Just received interview invite. Completed... very very late, think it was February... 😱 I don't quite understand how to schedule an interview, do I just send an email with what dates I'm available and what time? Canadian applicant here, so quite new. Anyone know?

In the email with the interview invite there should be a link to a webpage describing what to do...I don't know if its different bc its later in the whole process, but by me (back in end of august) I was instructed to email back with a few dates that worked for me.

Maybe just call the admissions office and ask directly to confirm?

congrats on the interview and good luck!

Yup! I got these exact instructions. I've emailed back and forth with Emilia (not sure if you did too) to schedule something. Thanks! It's just that Canadian schools give specific dates and time slots along with the interview invite, so this was a bit different, which was why I asked. Nonetheless, sorted out now. Thanks !

I don't get why they insist on continuing to call it "one bedroom" and "two bedroom" apartments. 1br=2br, 2br=3br; however many people it says fit in the apt is the number of actual rooms it has. The way they describe it makes it seem like people are sharing rooms or that they create some makeshift room with a fake wall or something. Not so. As Zebalong said, each person gets their own bedroom, and it's a real room with regular floor-to-ceiling walls, a door, etc. The only thing unusual is that the closets for the big bedroom are out in the hallway (but this also means that person gets tons of closet space). Just wanted to emphasize this, since I was a little unsure of what to expect when I was about to move in.

Re: Housing Change
In case you haven't visited Einstein, or you did and your tour guide didn't mention it, there are big changes to how the apartments work here. Because of new NYC fire codes and other reasons, they are converting all the 2 (really 3) bedroom apartments so that the living room becomes a part of the converted room. They are going to be expanding the kitchens a little bit "to make up for this", but not by much. They've already done it in some rooms and according to the housing manager, are hoping to be done by the end of the summer. What a lot of people try is set up some arrangement with the person in the big room and set up a divider to make a fake living room. The individual bedrooms are still bigger than any of the other NYC med schools and DEFINITELY cheaper, but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up because it kind of changes how furniture and living spaces work and you deserve to know before you show up and see a different looking room. Also the reason they're still called 1 and 2 bedroom apartments is because if you're married or have kids you can get these apartments without the converted room. That's why if you look on the housing site you see giant living rooms with spacious windows. Because you COULD get those, but just not as an unmarried student (annoying, I know). Anyway, I know it's confusing but if anyone has more questions about it just PM me because I just went through this. And this wasn't to scare you because Einstein is still awesome and we all love it here. Housing management can just be aggravating.

Thanks for the information! Does this change affect the 1(really 2) bedrooms too? Have you seen the expanded dining rooms? Is there room for a small couch or anything?

Also, to give an idea of size for the bedrooms (I saw them on the tour but it was right before my interview and was too nervous to remember much), could you tell me what you fits comfortably in terms of furniture?

Also - any info on the studio sizes? Are they a nice size/able to fit a dining room/living room/desk etc??

Any recent post-interview decisions lately? It's been 8 weeks for me and still nothing. Thanks!

I think well know something by Friday their meeting this week

I have a studio.. its the size of a mini one bedroom, i have a dining table, a sofa with a flat screen and in the corner i have a large desk with a chair and a queen size bed with two book shelves... and the place looks pretty empty still. In other words they are pretty large.

Awesome! Thanks! 🙂
I will be in a studio this coming year as an MS1 (as a married couple) and I was nervous that they'd be tiny! (didn't have a chance to see a studio on interview day)
Glad to hear they aren't as small as I feared!

PM me if you want to see pictures, i can email them or something.

Could any current students comment on the feasibility of having a car at Einstein? Is parking available? Do people feel that a car might be at all necessary/have advantages, or is it really just not needed.

Thanks!

my understanding is that there is parking available for a monthly fee (something like 80-90$ a month).. but maybe a current student could clarify..

Personally, I have family in Brooklyn, and taking the public transit all the way there and back each time i go would takes ages, so I plan to have a car.

Anyone completed around mid October who received rejection pre-interview ? Completed since 10/15 and not even a single update yet ?!

Absolutely not needed - all clinical sites off campus have either a shuttle or car service... you mind as well make use of car service since you are paying tuition 😉.

Cars are easy to have here. Lots of garage parking available right next to housing (actually, connected to it). I think it's $80-something/month.

I don't have a car, and I really don't miss it. It's completely unnecessary, and I've never wished I had one--plus I'd rather use the money for train/bus/cab fare. There are grocery stores in easy walking distance, and buses/trains are nearby and will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go around NYC. Only exceptions I can think of is getting around The Bronx, or if you want to visit family outside of the five boroughs, for example.

That said, my classmates who have cars seem to really like having them and appreciate the convenience. I think it's especially helpful for people who have family in the region (e.g., NJ, Westchester, Brooklyn) where a car will get them where they want to go more directly and quickly. Also helpful if you want to go to some of the nicer grocery stores out of walking distance, or don't want to carry stuff back by hand, etc.

TL;DR: Easy to have a car if you want one, but also very easy to not have one.

zebalong, you have a studio as a second year? is that common?

I don't think so. Studios tend to be reserved for first/second years who are MSTPs or with special circumstances (married, or have a child, etc.). The rest of us get on the waitlist and hope for one by third/fourth year.

I got mine as a married couple, but i do know some second years who just got off the waitlist - they have been borrowing my painting supplies 🙂.

Anyone know what interview dates are supposed to hear back in the next batch?

I know that people who interviewed on 1/9 heard, back so I'm hoping I hear back in this next batch, I interviewed 1/17.

I interviewed in December and still haven't heard back...

I would give them a call then. But you can check earlier in the thread, I think it's the page before this one, someone that was interviewed 1/9 got waitlisted. It's all possible that your interviewer slacked in submitting the comments, or more likely your app is somewhere in purgatory. I would just give them a call.

Hey guys I'm a current Einstein student who just happened to be lurking. I just saw Zebalong's post about "absolutely not needing a car." That is completely false. Though you do not need a car here, if you have one, you should absolutely bring it. It will help you so much. Parking is dirt cheap for NYC ($90 a month) and you will definitely get the hang of driving in the city over the next 4 years. If you have a car, bring it! Believe me. If you don't have a car, there will be plenty of people with cars to take you to Fairway, Trader Joes, etc.

No no, I believe you about the 1/9. I was complaining about my situation...they skipped over me. Ah well.

Oh okay got ya. Yeah just give them a call to remind them it's been over two months and you can see where you stand hopefully.

Has anyone gotten an acceptance since mid/late January?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've been noticing on this thread, it seems like they sent out one large batch of acceptances around late-December to mid-January, and I'm assuming they were for people who interviewed pretty early last year. From mid-January until now, I haven't come across anyone else who has been accepted, but I could be wrong as well. Perhaps Einstein sends out acceptances one batch at a time? Or they just take an insane amount of time getting back to people.. -__-

Complete in September, stil no love 🙁. I sent them an update a couple of weeks ago, and I received same-day confirmation of my update.... Anything else that I should do?

have pre-interview rejections gone out? I called and they said that my application was still under review...what does this mean??? lol

I interviewed 1/23...should I be looking forward to hearing back at the end of the week? Or after the next meeting in two weeks?

Einstein interviews through April...so your application has either not been fully looked at or put in a "maybe" pile for an interview...all you can do is send in an update and a letter of interest and hope it works

Either this week or another two suspect. They made decisions on people that interviewed on 1/9 at the last meeting, which was two weeks ago.

Called and was told I am still in post-interview review mode. Guess 2 months isn't enough to decide on me...

Hopefully some of us find out today! It's been around 2 weeks since the last release

Why is everybody under the impression that the committee met yesterday? Wouldn't they have sent out decisions by now if they had made any? It's almost close of business for the week.

what do you mean by a divider in the big room? thats not a floor to wall ceiling is it?
I am a little concerned about this because of privacy issues. Could you be more detailed about your explanation? thanks.

Each bedroom has full walls - what lincoln5 was referring to is that in some cases, people whose apartments have had the conversion (and don't have a living room anymore) have turned part of the gigantic bedroom (the converted living room) into a partial living room by setting up a divider within the wall-enclosed bedroom. however, this is just a choice people are making, and since it's someone's bedroom, they would have to agree with it.

in other words, you can still have a makeshift living room if you want, it will just be "in" someone's bedroom, and that person would have to agree to host a living room in their room.

Somebody Called the school and were told the committee was meeting this week. If you check post history on this thread, decisions are typically released on Thursdays, so those are the sources of our info. 🙂

i interviewed the first week of january. received waitlist notification first week of feb.
