Just curious, but has anyone else heard this during their interview day or anywhere else? I'm probably being really neurotic regarding the date in the correspondence tab but, if this statement can be validated by others, it would at least relieve some anxiety. Thanks!

We heard this during the Dean's presentation on our interview date, 11/3/10, as well. He said a rejection right now in the cycle is a really "drastic" decision. So I hope you hear good news. 🙂

I also have the "Final decision" status! And there is a date (11/18/2010) listed in my Additional Correspondence tab.

Now I'm getting neurotic over the date/no-date placement in the Additional Correspondence tab...I really hope this means good news though! To people in Illinois who got accepted, how long did it take for you to receive your envelope? I'm thinking a couple of days after the status update?

Fingers crossed 🙂xf::luck:) for good news!

Edit: I interviewed on Oct. 4th.

check 2008-2009 thread, i think it means when they mailed your stuff to you.

My status just went from application in process to
"A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

Strangely there is no date for when the decision was made but as I did not interview, I am presuming this is a rejection.

This is the same manner in which I was rejected last year. Final decision pre-interview = rejection. :luck:with other schools.

I also got the "Final decision", and "Additional correspondence 11/18/10" status update. :xf:Here's hoping for a fat packet in the mail soon!

btw, post #136 in this thread has break down of what status updates meant according to last year's applicants.

gl all

I have today's date next to the additional correspondence tab...the previous people who were accepted had nothing in the box. That sort of scares me...

I was accepted in the first round of decisions (Oct 28). I had no date...but I checked just now, and I have the 11-18 date in my additional correspondence tab. I think you'll hear good news. 🙂

Any other people accepted in October get that 11-18 date?

Thank you! That is hopeful news...cautiously optimistic at this point

Thanks buddy! 🙂

Hm... that's strange. I thought they don't do rejections. You simply stay in decision pending until the cycle is over.

I think it might be that they don't tend to do post-interview rejections. It seems, based on a few posts in this thread, that UIC does send out pre-interview rejections.

We heard this during the Dean's presentation on our interview date, 11/3/10, as well. He said a rejection right now in the cycle is a really "drastic" decision. So I hope you hear good news. 🙂

That's good to hear. It relieves some anxiety but I'll continue to curb my enthusiasm until I have a letter in hand.

I bet the date next to "additional correspondence" is the date they mailed you the decision...?

check 2008-2009 thread, i think it means when they mailed your stuff to you.

That's what I initially thought too, but the following post makes it seem like it might not be the date when they mail you your stuff:

If the date signifies when they sent out the letter, it wouldn't make sense for the first batch people to have 11-18-2010 in the grid there. Maybe they have a checklist box that they check off confirming they sent something and they didn't get around to doing it with the first batch until the other day? I don't know.

Too much analyzing. :meanie:

Anyways, I'm going to continue with the cautious optimism until I get good news. Seems like the only rational thing to do at this point. I just hope I can keep my sanity till the mail arrives.

Does anyone know if UIC gives financial aid/scholarships to cover the crazy ass OOS tuition? I know some schools give out aid to cover the OOS difference to encourage OOS matriculants. I'd definitely do it if given a lower tuition rate..I mean, I have an acceptance from another IL school whose COA is less than UIC's OOS tuition alone...although I think that MOST schools' COA is less than UIC's OOS tuition lol.

My brother is M4 OOS and he received a scholarship covering the difference. Not sure if he got more than the difference or not.

I'm still waiting patiently for my status to change from "application in process". Been complete since the first week of September.

I guess I get passed over this round - still "decision pending." Should I send a letter of interest? Kaushik, did you end up doing that? I feel like it's strange to do that in this case because it's presumptuous to say "hi, since my status is still decision pending, I know I'm on hold, etc." After all, the process is SDN speculation and it's possible that my file didn't even get reviewed even though I interviewed 10/26

I think you are going to be fine. If you read last years thread there was a person who interviewed in September and had the "decision pending" till April. He/She eventually got in, but was $hitting a brick on SDN about it every month. Moral of the story: its still November, no need to get your panties in a bunch.

ps: I am not saying you are acting alittle rash, but just know there is still alot of time in the game. We were told by the Dean at UIC Peoria, the hardest part is getting an interview at UIC.

Good news guys! I got the acceptance packet today! My first acceptance!! I still can't believe it; it feels so surreal. I'm going to be a doctor!! 🙂

Everyone else who was also nervous about the whole date placement in the add. correspondence tab, look forward to acceptance letters guys! :luck:

Hi guys, does anyone know if one can choose urbana-champange and stay there for 4 years WITHOUT being a MD/PhD student?

AHHHHH ME TOO! I'M GONNA BE A DOCTOR TOO!!!!!!!!

Acceptance as well. Hope you guys get the placements you want.
I would imagine, since this is only the second batch of acceptances, that it's very unlikely that Chicago spots are filled up already? With that being said, my dad is overnighting the packet to me (I'm out of town), so I should get it on Monday and I'm planning on sending the mail out that same day as well. Hoping for Chicago placement! :xf::luck:

10/13 interview, still decision pending. I'm assuming I have a very low chance at this point. I hope they let me down easy, especially considering how badly I wanted to go to UIC and live close to home.

Mee!!!
Just request it on the reply card the earlier the better.

Thanks for the information! Guess I'll call the Office of Fin Aid to see what they say!

Hey kaushik! MAJOR CONGRATS to you on the acceptance! Definitely worth the wait 🙂

hey guys,

i was just wondering generally from application in process then to applicant in process then to interview what were the approximate timetables? i feel its taking longer for me especially since im oos and completed late. thanks for any insights you can give

Checked the mail late Friday hoping for a fat envelope from UIC, but got a thin one from Wisconsin instead. Oh well.

hey got accepted last month.... where are the forms for our vaccinations?

Also... super congrats on all those who got accepted at UIC! I loved the Chicago-ness of it and the really down to earth people that led the interviews.

Congrats!!

My status says the same thing, but I have not yet received the packet in the mail! Are you an Illinois resident? I'm currently on the east coast so maybe the mail today will bring good news?!
:luck: everyone!

I submitted my secondary in mid-August and I've been "Application in Process" ever since. I just called admissions just to ensure they haven't lost my application or anything lol. The lady told me that my application is complete, but it hasn't been sent over to the screeners yet. She said the review process can take 6-8 weeks or more. So basically she told me politely to sit tight 🙂.

+1

good to know I'm not the only one who's still waiting!

Sorry for the late response, but thanks a lot! 🙂

I'm so happy and relieved!

Congrats!!

:luck: everyone!

Thanks! Yes, I'm an Illinois resident. I just moved out of state 2 months ago though, but I have all my med school stuff mailed to my parents' place, which is in one of the suburbs of Chicago. So, they received it on Saturday and my dad just overnighted the contents of the packet to me, which is faster waiting for snail mail to reach me. Sent in my blue response envelope via priority mail today, so UIC should receive it tomorrow! Hoping to get the Chicago campus! :xf::luck:

For all the October acceptance people: how early after you sent in your site request form did you get confirmation on your placement?

Quick Question!

When we turn our site preference in do we have to turn in the "acceptance form?"

This might be a dumb question but is it binding??

Thank you all!

So just realized its been 5 weeks since I turned in my secondary with the rest of my stuff having been turned in before that like letters and stuff since that's through amcas. So 5 weeks since completion.

Above, someone mentioned 6-8 weeks to hear anything. So I wonder if I'll be getting news in the next 2-3 weeks.

Well the lady from admissions said it could also be more than 6-8 weeks. For me, it's been like 12 weeks so far lol. But hopefully we'll both hear back sooner than later (hopefully good news of course!)!

PS: it's funny I see you on a lot of the threads I'm on, I'm rooting for you! 🙂

I don't get this. I'm applicant in process and not application in process and I was complete long after you and the poster below you who wrote that they were complete in late july. I was complete in October and I've already gotten applicant in process. That is so weird that they'd wait so long with your guys' applications when they are probably stronger then mine.

they literally told me that they just havent got to my application yet. i think its a bit of a random process... somewhat linear, but somewhat not. do not freak out if they havent reviewed your file yet. and as for these status updates of "application in process" vs. "applicant in process", who knows if they have been updated correctly, or if they even mean anything. while there are some patterns, there are also several anomalies, so dont base your assumptions solely off of what you read on these threads.

Ahh! After checking my status 5+ times a day for the past 3 months, I am now "Applicant in Process." Whew. Let's see if 2+ years of working on 2 different research projects and 2 letters of rec from professors here merits an interview. :xf:

It looks like UIC received my blue response letter! My status changed from "Final decision made..." to one that shows that they have my acceptance letter and deposit (and also showing that they haven't received my final transcript or Hep B forms yet).

Anybody know how long it took for you to receive your site placement after this status change? My deadline to return the site preference card, etc, was Dec. 6th, so I'm curious as to whether they immediately mail back your site placement or if they mail something to everyone at the same time after Dec. 6th.

I went through last year's thread and it seems like they don't send site placements out as batches but, rather, they seem to be postmarked for the day they received your response.

Meee too! :xf::luck:

Kaushik and IrishCalini:

I got my placement info one week after sending it in!
:luck:

Thanks man! That's good to hear. 🙂

Kaushik, did you do anything (call, send letter, etc.) after not having a decision made the first month?
I'm really happy for your acceptance, and as I'm in the same boat you were in a few weeks ago, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do. Thanks and congrats again!

Thanks so much! 🙂

I didn't do anything but I was seriously considering sending a letter of interest (though another poster mentioned that it might not be a good idea, but worth a try). I was planning on waiting till after the second batches went out before sending one in because I thought sending an LOI too quickly after an interview might be a bit desperate. However, I was (very) pleasantly surprised to get accepted. I honestly have no idea what changed between the first round and the second round. I really don't know if an LOI would've helped or not; it might be worth a try. The admissions committee seemed really nice so I can't imagine them hating you and marking you down for showing interest.

If there's anything I can do to help out (ie. proofread an LOI, etc), don't hesitate to PM me! I'm rooting for you to get in on this next batch! :xf::luck:

Picked up my packet today from the Admissions office. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Somewhere in the Chicago mail system is a duplicate acceptance packet, but I couldn't wait any longer.

PS. To anyone that's curious, I called today to ask if I can find out my campus placement via phone and it did not work. I just need to continue to be patient and sit tight till the snail mail shows up in a week or so. Sooo hard to do right now! I'm way too excited!

Didn't get any sort of notification, but when I logged in to check my status, I saw a huge chart with dates and openings! 😀 Since I am OOS, Chicago is the best site for me to interview at, so my interview isn't until 02/08. Seems like forever from now!

Any advice for the Chicago interviews?

Thanks bud! I really hope you get in on this next batch! Would make for an awesome Christmas gift! 🙂

Congrats on the interview invite! For the Chicago interview, expect each of the 3 interviews to last 30 min. None of mine went over the time limit and each interviewer was pretty aware of that time constraint. I would just recommend going over what's in the UIC interview feedback of SDN. My first interviewer was really awesome! Didn't really ask any questions at all, not even the all-important "Why medicine?" We really just chatted for 30 min. He talked about how it was like training several decades ago compared to how it is now, how much he liked UIC, etc, and that's about it. It was really conversational.

The second interviewer had a few more questions (like why medicine, what's an important characteristic for a doctor to have, etc), but even this one was, for the most part, pretty conversational. My last interviewer was a med student and he/she (in the interest of keeping anonymity) essentially had a list of questions (ie. when were you placed in an ethical situation and what did you do, what's your greatest strength, what did you learn from a failure, etc) that he/she went over. But he/she recognized that they were somewhat cliche (and we joked a little bit about that as well), so it was still a pretty relaxed interview.

Overall, I really had an awesome time on my interview day. Got to meet some great SDN peeps (Asyouwere and hemostat, for example), the interviews themselves were pretty stress-free, and it was near where my family and friends live. So I got to visit them as well! All in all, I had a good time and I'm fairly confident that you will also! 🙂

Last year our site placements were sent out about 1.5-2 weeks after our deposit was due.

Congrats to those of you who were recently accepted and good luck to all of you still waiting to hear back and with upcoming interviews (in the application cycle in general not just U of I 🙂).

Any advice for the Chicago interviews?

I agree about looking over the interview feedback questions. However, I really wasn't asked many of the cliche questions. The majority of my interviews were very conversational and stress-free. Last year the whole health care bill was a hot topic so of course I was asked my opinion on that. Otherwise I really wouldn't stress at all. My M2 interview was exceptionally laid back and the faculty that I interviewed with was very conversational. The most difficult question my M2 asked was "why UIC out of all of the other med schools in chicago". Other than it was just like having a convo w/ a classmate...I asked quite a few questions during that one as well. The lunch is awesome...I hope there are interviews next week (so I can catch any leftovers  if you all are too afraid to eat all of the great food). Out of all my interviews it was by far the best.

My biggest suggestion would be to make sure that you mention anything that you think is of particular importance from your secondaries and/or essays. While the interviewers have your information to read over, they didn't have much time to look over it before the interviews began on my day. Don't assume that they know your file inside and out and don't feel bad if you're telling them things they may or may not have already read.

Also, use the tour to ask questions you're really interested in knowing. The students are pretty down to earth and will give you an honest answer. This is your chance to see if it is a place that you would like to spend the next 4 years, so make sure you use the opportunity to learn as much as possible about what it's really like at the school. I really love my classmates btw! 😍

Anyways, just be confident in your responses and make sure you can verbalize what interests you about UIC and have a couple questions in case the interviewer asks you if you have any questions for them at the end...

Good luck!

Thank you so much Kaushik and mybubbles14. Very good information! I appreciate it. 😀
