anyone know???

Hey anyone know how much extra time we get for the secondary because the website was down? I received a secondary 8/3 and didn't get to it because it's my last one and I HATE the prompt. I probably did 20+ drafts of my PS which I think was awesome, and I do not want to have to basically re-write it for this...

anyone know???

Dear applicants –

We have restored the access to the electronic payment option on the secondary application page, so we are fully functional again.

I’ve received a couple of questions asking about the deadline for submission of the secondary application. Our invitation states that the deadline for submitting is one month from the date of the invitation, but with this delay of approximately one week, we will extend everybody’s deadline by one week. For example, if you received the invitation on July 1, your deadline will not be August 1, but August 8.

Secondary Complete 7/13
Super excited about the (slim) possibility of an interview here. Only 2 hours from family and a GREAT school!

For those receiving interviews, anyone complete around the same time as me? I'm also living on the east coast but will GLADLY accept any interview date they assign me.

hmm, do they go through the secondary apps in order? I'm OOS, but turned in my secondary in mid-late July. Yet, i see people who submitted them in august getting interviews... I feel like this is a silent rejection too, or some sort of silent "interview hold" =/

has ucsd started interviews already? i didn't apply here, but i'm just curious because i saw a lot of people walking around the med campus today looking like they were on an interview tour. i feel bad for them because today is one of sd's colder days. 🙁

yes.

weather is still great!

seems like NY/Philly/SD have the same weathter currently

Has anyone heard about student hosting?

They sent me an email this morning about that, so exactly one week before my interview. Maybe give them a call if you don't get any info about student hosting by then?

Thank you, and good luck with your interview when the time comes! 🙂

Anyone else interviewing this Thursday? I'll be wearing a dark blue blouse under the standard black suit.

Why no secondary?!?!?
I am seriously not getting any CA love.
:scared:

AMCAS was verified early August but no secondary yet.
I'm instate and my numbers aren't too horrible...

Anyone recently receive a secondary?

"Access to myapplication.ucsd.edu has been closed for your application period. You should be using TritonLink at this time."

What does this mean? is anyone else getting this notification when trying to access their application page? I received the email for my secondary on Aug 31st so I should have a couple more days left before the month deadline is up!

I already completed my secondary, but I can still access it, although in a roundabout way (using Firefox, not Google Chrome). When I first logged in, it had some message about me applying in the Fall and checking back in January. It didn't seem applicable. Once I finally got to the normal status page, it still didn't indicate whether I've been rejected or offered an interview.

I submitted my UCSD secondary mid-July but still haven't heard back. Maybe it's something with me being OOS? Any ideas?

Received an Email today letting me know they received my primary application and an hour later I received the secondary invitation.
I was verified 8/19 if this helps!

II also! They're fast - I was complete 9/10.

I had the exact primary verified date and secondary received date with you. I was impressed with how fast they pre screen... i am a CA resident and went to UCLA for undergrad...

The interview at UCSD is great. It is hard to find parking, so get there early if possible. They have a quick session and then send you out to interview with two people for 45 minutes each. These interviews can be in the different affiliated hospitals, so you may have to take a shuttle bus there and back, and the schedule is tight, so make sure you don't miss your bus back, although the buses seemed to be running about 8 minutes late on the day I visited.

After the interviews, there is a lunch with whatever students happen to be around, and then a tour of the facilities, which are AWESOME. They have a brand new building for teaching, they have great new labs all around the campus, and are building a huge new hospital (although that will just be opening as we are graduating).

If you haven't looked into OESS there, it's very interesting and I don't know of any other school that has something like this. It's one of the reason the USMLE step 1's at UCSD are so high.

After the tour, there is another quick session with admissions.

The curriculum seems very well designed, and they have a cool system where you go work with a practicing physician in the community, so your not just seeing patients in the hospital setting, sort of like an apprenticeship.

A big part of the student activities are the free clinics run by Ellen Beck, so if you can arrange to come a day early or stay that night you can get a tour. They will tell you information about this after you get invited, so maybe wait a bit before buying your plane ticket, so you can visit this great part of the school.

Good luck to everyone!

Thank you for the details. Congrats with the interview and good luck to you!

praying for an interview here. First choice (other than Mayo). Submitted secondary 8/13, no word

For those of you who got recent interview invites, when are they scheduled for? I find it a bit odd that mine are scheduled so far out compared to other schools 😕. I wonder if most interview spots are filled already?

Scheduled early December. Who knows, maybe their schedule just has more interview dates in the spring than fall.

Seriously thanks for taking the time to write this up. We need more ppl to give feedback if they interviewed! You are all amazing

I just called admissions because I had to leave my interview day early and was wondering when we were supposed to be hearing about decisions. I was told the first committee meeting is today, and that we may even begin hearing back tomorrow (I interviewed in september). Huh, I thought the earliest schools replied was Oct. 15th! Anyway just thought I would share because I know everyone is going crazy waiting. Good luck!

Besides taking the cab, what's the fastest/cheapest way to get from San Diego Itl Airport to the medical school? And when does the interview day end?

just take a cab... SD pubic transportation is not worth the time and hassle

sd public transportation is a nightmare, even for people who live here, haha.

i didn't have a car throughout undergrad, so i took the supershuttle from the airport to wherever i needed to get to (ucsd, apartment, hotel, whatever). you basically rent a van with a "group" of people, and it's a lot cheaper than a taxi (~$50 to get from airport to ucsd on taxi vs. ~$28 for the super shuttle). you can book one here: http://www.cloud9shuttle.com/ but if i remember correctly, to get from airport to school, you can really just go to the shuttle part of the airport and tell the person that you want a cloud 9 shuttle.

it's pretty fast too. it depends on how many people the shuttle is dropping off. i've never been in a van with more than 4, and usually the stops are pretty close by (like if they know you are trying to get to ucsd, they will pick a shuttle that is heading to that direction already so you'll probably be with other people trying to get to ucsd or the la jolla area). if you're really pressed for time, you can tell the driver that you need to be there by whenever, and usually the driver's nice enough to shuffle it around so that whoever needs to get wherever will get there first.

Complete 7/15, still no word post-secondary....

Am I probably rejected? I wonder when I'll get an update

Thanks to all the posters for letting me creep around on here for so long.

Congrats on all the acceptances. I was working on my secondary and realized that I am out of the one month range from the email, is it even worth turning in now? I'd really like to go to this school. 🙁
