survival guide foorrr? There is no official guide that i am aware for 1st year (theer is one for 3rd year), but you'll have a week of orientation that is very helpful. Youll be paired up with a 'big sib' who will just be starting his/her 2nd year. People will be selling their old first year books, people will be there to give advice about the classes that you will be taking, etc. There is a school website that students use to share and pass along study guides and information regarding professors, exams, lectures, etc. I heard its been down for a lot of this year but hopefully it will be up again soon? If you have any general questoins, feel free to PM me. Altho you may be better off finding one of the currrent MS1s because quite a bit has changed since I went through MS1 (i'm an MS3). But, ill answer whatever i can!

Anybody know the chances of getting pulled of the Interview Alternate List??

There is a survival guide for MS1s but its been electronic for years.

I think its available on pequalsmd.com if thats still up and new students are being added to it. But the webmaster probably wouldn't add new students to it until orientation in August or July or whenever you guys start now.

To anyone:

Could anyone be kind of enough to send me a pdf of the MSAR 2010-2011 page for UCI? I only have the 2009/2010 one and I'm currently out of the country. I have been accepted to UCI and I want to be able to compare stats to see if numbers have changed a lot from one year to the next in order to make my decision. I will appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance.

I wonder if the interview status decision process will really conclude by March 1... :scared:

Hey all intervieweess, do any of you recall what we are supposed to do regarding financial aid? i recall there being a deadline for tomorrow to submit certain figures but cannot find my financial aid sheet. thanks

FAFSA is due March 2nd!!! Include your parents' info if you want to be considered for scholarships/grants (they'll just look at your info for federal loans). Don't forget to add UCI to your list of schools so they'll get a copy.

IIRC, the rest of the financial aid forms is due sometime in May.

thank you so much, i wasn't sure if that was it 🙂

I called in today and was told that they were probably not giving out any more interviews 🙁 :'(
I AM SAD!

i'll just say i'm rejected on mdapps as of today.

I AM SAD!

Does "probably" mean that they may still give those out?! I hope so.

Also did anyone with the alternate list(pre-interview)/March 1st status get an updated status today?

I have had that pre interview alternate list status for a really long time. Mine did not change yesterday. I dont know if that is good and means maybe they are still considering me....or if that is bad because it means they have completely forgotten that i exist

I interviewed 2/7 and just got alternate listed. They said 6 weeks, but I guesss they are ahead of schedule. Anyone know anything about post-interview waitlist movement?

Just got the rejection email. I'm just glad I can finally stop checking that status page.

Interesting. My status went from "Under Review" to Interview Alternate List "Decision Pending."
I'm not exactly sure what to make of it at this point in the game. I'm going to assume the worst, just spare my mental well being. Went here for undergrad and loved it. It's a fantastic school.

I got the same thing! Well at least there is hope 😀
I really want to interview for their PRIME-LC program!

Seriously, I was "Under review" since October and they didn't even put me on the alternate list. Methinks they forgot my application and this is just a mass rejection email.

Rejected by email after being "under review" since October. Really thought I had a shot here. Ohh well. 🙄

I received an acceptance call this morning!! It made for an excellent Saturday. I'm so happy I don't have to leave California 🙂

I interviewed 2/7 by the way.

No status change for me
I guess it's a bad sign
🙁

I still have "Decision Pending" for an interview on the applicant status page. Anybody in the same boat?

When were you guys complete
Mine is still under review I was complete 12/7

Submitted secondary on 18 Jan.

Complete since 10/10 🙁. Interview Alternate status. So do we have to wait for people to cancel their interviews for us to get one? Anyone have any idea if interview slots are still available?

OK, to clarify. Had "Under Review" for the longest time, then "Decision Pending." Then all of the sudden today, "Decision Pending" with this on the bottom of the page: "Your application has been reviewed and is on the interview alternate list. All final interview decisions will be made by March 1st." Today is 5 March, no?

Same here! I was complete on 11/10

Has anyone heard back yet? I was complete 11/6 and it still says "Under Review"!

Hello!

On my interview day they didn't do a tour of anything other than the student lounge.
Why don't they tour the hospital facilities?

I was wondering if anyone can comment on the hospital and how integrated it is for the first two years, being a 15 min drive away?

If you're accepted, you'll get a tour of the hospital during second look. I think the logistics of taking busloads of students through the hospital is just too much to deal with for a regular interview day.

As far as the hospital being located off-campus - it hasn't been a big deal. You'll get some hospital time during your first 2 years, but not enough where the drive would be too cumbersome. So like during second year, I went once a month. For 3rd and 4th year rotations, students typically move closer to Orange or Long Beach where most of our rotations are done.

its not really integrated at all the first two years (unless thigns have drastically changed). There are few sessions (maybe 1 to 2) where you will go the med center, but other than that any time you spend at the hospital is going to be your free time that you spend their by choice (either shadowing or doing a procedure shift or soemthing). This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The focus of the first two years is on the book work and establishing a solid foundation of the basic sciences. There is a simulation center on the medical campus where you will get experience with simulated patients, interviewing and practicing physical exams. There is also a clinic there that you could do some sahdowing if you really wanted to. You really don't konw much the first two years so 'integrating' the hopsital into the curriculum really wouldn't be that helpful. As minimoo said, its about 15 minutes from teh main campus so its not too far if you want to go there every once in a while for shadowing and what not.

What does suck about the hopsital being disconnected from the medical campus is there is a large gap between the upperclassmen (3rd and 4th years) and the lower classmen (1st and 2nd). Its not too bad if you are one year apart (i know a lot of the 4th years and a lot of the 2nd years), but i know very few of the first years. The ones I do know I only know from random days that we happened to volunteer for the same event.

there's no more invites right? because I'm still decision pending....
