Didn't get any sort of notification, but when I logged in to check my status, I saw a huge chart with dates and openings! 😀 Since I am OOS, Chicago is the best site for me to interview at, so my interview isn't until 02/08. Seems like forever from now!

Any advice for the Chicago interviews?

Thanks a lot, DocTraveler! After reading your post, I randomly decided to check the application status site and saw that same huge chart. I also see the earliest Chicago date is 02/08, but for some reason, there isn't any link or anything to click on .. I'm going to be a little depressed if I find out this was just some kind of internet glitch and I wasn't supposed to get an invite, though I do see an "Interview Letter Date: 11/24/2010" at the top. Weird.

How did you sign up for your interview? I'm wondering if maybe they froze interview sign-ups due to the holiday?

You call the office to request one of the available dates. Congrats on the invite btw!

Anyone else intending on going to Urbana for all four years?

Np! I figured this news might make some people check. And yes, as previously said, I called the office. :luck:

Ahh, I tried calling in today, but I guess they're closed for the holiday.

Couple questions for those of you who have already interviewed or know:

- Any recommendations for the AM vs. PM interview? I liked getting done earlier at another interview, but being OOS, I realized it was way early with the time difference.

- As with DocTraveler, I'm most likely going to try and schedule a Chicago interview, where the earliest date isn't until February .. is it likely that by that point the Chicago class will be full? Or is the placement system more random?

Thanks guys!

Hi All,
I received an interview invite, but after checking the website it says that OOS students are charged 70k for tuition a year. Is that true? That is double the cost of other medical schools.

I'm starting to consider whether I should just withdraw my application now, there is no way I can afford 300k for tuition.

Ditto. Got the invite yesterday. Unless they offer me some serious scholarship money, I can't imagine going here. I'll spend my entire career trying to pay off the debt! I'd have to go military. I think I'll take a pass on the interview - withdraw - give someone else a shot. Best of luck all!

Hey that's very generous 🙂 I'm in state/in city, and would love a chance at an interview. :xf:

I personally prefer morning interviews so that I can enjoy the lunch, tour, etc, without any worries.

In the past years, it seems that the Chicago campus fills up towards the end of December/early January. So, yes, it's very likely that by February that the Chicago class will be full. However, some people still manage to get into the Chicago campus later on in the season (possibly due to some people withdrawing, the UMED program, etc).

Ugh, are you serious?! Now I am seriously debating whether I should even interview here now...I don't want any campus but Chicago. My interview is in early/mid February 😱

Has there been instances in which someone originally chose Chicago but decided on one of the other locations? Can one choose who he swaps the location with... as opposed to the a random stranger next on the list?

Has anyone else interviewed September/early October and still have the decision pending status? What should I realistically expect at this point?

I think that in the spring/summer you have a chance to appeal your placement. You just need to express why a certain campus would be the "best fit" for you. I want to say I remember reading this on the 09-10 UIC thread, so maybe check there for specifics? Good luck. 👍

That's what it seems like based on previous years' threads. It's one reason why I'm being sorta neurotic about getting my campus placement soon! 🙂

Kaushik, any word on the campus placement? :xf::xf:

They received my placement card on the afternoon of the 23rd, bad time as it was the day before thanksgiving haha. Hope to get some good response from UIC soon.

Being my neurotic self (and really wanting the Chicago placement), I called again about an hour ago (~3:30pm CT) to ask when I can expect to receive the campus placement stuff. The admissions lady was really nice and looked up my application and told me that they mailed out my placement and all that jazz today.

They received my blue response envelope and updated my status last Tuesday and it looks like they've sent out my campus placement, etc, today. So the turnaround is approx. 1 week. Based on how quickly I received my acceptance packet after my status changed, I'm guessing that I should be receiving the campus placement stuff either tomorrow or the day after. Hope this eases others' anxiety as well! 🙂

Does anyone know when the admissions committee will meet in December?

Chicago placement! yaya. I hope I qualify for in-state tuition.

This is true...however, MANY people that are just dead-set on Chicago site will try this appeal. Lots of people from my application cycle (and possible currently in my class right now) had valid reasons for requesting Chicago and still weren't successful. Therefore, I wouldn't put a TON of hope into winning the appeal process. Chicago site does get pretty full by the end of February. However, as I said last year I do know multiple people that received Chicago site placement through late March. This is certainly more of the exception, but all hope is not lost if you're still waiting for an interview or have one scheduled next February. 🙂

finally got the "applicant in process" status, whatever that means. been complete since 7/30.

Ive been "applicant in process" for over a month....is it possible that they wont get back to us until the very end?

Its a fancy way of saying your app is now under review. At least that is what another poster on here told me when I asked what it meant. lol.

I've been in applicant in process for 7 weeks now. Wondering if that means I'll hear something one way or another soon.

ya, when i called to ask about it and they said that my file is now being reviewed by the screeners. she said there is no way to predict how long it will take from then on to hear from them, and to keep checking every thursday for updates (by calling). whatever, im going to pull my app anyways... i just got into my first choice this weekend!

I see. so out of curiousity where was choice number one?? just curious.

Was it UWisc since you mentioned acceptance there in your posts?? If so, looks like you'll be joining my cousin's school. He'll be a 3rd year by the time you join if that's where you are going. He loves it out there.

yep! UW was by far the most awesome school that ive seen, and i work at northwestern! GW was my first choice before i started applying, but after interviewing there, dealing with them post-interview and reading about all the sketchy stuff going on there, im not really interested in it anymore. funny how interviews can totally change your opinion of a school. a few of the residents and fellows that i work with here at NW went to UW and said it prepared them really well and they were able to get into whatever residency they wanted to. not much more you can ask for.

Hey guys,

This question is probably way premature since I won't even interview until February, but I was reading interview feedback, and I'm wondering how exactly placement works if you don't get into Chicago (which, based on responses, seems pretty likely). Their website says Chicago and Urbana have M1-M4 students, and Rockford and Peoria have M2-M4. Is there an option to stay at Urbana all four years if you're not MD/PhD? And how do students end up going to Rockford or Peoria?

My main interest is in the Chicago campus, but if UI ends up being the only school I get into, I'm sure I'd rather go to one of the other campuses than reapply or something

Thanks!

Ugh. So here is my status breakdown:

Application in Process--->Applicant in Process--->Application is in Process

Very slight wording changes.

Has anyone else ever gotten Application is IN proces??

I think I am en route to a rejection. 👎 Is there any hope left? This is my state school. Help?

I have "Application is in process." I don't know if it was ever different. For the longest time, I thought the secondary application website was where the status would be posted. Then a while after I submitted (I don't know how long it was), I realized from reading SDN that there is a separate website to check your status lol 😛. It's been the same status since I first checked it. But it's possible it may have been something different before I knew of the status website.

Who knows what these things mean. I did call the admissions office a few weeks ago and the woman told me my application was complete, but hasn't been forwarded to the screeners yet.

Edit: Oh wait, from reading one of my previous posts, I think I was "Application in process" a few weeks before (I've never seen it as "Applicant in process")... Is there really a difference between "Application IS in process" and "Application in process"? They like to keep us in the dark...

I'm not having much luck with my state school either (Interviewed but haven't heard a peep since) despite having grown up, schooled, and am currently working in the state... so I wonder if sometimes they think an applicant should spread their wings and branch out.

On the other hand, UIC accepted me within their first batch, 1 week after I interviewed. I guess sometimes diversity is a big factor?

In any case, keep your head up. Some place will be ecstatic to have you.

I know what you mean. Not only is this my state school, I have been working here for over 2 years!!! Part-time and full-time since last December! Diversity is a HUGE factor for UIC. I have been told that by an adcom member. I'm trying not to freak out, because browsing last year's thread showed me that a few people still got interviews after this series of statii.

There's still hope. Interview season doesn't end until early spring so there are still a few months left. Btw, i took a peek at ur MDApps and did a double take b/c i thought i had clicked on mine (based purely on the general stats). 24 is not old 😉

Hey,

Your post kind of jumped out to me because I thought this school was very cheap for med school ($15K tuition according to their website). Is there somethign I'm missing here?

UIC is $32,000 a year for in-state (plus an additional $10,000 year 2 and 3 -- for the summer)
If you are out of state applicant, it is $68,000 a year (plus $21,000 year 2 and 3 for the summer)

Fall/Spring (have to add together):
http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/tuition_prof/tuition_prof_fal10_spr11.html
Summer costs(as stated above -- only for year 2 and 3): http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/tuition_prof/tuition_prof_sum10.html

Costs will probably go up because Illinois is broke.
Also, if you are out of state when you apply, I don't think you will ever be considered in-state when you pay tuition.

Nevermind. it looks like the in staters do pay their fair share.
haha - yea, they try to trick you with their confusing webpage. When they interview/accept you, they give you a nice sheet with all the costs. My mom's eyes got really BIG when she saw it (especially the deal about more money for the summer tuition) -- as she thought this was the cheap school.

Does anyone have any statistics about the number of interview , acceptance and enrollments at UIC?

=) got the status change from 'application in procress' to 'applicant in process' today! i know many of you haven't heard anything even tho you've been 'applicant' for some time.. but those who have received invites.. approx how long after getting that status were u invited? just trying to get an avg time setting.. UIC is my first choice so i'm excitedd!

gluck everyone!

Congrats! I was on Application is in Process forever, but I think I got an invite about 2 weeks or so after changing to Applicant in Process, .. right before Thanksgiving actually. The weird thing is I never got an email from them or anything, so you should be sure to regularly check your status site. If you get an interview, there'll be this giant table with interview dates for the four campuses. Good luck 🙂

Does anyone have any statistics about the number of interview , acceptance and enrollments at UIC?

total: 6740 apps, 903 interviewed, 313 matriculated
in state: 1649 apps, 469 interviewed, 230 matriculated
out of state: 5004 apps, 434 interviewed, 83 matriculated

this is from last year. the MSAR doesnt report the # of acceptances given out, but I would expect it to be about 1.5x-2x the # of matriculants.

Looks like if you're in-state and you get an interview an acceptance is very likely. I really hope that's true!

I don't have an MSAR and gave my old one from 2 years ago to someone. Can you tell me if this is the stats of all UI campuses or just UI Chicago placement?? I'm asking because from this thread it seems that you get your placement to which campus after you get into University of Illinois.

Also, totally random and funny note. Its pretty sad that you know you are desperate to get into med school when the only reason you know a city's name is because of the fact that the city has a medical school.

Today's crossword puzzle's clue was name of an illinois city and it turned out to be Rockford, where one of the UI campuses for med school is. lol.

this is for all campuses put together.

Complete 7/18/10 OOS
Status still "application in process"

k cool. Thanks buddy. Congrats on UWisc again. And with regards to your sig about missing chicago, thank god for the small mercies, not like you are going cross country. City is just 2-3 hours away right? I forget the exact time distance just remember going from chicago to milwaukee twice and from milwaukee to madison once. And the former being more then an hour but at best 2 hours if I recall and half an hour between milwaukee and madison. lol.

thanks girl. ya, its about a 3 hour drive from chicago to madison. its going to be a huge adjustment, but I know its the right school for me. congrats to everyone who is staying in/moving to the chi... best city in the world.. just ask anyone from chicago lol

Sorry but I am new to this site. A friend recommended it to me and after reading all these supporting posts I just had to join.

I interviewed in Urbana on 11/19. Does anyone know when the adcom is meeting for December?
