My application just turned to "applicant in process". How soon did you guys get an interview invite/other response? Thanks again!

I would call UIC soon if you haven't got the package yet -- and atleast let them know. On the version I got, they wanted the acceptance deposit back by Nov. 15th and all the forms signed... I wouldn't want them to rescind your acceptance because you couldn't return everything on time.

Also -- UIC keeps sending stuff to my permanent address instead of my mailing address. Luckily I just went home this week -- otherwise who know's if I would have been able to mail back all the forms in time.

If you permanent address is different than your mailing address, you might want to check there too.

Thanks AvoidtheTiger for the advice! Thankfully I got it today and immediately posted back all of the four documents they required to go into that blue envelope. Based on my estimates, it should be there by Friday of next week or Monday of the following week...(the due date itself)--at least based on how long it took for their package to arrive in my mailbox.

hey. jw, when were you marked complete by? just trying to get an estimation of how long it takes for the status to change from "application in process" to "applicant in process". thanks and GOOD LUCK 🙂

I turned my secondary in on 10/28. My letters came in 11/4, and thats when "applicant in process" showed up. It never said application in process for me. I'm OOS if that matters.
 
Got an interview here... checked my status online and the grid popped up yesterday.

They uploaded my LOR's and completed my app on 9/15 and it went straight to Application in Process. Then 4 weeks later, Applicant in Process. Then ~2.5 weeks until ii. :luck: to all!
 
I got my campus placement letter today in the mail. Chicago Track!
 
me too. UIC is my top choice so I'm really pumped that this all worked out so fast. I was super impressed by how nice all their staff was and how quick their turnaround has been on everything.
 
^ Yes, they do have a quick turn around! Chicago placement snail mail today.

Interview Invite: 9.1 (had "applicant" status ~2weeks before ii)
Interview: 10.1
Acceptance: 10.28

Though I really liked my interviewers and UIC's commitment to working with a diverse patient population, it didn't strike me how ridiculously expensive it is to attend until I got my acceptance packet.
 
still applicant in process....almost two months now I think.. 🙁 is that bad???
 
Hey folks,

I just want to give my two cents about the price of attending UIC. The *expensive* price of attending UIC.

While it is true that it is an expensive school, particularly for those who are out of state, do not lose sight on the fact that this is a 4-year preparation for 50+ year career. You will have more than enough time to pay back any debt you have, and federal/private loan companies are more than willing to work with you so that you can establish a fair monthly payment after you get out of residency that still allows you to enjoy your salary.

If you get in to a school that's cheaper and you don't care where you go, then by all means, go for it. But if UIC is the only school you get in to (or if it's the only non-Carribbean school you get in to, for that matter), don't risk deferring and re-applying to get in somewhere else. I had a friend who told me he seriously considered doing that.

You're talking about a decades-long career. The money seems daunting now but you will have more than enough time to pay it back. Plus, don't forget about loan forgiveness programs. They allow you to practice in all sorts of settings in all sorts of fields, certainly you can find something for you.

If you really want to be a doctor, money shouldn't get in your way.

ahhh... at least you are "applicant in Process"... I have been stuck at "application in process" since Aug. 12 🙁 and they just tell me to be patient when I call...

I interviewed at Peoria yesterday, and it was actually super chill. I had one student interviewer and another with a panel of two doctors, one retired and one faculty. It was closed file, so all they had was my personal statement and my secondary essays. The questions were pretty standard: why medicine, greatest strength/weakness, tell me about a time you failed, what do you think about healthcare reform->they asked me what the problem with healthcare was(pre-existing conditions, cost per service, etc), how do you see yourself practicing in 10 years, etc. Overall, it was a really good first interview experience. The facilities were a little meh, but the Peoria campus definitely made their case about coming there. They really tried to make the whole thing as low stress as possible, which I really appreciated.

i'm actually still at no decision made, which is a little disappointing/frustrating, because i thought it went so well! i have a funny feeling they're going to string me along for a while...good luck at your interview day though!
 
I have a question for those that interviewed in Peoria. Where did they have you eat lunch?? It really sucks not having a cafeteria here. There are just vending machines with junk food...even a frozen machine with ice cream and frozen dinners! What did they do, hand you a roll of quarters?
 
What scholarships are available to Rural Health medical students? Are there any programs affliated with the University that encourage students to take this route? I am aware of the Medical Scholars program at U of I but wondered if anyone had more information about the Rural Health program! Thanks so much for any information that you could forward my way! Best of luck to everyone!
 
Hi can anyone comment on the M1 year at Urbana, what they liked about it the most, hours spent in the classroom, anything that they are willing to share.

For those of you who have been accepted already, have you guys received the CBC email yet? I wonder if they're handling the CBC differently this year possibly?

Does UofI take well to post-interview letters of interest? I did not hear back in the first batch of acceptances and I'm considering sending one (most likely in pdf format attached to an email), but I'm curious to know if they like this or if they disapprove of it. Thanks in advance!

M1 year in Urbana is very Anatomy-intensive. I think even moreso than most schools. I think this is, unfortunately, to the detriment of its students because honestly the degree of detail to which Urbana's Anatomy (the lab at least) is taught is *WAY* more in depth than one would ever need to know for M3 Surgery clerkship, much less Step 1 of USMLE. In my opinion, Anatomy lab should be half of what it is, and the extra time should be focused on Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, which are far more useful for M2 and beyond.

As far as what I enjoyed in Urbana-Champaign, the nightlife is pretty decent. Haha... but really I thought for the most part I got a pretty decent M1 experience at Urbana. Every place is with its faults. I will say that I miss living in Urbana-Champaign though... it really caters to young people. Peoria and Rockford are full of old geezers...

You probably spend about 4 hours in the classroom per day and then about 10-15 hours in the Anatomy lab per week (at least) and even moreso as lab practicals approach. There's also 3-5 hours per week of labs/small group exercises for Immuno-Micro, Histology, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience.

I overheard the last few minutes of the presentation that Dr. Rowe (Student Affairs Assoc. Dean at Peoria) gave to the applicants during the Admissions Interview session. She says that letters of gratitude for interviews do not go on your file and that her secretary would probably prefer you not send one because it's just another letter she has to forward off to the right person. I think this would probably apply to letters of interest, as well... and I think this policy would apply to all campuses, for fairness.

Frankly, I don't think the Admissions Committee refrains from extending an acceptance to an applicant because they are afraid they aren't interested. So writing a letter of interest would probably be a waste of ink.

I guess it couldn't really *hurt* you though....

What is the CBC email about? I submitted my acceptance and received my campus assignment already but have not received any emails from the school.

In previous years accepted students would receive a criminal background check (CBC) email a few days after their status change. This year however it seems no one has received the email and after speaking with the admissions office it's because they won't be sending them out until early 2011.
 
i get to the status check link and then it tells me to check through AAMC and then i log in to my AAMC app and then i don't know what to do

please help!!!!

edit: nvm, i found it -- in prog.

check this site. Click next at the bottom of the page (where it lists your LORs/completion date). I learned I was invited to an interview via this site (and they sent me snail mail)
 
Hey all~

Interviewed at Chicago last week, and loved it! My status now says "Decision Pending", so I guess that's good at this point. Any idea when the next batch of acceptances will go out?

The admissions committee meets every third Thursday of a month (if a month has five, then it is the second to the last) with very few exceptions like the match week etc...then the decision changes mostly by the following Monday or that very Friday (highly unlikely) and the package comes in the mail within that week of status change or the week after if you are out of state!

So, if we interview say on 11/30, the committee won't meet to review my file until the 3rd Thursday of December? Though Dec. has 5 thursdays, but the 2nd to last is 2 days before Christmas (so i'm assuming third thursday?)

The admissions committee meet this year the LAST thursday of the month (in October). So don't freak out if they don't meet the thurd Thursday this month -- though considering Thanksgiving is the last thursday this month, they might meet on the third thursday.

My status changed around 4pm EST the friday after they meet (the next day)
 
Although my status has yet to change from "application in process," I was told that I have passed the first screening after the secondary and I will be reviewed at the next committee meeting next Thursday. 😕Confusing 😕
 
zOMG, finally saw the change to "Applicant in Process" after having submitted stuff at the end of July .. I know that doesn't mean much, but it was so nervewrecking to see "Application in Process" every single time I checked up until now haha

Application in process is basically "in the process of being complete."
Applicant in process is basically "your app is in the process of being reviewed."
 
I dont think I was ever applicant in process and I submitted the 28th of July. I honestly just expect a silent rejection at this point and would doubt if they never reviewed my file.

The only thing I can think of is not meeting their "behavior/social science" requirement. I was not sure what classes they counted but figured some of my spanish culture classes would count. Its either that or it changed when I wasnt checking the status regularly and changed back. They do silent rejections here correct? I doubt they will interview me though considering Im OOS

@gujuDoc - I think you can change back and forth between "Application in Process" and "Applicant in Process" .. i.e. if they review you and put you on hold, you'll go back from Applicant -> Application. Unless you've been checking on a daily basis, you could miss it and go back. So, I'm assuming its totally possible to have sent in your stuff forever ago and still be in "Application" .. that's at least from my understanding

@rpgdude21 - If you're going to call them, tomorrow's actually the best day .. based on what someone told me last week, they have counselors there on Thursday

yeah Thursday they have a counselor or something based on what they told me in the past. BUT! I do not know if they're really for appointments only.

It actually wouldn't be a bad idea if you've never taken Anatomy to buy a Netter Anatomy atlas over the summer and familiarize yourself. Do it leisurely, of course. It's always easier to learn something the "first" time if you have passing familiarity with it.

I struggled with Anatomy, despite doing really well in all my other courses. This was certainly because I had never taken any Anatomy before, and most of my classmates had.
