I was going to ask this...along with whether anyone has received the package in the mail yet?

I haven't received the CBC email, but for what it's worth, I've been accepted to another school already (except they haven't received my paperwork yet so I don't know how far along they are in terms of running the CBC).

For all who have received the "final decision made" message:

Has anyone received the CBC email?

I have not gotten the CBC email nor the snail mail package.

I was wondering about that as well- I'm in the same boat, so it's possible. Hopefully we get the mail by the end of this week!

I'm interviewing at the Chicago campus at the end of November. How was the interview day and what were your impressions of the school/campus? Any suggestions on how to prepare? Also, is there validated parking?

bump! anyone?

bump! anyone?

The interview date was very relaxed--Your day will either start with interviews (if you're a morning interview person) or the orientation/tour (if you're a PM interview person). The orientation is just a quick presentation about the school from the Assoc Dean of Admissions and it containers an overview of the school's various programs and opportunities. Then we have a lunch (sandwiches, chips, and a drink), and a tour of the campus. At this point, you're either done with your day and can go home, or need to wait for your interviews.

I assume this is not your first interview (since it says C/O 2015 in your signature), so just go in there and be yourself...just know your application, be confident and able to answer questions about various topics--ethical/situational or about yourself. It'll all vary based on your interviewers...

I can't help in regards to the validated parking, because I took the L to/from my hotel.

Good luck! Relax and enjoy your time at UIC!

I just received the big white envelope 11/1/10. In-state resident here!

CBC emails can't be used as an indicator of an acceptance until after January if I recall.

I haven't been on SDN in about a week or so, but thought this warrant posting...

So I thought of checking my status on the UIC website out of the blue, and got this: "A final decision was made on your application on 10-28-10. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

I interviewed on 10-21-10 and am OOS. Apparently they only took a week to come to a decision for me? The last time I got an early message from another school, it was a rejection so now I'm freaking out!!! That school said it would take 6-8 weeks to come to a decision and they rejected me in only 3 weeks! I've come to associate that early news can only be bad news.

This is so depressing 🙁. I wished I hadn't check my status because now I'll just freak out for the next two weeks.

What makes you think that it was a rejection? Every school does things differently...It's completely possible that the committee met and decided to make decisions on all files that they had in front of them! Don't lose hope just yet! Also, check to see if the status page matches the descriptions given a few pages prior (the appearance of an additional correspondence tab)--could be a sign of an acceptance! 🙂

😍:luck:😍packet in the mail, i'm in i'm in!!😍:luck:😍

I see "Additional Correspondence" at top right of the same page that has the "final decision" message. Does this really mean anything at all?

Congrats to all the acceptances so far! Hope everyone here gets in too! 🙂

they got these in the mail fast! It was a little surreal to see the letter. Congrats to the others and I really hope you all have good luck for those who havent heard exactly what they wanted yet.

Well, based on PAST years' cycles, it's indicative of an acceptance. I know it's always best to err on the side of caution and wait for hte mail to arrive, and that is what I would suggest you do in this case. Be wary, but don't be discouraged either! You never know what the U of I system may want from you.

Also, what makes you think you were rejected (aside from the timing)? Did you not have a good interview?

it means an acceptance. UIC doesn't do rejections or waitlist this early (they said this in the interview)- everyone last year who got the final decision message was accepted.

what are your stats for those of you who have been accepted? If you don't mind sharing 🙂

Good to know. Thanks for that info.

Don't tease me. I'll let you know if you're right when the mail comes to Ohio. I don't know if I remember hearing that at my interview (it definitely might have gone in one ear and out the other). It seems like you're right, as there has not been report of bad news 👍 Good call.

I don't remember hearing that... but no one seem to contradict that so far.

Could there be a reporting bias last year? People who got rejected are usually not so eager to announce it. I know I wouldn't, at least not right away. 🙁

I think you are fine. I remember hearing that UIC does not reject post interview. They re-review you at the next adcom meeting until you get a "decision made" or July rolls around and you are still in the review pile.

Hey guys,

Anyone know what the UIC Med school interviews are like at Peoria?? I have one there coming up and I just want to know what I'm going to be up against.

Also, anyone know what the acceptance rates are after you are invited for an intervieww?

Thanks!

Hey,

Interviews at Peoria operate in much the same way they operate at the other three campuses. After introductions with the dean, there is a brief tour of the facility (that will, obviously, vary) which lasts around 30-40 minutes. These tours are usually given by M2 students. You will then be taken to a "holding room" where you can ask questions of the medical students that will be there with you.

The interview is conducted by 2 or 3 people, at least one of whom is an M.D. There is also at least one student on the panel, usually an M3 or M4. Usually, when there is a third interviewer, it is a senior administrative faculty member or another senior medical student.

Interviews are on an individual basis.

I will also say that I, personally, am interviewing applicants on 11/4. Therefore, in fairness' sake, I will not address anything else about interview day for that purpose. Best of luck to you!!

It's so nice to finally get in 🙂

Has anyone heard back from the UIL MSP (MD/PhD, but not the MSTP) program?

Anyone here interviewed on 10/21 at the Chicago campus?

Or anyone else from the Boston area waiting for their packet to arrive? :xf:

Boston area here, and just got my packet in the mail today! :luck: to you! I'm sure you will hear soon!

That's great!! CONGRATS!!! Was your decision made on 10-28? I can't wait to go home to check the mailbox!

Thanks so much! I definitely wasn't expecting the mail to get to us so quickly. It was an awesome surprise! And yes, my decision was also made on 10-28. Good luck getting through the rest of your day 😉

I got the packet in the mail today, too! I am from CA. I:10/13 in Rockford.

My very first acceptance!! So excited.... but still trying to reconcile the ridiculously hefty price tag for an OOS! 🙁

Congrats on all the acceptances guys! 😀 Interview today at the Chicago campus, so hopefully I'll be getting my own big white package soon!

Anyone know when the admissions committee meets next? Is it not until the end of Nov?

congrats to all who got accepted or invited to interviews!

so, i'm in state resident and i still haven't gotten an interview invite yet. just wondering what gives. i have high MCAT/GPA from a top 10 school, felt that i put a lot of thought into the essays, good ECs and interesting experiences, good letters, and i've had invites to other schools (hopkins, wash u, yale, etc) not sure what's going on here. anyone in the same situation?

What does your status check page say and when did you submit your application? If you're "application in progress" and it's been a while, they could still be deciding/re-reviewing your application as time passes.

I wouldn't lose out hope unless it's been a SUPER long time. If you went to a top 10 school and have high stats, maybe they just think you wouldn't want to go to UofI...which is always a poor assumption on their part, IMO. Good luck to you and don't think negatively until a rejection letter comes! 🙂

takes wayy too long to deliver mail from Chicago (to SoCali) when it comes to med school paperwork.

In short, didn't receive anything in the mail from UIC yet..hopefully tomorrow? haha. *sigh*

I sent something to a school in Chicago Monday of last week and it didn't arrive til this past Monday (the first of November)...that was really surprising to me, because I thought first-class mail always took about 3-4 business days in the United States (even cross country).

Accepted!!!!!😍

OSS. 3.7/3.5 GPA. 32 MCAT.
Interview: 10/14

Best of luck to all those still waiting.

Same boat here. Does anyone know any financial aid stats for OOS? Are there a large amount of OOSers with some kind of gift aid from the school (i.e. grants, scholarships)? 92K ECA is no joke.

Yeah, thats what I'm wondering too. Trying to figure out a reasonable financial plan is going to be a beast. I just hope that UIC will help me out with the process.

ha! chicago has the worst mail system in the country. ive lived here all of my life and it still amazes me how long it takes for things to get to where they are supposed to go. dont sweat it.... in fact get used to it.

im also in the same boat as you guys who havent heard anything yet. I was complete in early august, and have never seen my status change. meanwhile, ive had interviews at "better" schools. idk. im going to write an update letter next week and see if that does anything. good luck friends.

Thanks for your opinion! I'm still shocked that it takes 5-7 days for things to get to me from Chicago. One school sent out a decision letter that went on out Monday, and it arrived on Friday. I then returned to them what they had wanted on Monday, and they received it the following Monday. *sigh*

Hopefully the UIC package will be in my mailbox soon...I just want it ...even though I'm fairly certain of what it contains haha. This doesn't bode well for my demeanour--"where are these lab results?! I know you're done with them! Get them down here! STAT!" lol.

ANYWAY, Good luck to everyone else here! 🙂

Hey Irish! I think I sat next to you during the deans presentation.

A good interview day at uic. Informative, friendly, and chill. The one big takeaway was that this school offers amazing clinical experiences. There are myriad ways to get involved in whatever your area of interest may be. There are terrific hospitals for rotations and plenty of opportunities to extend into what interests you the most.

Their stated goal is to give their students a high quality broad (generalized) education. But if you want to drill into someone special, it is there.

I was impressed. Great school.

Anyone know when the admissions committee meets next? Is it not until the end of Nov?

We who interviewed today were told we would hear a decision, probably, by the end of his month. The adcomm meets once a month. So... Probably they will meet in two or three weeks and then there will be more news.

Accepted. Got the 'Additional Correspondances' tab as well.

Good luck to those still waiting.

Does anyone know what hepatitis B form should be sent in after sending in the acceptance form? as well as to what address Official transcripts should be sent? Thanks a gazillion👍

There is an immunization form on their website. I believe you send everything to the address listed on the top right of the "Requirements for Permission to Register" sheet we got in the packet.

http://www.medicine.uic.edu/admissions

On the sidebar click on Medical Immunization Form for Admissions

Edit: I just called the admissions office, and those who went to UIUC keep the same UIN number. Those who don't have a UIN number can leave it blank.

I would call UIC soon if you haven't got the package yet -- and atleast let them know. On the version I got, they wanted the acceptance deposit back by Nov. 15th and all the forms signed... I wouldn't want them to rescind your acceptance because you couldn't return everything on time.

Also -- UIC keeps sending stuff to my permanent address instead of my mailing address. Luckily I just went home this week -- otherwise who know's if I would have been able to mail back all the forms in time.

If you permanent address is different than your mailing address, you might want to check there too.
