I feel embarrassed asking this but how in the world do you schedule an interview once your status page shows that grid? I've been clicking all over the page but I can't seem to figure out how it works. Please help!

You call. Hope that helps.

Okay so I just realized that I'm suppose to call. Are the boxes in the grid with the number 8s the slots that are still available? I only have 0s and 8s on the grid. Oh and is the campus you interview in the one you get placed in eventually if you get accepted?

I don't remember 8's and 0's but most likely where they have 8's means they still have spots open. Just call though and they'll tell you what's available at what campus. Also, you can interview at any campus, it doesn't determine where you get placed. You rank them after you've been formally accepted and they notify you of the result. Hope that helps.

OK, so I just called the admissions office to inquire about the multiple ambiguous status wordings. As soon as I started saying "application/applicant" she was "oh, they are the exact same thing." She went on to explain that it was sort of an automatic update in the computer system. I gave her my AMCAS number and she told me that I was complete and sent to the screeners, but that they have no way in the office to check whether or not it has been screened or is awaiting a screen. Hmmm I feel a little bit better. Still waiting for that invite. :xf:

Hey, where do u guys see your status updates? I've been accessing the secondary link and I don't see any status updates there, just my secondary. Is there another link I need to follow? Thanks!

Thank you so much!

Just one more suggestion: call as soon as possible! I don't think the grid you see is very dynamic in that it updates as days fill up. My invite letter was dated 11/24, but I didn't end up checking until Thanksgiving, and then by the time I called them the next Monday, the earliest date for Chicago was already full, so I was scheduled for the next week. I'm guessing it doesn't make the most giant deal to interview a week later, but with rolling admissions, earlier is better. Congrats!

weird!!!!!!!!!!

I was complete 3 months after you and already am under review.

Yeah this whole process is very random...there is no truth to how things work. I was not complete here until 10/14/2010 and I got my invite about 2 weeks after I was "applicant in process" which was on 11/23/2010. So honestly, I think it depends on how interested in you they are. I didn't think the turnaround would be so fast for me but it was 🙂.

My advice: send update letters or just let them know you are still very interested. :luck:

that's awesome that u had such a quick turnaround. i'm praying to hear something soon.. i was complete here 9/23 and when i talked to the admissions counselor a week ago she told me i hadn't even been screened yet, but then my status changed to 'applicant' today.. so i'll take that as a good sign? aahhh this whole thing is too random.. like u were screened b4 I was when u were complete after.. so who knows how they screen and what not.. anyway gluck to u and everyone! :xf::luck:

Just got accepted to one of my top three so I will be freeing up my seat (that and I can't afford to send out two deposits at the same time, lol).

Best of luck to the rest of you. UIC was WAYYY too expensive for me whereas the tuition to this other school is only 14K a year. I'm sure someone out there can make it work.

Congrats!! 👍

Went to check my application status today (this is post-interview). Decision pending! Ahh! Was told decisions would come for us by the end of December. I'm so nervous. :xf::xf:

Nervous? You should be excited!!... as far as I know, there hasn't been any post-interview rejections yet. Checking my status online definitely took half the excitement away from receiving the letter in the mail... but it'll always be memorable as my very first acceptance, melting away a mountain of stress, fear, and uncertainty.

Does anyone know the process involve in withdrawing a deposit? Do I Call? Do I send a formal letter? (Ugh... extra work 🙁)

Hey AutumnChild - when did you interview? I interview 12/8 in Rockford, and today my status was changed to decision pending. For those who have been accepted, is that what happened in between your interview and final decision? I think acceptances will be offered next thurs/fri, and from prior posts, I take it a "final decision" at this point post interview means acceptance.

I interviewed on 11/30 at the Chicago campus. IwannabeDrP you had a quick turnaround! From what i read earlier in this thread we stay "decision pending" until a decision has been made.

You got to call, and they usually want it in writing (email/letter) too

Also, you won't get the deposit back until towards the end of the application season.

At least that's what the admissions person told me.

It's weird to see so many OOS acceptances on this thread. During my interview they said that the matriculant mix is 80% IS and 20% OOS. But good job on making it.

I just recieved an interview but I probably will not be attending do to the high cost for OOS. UIC is a great school but i've been accepted IS, so I don't think I could justify paying way more to attend this school. Best of luck to everyone else!

The matriculant mix is different than the accepted list. Even if UIC accepts more OOS than IS, the final mix of people who attend the school would involve the majority being IS. The OOS tuition is the gate-keeper in this process. Very few OOSers will be willing to pay that much.

Keep hanging on bud! I've got my fingers crossed for you! :xf::luck:

I don't think UIC would accept more OOS than IS. I would assume the proportions of acceptances they send out would be similar to the percentage they want to matriculate. i.e. ~80% of acceptances are IS and ~20% are OOS. SDN shouldn't be indicative of acceptance trends. Only a fraction of the ppl who interview actually post here.

I never said UIC accepts more OOS than IS. I said even if they did (indicating a hypothetical), the majority of the people who matriculate will be ISers. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Congratulations!!!!! So where are the top 3 out of curiousity? Or do you not wish to say. I am happy for you. You seem like a nice person.

I sent you a PM regarding my top 3.

And thanks for the kind comment.

Oh, sorry I must've missed that. Then I agree with you - the OOS tuition is a huge turn-off for many people.

haha - yea, they try to trick you with their confusing webpage. When they interview/accept you, they give you a nice sheet with all the costs. My mom's eyes got really BIG when she saw it (especially the deal about more money for the summer tuition) -- as she thought this was the cheap school.

LOL! That webpage is real sneaky.

I am awaiting the same news. When did you interview? How do you know that decisions would come for us by the end of December? Is that before or after Christmas?

About how long does UIC take to send out the decision once your status says decision pending? My status changed sometime between December 3rd and now, so I guess I'm just waiting on the mail.

Just called and told them I was withdrawing my deposit. The lady was like "You got accepted?!"... I'm guessing they haven't sent out that many offers yet and was surprised someone would withdraw this early? She then told me to send an e-mail so that they have a record of it, and then confirmed the address that they will be sending the check back to.

I'm getting a bit emotional right now because it was my very first offer, giving me that sense of joy and security... and now I'm turning them down 🙁. I hope this doesn't create bad karma and it comes back to bite me.

On the other hand, I'm freeing up a seat for someone else. Do I get good karma for that?

I interviewed on 11/30. The committee meets once a month on a Thursday at the end of the month. The woman I talked to on interview day said that they'll try to get decisions out by the end of Dec. Since the holidays are coming up though, I'm thinking they're meeting this Thursday so hopefully we may hear something next Monday.

When I asked how long it would take to get my deposit back... they said about a month. Not sure if the lady knew what she was talking about... sounded like she guessed.

Hello everyone! I received an interview invite a few days ago, and I scheduled the interview for Rockford because that was the earliest available option (beginning of February). I read through several pages of this thread, and someone mentioned that based on last year's thread, it looks like the Chicago campus is full by the beginning of February. BUT that there might be ways to appeal your campus assignment.

Does anyone (especially those of you who have interviewed already) have more information on how feasible it is to change your campus assignment?

Thanks!

I'm an M1 at UIC and interviewed in early March of this year. Several of my classmates who interviewed late (i.e. after January) got their top choice of Chicago right off the bat. However, I have no idea how the committee decides who gets their top choice b/c there are definitely people who interview late who aren't assigned Chicago. Hope this helps and good luck!

Autumn Child, I interviewed at Peoria on Dec 10th. They did tell us that they will be having a committee meeting this Thursday, 12/16! Good luck to both of us!

Can I ask you guys something??????

How long does it take to hear something good or bad otherwise since being put in applicant in process???

I've been under this status about 8 weeks now. so wondering if it is a good sign I've not heard anything yet or just that since its later in the year that my app has been delayed???

Any med students here know anything about this or anyone really???

THANK YOU in advance!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

I had about a two-week turnaround, but it was in the early fall (and, as always, n=1). I would guess that right now they are swamped with applications, but I'm sure other people can weigh in. 👍

+1, i had about a 2 week turnaround time from "applicant in process" to interview invite as well, but that was in mid-fall. I'm also in-state, if you're OOS it may be longer? Don't really know

2 weeks for me as well as an OOS

Was complete around 10/14, got the invite by 11/23

Good Luck! :xf:

mine was about a week, but im in state if that means anything. Send them an update letter on recent activities and reiterate your interest in the school. I cant say itd help but telling someone you like them shouldn't hurt.

Big day! I imagine the admissions committee is meeting right now...... As I feverishly check my status every 15 minutes

Even though they meet today I don't think our status will change until at least tomorrow, but most likely Monday. I know this probably won't stop you from status checking though

Good to know! I looked at last years thread, and some people heard the on the 3rd Thursday in December... So we'll see! If anything changes for me, I'll be sure to post.

LOL. And I thought I was neurotic. Both of my acceptances so far have caught me by surprise because I just tell myself it won't come for a few months. It does great to keep off the anxiety.

JSYK...the November people (that is, the last round of acceptances) heard around 5pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month..not to make you panic more or anything

:luck: everyone!

When you say "heard" does that mean the status changed to decision made and that coveted additional correspondence tab showed up?
