it's not that bad! when i went to my interview in november, a lot of the first year students were stunned at how early we were interviewing and mentioned that most of the people in their class got in with february - march interviews!

Thanks for sharing that. Good to know 👍

Received an invitation to interview today. Must schedule for after March 12.

Complete 10/12 (though I submitted 9/24 [??])

Hey. I'm an MSI at Einstein. I didn't get an invite until December and interviewed March 4th and know plenty of people with similar stories. There is no such thing as an interview for a waiting list at Einstein. Good luck.

😀 😀 So I just got a congratulations and "Save the Date" e-mail for accepted applicants... Did anyone else get this?? Wasn't expecting any news until Jan 15th, so i'm a bit confused/super surprised

Yup!!!!! I had to read it twice to make sure I understood.

I got in too! My interview was literally amazing here but I just got into NYU. Ugh, I don't know what to do...I loved Einstein!

same here!!! got the email about 20mins ago. so incredibly happy!

Also accepted! Interviewed early October I believe. Very likely I'll be attending!

Congrats everyone!

I interviewed September 13th...and I didn't get the email. Does that mean I'm rejected?

Accepted today via email !

Congrats to everyone!

Interviewed 10/26/11

Accepted! Will post details after I get off work

+1 😀 I'm sooo excited!!!! Congrats to everyone else who also got accepted!

Accepted today by e-mail as well!
Interviewed - Oct 24

so who else is making the trip to NYC in Jan? 🙂

Congrats everyone!

I interviewed Sept 13th, and I didn't get any email. Does that mean I'm rejected?

Our tour guide told us that Einstein does not have a sim lab for medical students, but she wasn't sure. Can someone give a definitive answer?

No. Last years thread shows applicants in your situation getting waitlisted/accepted later.

Out of curiosity, did everyone get a save the date e-mail or an email that just said congrats you are accepted. Because I think they only e-mailed accepted students who live far from NYC.

I live in NYC and got the save the date / acceptance email.

Did anyone who interviewed on November 16th or later get the acceptance email?

can any current students (or anyone who knows) tell me what the typical schedule is like for first and second year? how long are the days?

they interviewed on the 14th actually.....mine was on the 16th, that's y I'm curious.. maybe there's a cutoff?

MSI here. Our schedule varies a lot throughout the week--I usually check it every night to see what's going on the next day. Some days are longer, others might be very short. I can say that, on average, we start around 9AM and are done around 2 or 3PM (with an hour or two off in the middle for lunch). Mondays and Wednesdays we have our clinically-oriented courses, so we end our academic classes earlier, then will either meet in small groups on campus or go to our clinical sites from 1:30 until 4, where we meet patients and practice interview/exam skills.

The "class" periods include 2-2.5 hours of lab most days, so you're not sitting in a lecture hall the whole time.

If you want something more specific or have other questions, let me know.

Congrats to all those who have received acceptances so far. Great job! Those of you who have interviewed and haven't heard back, don't give up hope. You're not rejected unless they tell you so. Good luck.

Does Einstein have a sim lab? I'm sure as an M1 you'd have no reason to access it, but I'm hoping you know.

I honestly don't know, sorry. Anything you'd do in a sim lab is beyond the scope of what you learn as a first-year, so I don't know much about this yet. Maybe Zebalong can chime in if she's lurking around here??

Congratulations to all those accepted! Current MS1 here, feel free to post/PM questions!

are students generally happy with the housing? i saw an apartment quickly on my tour but am having trouble remembering exactly what it looked like. is there space for a living area?

also, is the library closed on saturdays?

thanks for your help!

I think we're all very happy with the housing. The prices can't be beat, and we get a ton of space for the money. Common space is variable. Some of the apartments have had the common area merged with a bedroom, which leaves two regular-sized bedrooms, one MASSIVE bedroom, and a kitchen with an eating nook attached (basically enough room for a table and chairs, possibly a bit more). Other apartments still have all regular-sized bedrooms, and a normal living area in addition to the nook. This living area is decent sized, enough room for a couch or two, TV, coffee table, etc. I'm not really sure what percentage of the apartments still have the common space--due to some legal requirement, they're having to move the wall to get rid of the common space in all of the apartments, but this is a slow process--but just from visiting friends' apartments, it seems to me more still have it than don't. Here's the housing site that has apartment pictures if you want a general idea of layout: http://www.einstein.yu.edu/studentlife/page.aspx?id=4114.

The library is open on Saturdays for studying only. So open, but you can't check anything out. On a related note, if you want a reserve book for Saturday, I think you can just check it out less than two hours before closing on Friday and you get to keep it. Haven't tried this yet, though...

Thank you for all your responses NedLudd. I was accepted last week and will probably end up at Einstein, so I have lots of questions.

A couple more things:

how long is anatomy? entire first semester?

how much time are students given to study for boards?

how is ICM structured? when do you start working with patients?

Thank you so much!

Hey, congratulations! If you do decide to come, welcome to Einstein.

-Anatomy is four months. It basically starts November 1 and ends March 1, with winter break in the middle. This means that we take it during the last part of first semester and the early part of second semester, which is nice since it gives us a couple of months to adjust before starting.

-I should remember how much time we have off for boards, but I don't. Sorry. I seem to remember that it is a fairly "typical" amount of time relative to most other schools. Try PM'ing Zebalong, if she's around.

-We start ICM in early October, IIRC. You start off with a few sessions of discussions or working with practice patients (standardized and real), then they introduce the second part of ICM, where you'll be going to your clinical site. Here's a response to a question that I got in a PM. It's a bit long, but hopefully it helps...

In terms of what we've been doing our first semester, we meet twice per week (2.5 hours each time)--on Mondays, it's in the Clinical Skills Center in small groups, where we have MD preceptors, and we learn the basics, like how to interview patients, take a proper history, etc. This is the class where they bring in standardized patients (actors), and we take turns practicing our interviewing techniques (or just one-on-one if it's being recorded), then get feedback from each other and the preceptors. They've also brought in real patients for us to practice interviewing (and learn about their illness), and we take trips to the wards and practice with inpatients. Other sessions we spend discussing and learning about various aspects of clinical practice, patient-doctor relationship building, etc. This is also the course where we've been learning some of the basic physical exam skills--so far we have done the cardiac, pulmonary, and abdomen exams, as well as the basic BP, pulse, etc. They correlate these with the region we're learning about in anatomy at the time.

On Wednesdays (the second session of the week), we go to our clinical sites. You get to rank where you want to be and what you're most interested in, and they try to place you at that site. Here, you're teamed up with one or two MDs who work in that field, at that site. They teach you how to interview, present to the attending, and do parts of the physical exam. It's done entirely with the patients at your site, and provides a ton of hands-on experience and patient exposure. You really learn a lot and, despite how helpful the standardized patients may be, nothing beats talking to real patients with real problems in the hospital. I'm not sure what it's like for other people, but my preceptor also spends a lot of time with us explaining the pathologies that we come across and why they are presenting with the symptoms that they have, what to look out for, how we might treat it, etc. I can tell you that my preceptor is awesome, and I am learning a ton from her. Other people seem really happy with theirs, as well. Groups are four students or less (majority are less), and many are even one-on-one with their preceptor. A lot of great individualized attention and practice.

Congrats to the people who have heard. 😀

For everyone else waiting, :luck: and sit tight. It's early.

I'm just a bit nervous, because I interviewed really early (sept 13th) and still haven't heard anything. 🙁
Is this normal?

I was accepted last week and will likely attend in August. I'm married and have a dog that I would like to keep, so I need to look into off-campus housing. I'm willing to commute if necessary. Any current students or people familiar with the area have advice on where I should look? I'm a west-coaster and unfamiliar with NYC.

Thanks!

I have a few classmates who live 2 blocks away in the houses on some street. We had a house party at one, it was pretty roomy and he and his girlfriend split rent which made it totally affordable. There are definitely options nearby, and it's a safe neighborhood around the school. No need for Manhattan, though some people do it.

I haven't posted here yet but thought I'd join in. I got an interview invite on 12/27. Complete 11/10.

Can someone tell me if I'm supposed to include my preferred interview location in my email with available dates? I wasn't clear from the instructions they sent. I tried to find the answer from previous posts but didn't see it anywhere.

I forgot to include the site in my email, but I think they just assume the main site if you don't specify otherwise.
