the whole tread.

You want to be application in process... unless it changes to select interview date. Application in process = ON HOLD. Considering they haven't given out intervies yet, this is OK. Everything other status besides application in process or selection interview date is pretty bad (well "applicant in process" just means you are being reviewed for the day... and might either be given an interview, placed back on hold, or rejected.)

Hi everyone! I decided to post this time line (posted on past years' threads) that was of great service to me this past cycle. I hope that it finds you well. 🙂

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page.

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.
M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.
N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.
S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection 🙁 ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. :xf: ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance 😀 ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

*** PLEASE BEAR IN MIND that this info came from last year's thread! Therefore, the whole process may have changed since then, and there is no guarantee to this information. But it worked for me (even though I was given the same warning) and the time line was accurate.

Good look to all of you class of 2015 applicants!! 😀

Seriously guys, read the whole tread.

It is nice of you to remind us of these status changes, but wouldn't being application in progress possibly mean that I am not "on hold", but rather am still "complete" and have not yet been reviewed?

That was my "gripe"..that I thought I was still "waiting to be looked at"...that's all.

well it's either or. If you submitted early July, I bet they already looked at your application... maybe they haven't yet. Considering according to last years thread that they don't really give interviews until August, I wouldn't be too concerned about changes in your status.

Also - if you check your status every day, you should see it change from applicant in process back to application in process (I'm pretty sure I did back when I was checking every day before I looked at last years thread... and then I realized it didn't matter much)

As avoidthetiger was trying to say...considering it's still July I think it's a little premature to be obsessing over your online status. It's probably too soon have a "gripe" about "waiting to be looked at". According to the 2009-10 secondary thread they are still trying to figure out this upcoming year's class and pulling individuals off the wait list. As someone else mentioned, they won't be sending out interview invites for awhile so you probably haven't been reviewed. This is not a bad thing or something to stress over. Patience! 🙂

I have been checking my status every day (maybe more than once 😳), and it has stayed at Application in Process since the very beginning, never changing to Applicant and changing back or anything. I submitted pretty early, so I'm pretty sure they haven't really started looking yet. It's super early.

so ... i know that generally the rule is that if you are a reapplicant you should write new secondary essays, but for the stressed essay, my most stressful situation is the same as last year. if i make a few structural changes but leave it essentially the same, will it be looked at as a red flag? i mean this is like a situation where most things wouldnt be more stressful ... and something else would just be silly in comparison. but i don't want them to think i am lazy either. and i am changing the hobby question. thoughts?

thanks 🙂

This is just my $0.02, but I am a reapplicant and I am not even looking at my previous application essays from two years ago to see what I wrote because to me, the essays are one of the easiest things to update and improve about your application. Unless an admissions committee told you that they really liked a particular essay of course. If it was me, I would update, even if it means using the same experience and writing about it from a different point-of-view (for example, since you first applied, how has the meaning of this experience changed for you or how do you view it now?). I guess it depends on your specific experience too, though, since you didn't really elaborate.

For those that submitted already, what does your status say? Mine says "recommendations: __ received from AMCAS, expecting a total of ___, awaiting Admission Officer letter review"

My LOR section is blank....but it does show the dates of when I submitted my app, etc.

Did you have to call about this status, or did it resolve itself?

I just checked today, it says the same thing. I submitted on 07/08, the day after I received the 2ndary. It was my very first submission.

I am not that confident that I will get an interview here, since their questions do not really give me a chance to shine. If anything, I am avoiding getting an e-mail from them... because it'll more likely be a rejection.

And why are you checking EVERYDAY?! LOL

Ughhhh. Anyone have trouble entering ECs in the secondary? I keep getting this error:

- Contact name is required, contact phone or email is optional. From, To, Hours and Activity Type are also required.
And no I'm not stupid, the contact name is absolutely filled out, as are the from, to, hours, and activity type boxes. Anyone else have this error regardless? I tried two different browsers (Safari and Firefox).

EDIT: To clarify, I have 11 activities listed and only my "Shadowing" one is giving this error. Even if I delete the entire activity from my list, it still gives me this error! Blah.

I didn't have any trouble at all. Have you tried internet explorer?

I have a Mac so I don't have IE installed, but I could download it I suppose and test that browser as well. I just am baffled because I previously entered 11 activities and successfully saved it and now it's giving me this error. The reason I need to update it is because I have a typo and I am a stickler for spelling haha.

I had that same problem last year (mac user as well)...I'm not sure how I resolved it though. I might have just tried it from a pc with internet explorer.

I had all sorts of app problems with chrome but everything worked with firefox and IE. Hope that helps.

Good plan, I'll try and snag my moms for a few minutes tonight. I can't believe it though.... something a Mac can't do! lol

EDIT: No luck! I cannot figure this crap out. Geez. I'm gonna try to fiddle around with it, but I emailed their tech support just in case.

EDIT #2: lol. So I edited the whole list, took out that activity and moved all the activities below it up one, and then put the activity that was giving me trouble at the end of the list. I still get the same error message on that same entry line (i.e. the error message does not show on the same activity anymore, just the activity that is in the same line), so it must be a glitch in the system right now since it was not dependent on anything that was typed into the boxes. Weird. Hopefully tech support can help tomorrow.

Anyone get an e-mail from here asking you to apply to their MD/PhD program. It was kind of random.

I'm confused-- where are you guys seeing the Application complete notation? Mine just says "Your Application has been successfully submitted.'
in the Supplemental Application Status.

Just wondering if anyone's gotten past the "application is in process" status. Anybody hear about interviews yet? Anyone know what the timeline tends to be for Early Decision students on getting to the interview table? Someone said something about interviews in September, but it seems like an awful long time to hold apps before bringing people in.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. I would say nobody has heard anything yet, I'm still at Application in process. As a rule of thumb, if we start hearing stuff, it WILL be in this thread.

My status just says "sufficient recommendation received", I haven't seen the applicant in progress status yet, anyone else in the same boat?

My application status just switched from "application in progress" to "applicant in progress" !

yey for progress.

Me three! Probably going to end up being "Final Decision made" haha.

No no! Think positive 🙂 I think we're applying to a lot of the same schools lol, maybe ill see you at an interview :luck:

Haha, merci beaucoup! we'll see what happens....lol. Thinking negatively helps the positive outcomes just THAT much more exciting..JK!
