I completely agree, uclabruins2011 is definitely not someone I want as a classmate.

No actually it seems you would want me as a classmate. In fact, you have this very creepy obsession with my posts that causes you to respond to EVERY one of my posts in almost every thread.

Your trolling in the UCLA forum as well as this forum is at full blast, keep up the great work.

I think you're holding a bit of an elitist attitude here bud when you yourself are waiting on acceptances. We all need to stay humble in this profession because at the end of the day we are all colleagues. Not only does your attitude make people not want to have you as a classmate, the same problem will arise in employment. Antagonism isnt the best way to get ahead or to get things done.

Please have your disagreements in private and let this forum be used to vet out real questions for those serious about sharing information related to their applications.

well said emcda, well said 👍

I was complete 11/14 and got an interview invite on 1/18 for 3/14 without being on hold. I'm out of state and can tell you that my GPA and MCAT are well below UCSD's average. Just reading through this thread makes me :scared:

Is there any hope?

Yes! There is hope! Remember, there's a reason they decided to give you an interview. If you had no hope of being accepted, they wouldn't waste their time interviewing you.

Plenty of people with numbers ABOVE the averages get rejected pre-interview, so numbers are not everything.

I finally got my first acceptance and somehow it was here! Thank you UCSD. 😍
Best of luck to those who are still waiting!

Got my acceptance this morning!!!! Interviewed 2/16. Very grateful for the super quick response time.

So excited! I absolutely loved the campus, the staff, the students, my interviewers, and the surrounding area. Haven't heard back from UCLA yet but the more I think about it the more I don't think it would even change my decision... I'll probably be here in the fall 😍

I'm in the same boat. Haven't heard back from UCLA, but I'm pretty sure I'll be in SD regardless.

In state, but at my interview two weeks ago there were 2 out-of-staters.

Congrats on the acceptances!! I hope you like the ocean and 75 degree weather in January. You guys are in for the ride of your life.

post hold status, post interview rejection. Bit disappointed but good luck to you guys. Ive got options waiting at other dream schools.

Just got accepted into the UCSD PRIME Heq program.

So pumped!!

Also accepted into PRIME. Definitely going to be a wild ride.

I am OOS and was accepted this week (Tues 3/6). Interviewed last Thurs 3/1.

I also interviewed last Thurs 3/1 and was waitlisted as of Tues 3/6.

Does anyone know when the financial aid information will be available? I assume there is a supplemental form...

I emailed and asked, they just said later this month and that we'll get an email once it's up

hey all, i gave up my interview spot this past thursday because i have other acceptances and preferred to just relax in cali. hope this somehow helps anyone who interviewed on that day!

also, my student host didn't seem to be too nice or helpful by email and it kinda turned me off to spending the night at his place. really wasn't the best recruiter...

quick financial aid question:

do we still complete and mail all the forms even if we aren't 100% sure on matriculating yet? I'm hoping to compare financial aid packages at a handful of schools...The UCSD form seems so....definitive (ie "You are attending UCSD for sure next year")

I saw in an email that we can get an estimate by just sending an email. Do we only get this after our forms are in? I've already completed my fafsa..

Thanks for the help, and sorry if this seems so simple. all this stuff really confuses me.

No, it's not definite. The only may you can make UCSD "definite" before May 15th is drop your other acceptances. I'm pretty sure they would need your supplemental application in order to make a financial aid estimate, because the supp application has financial info about you and your parents. Good luck!

I filled out my FAFSA with parental info and they were able to give me an estimate of my expected financial aid based on that info. This was prior to sending in the supplemental application. I'd just email them and ask.

Interviewed 3/14, waitlisted today...

Anyone have any info about how big the waitlist was last year and how big it is this year?

I'm dying here. Most stressful past few months of my life. :scared:

I would love to know more information as well. It would be nice if they told you your number or rank on the waitlist. My guess is they don't do that because it changes as they continue to interview people.

I've never quite understood how it works if you get in to one school and are waitlisted for another. If I don't hear back from San Diego by mid-may, I suppose I will have to accept the other offer? Then what if I get accepted into UCSD in July? Is there a polite way to turn down the other school if UCSD is my first choice?

I am not sure which one is my first choice at this point. Just wondering.

I called Brian back in November and he told me that typically there are about 300 people on the waitlist and they accept a varying number each year. The past few years they've been getting better about predicting their class size so have only taken about 30 or so.

This is consistent with other admissions directors I've spoken too. Many schools seem to accept between 10-15% of their waitlist members at some stage in the process. Obviously this is not the case for the "one-out, one-in" schools.

Sounds like our chances from the waitlist are not too good.

Scary. Do you know how they go about choosing from the wait list? They keep saying it's unranked, but I'd like to better know how it works. Thanks!

No. It is ranked internally. They just don't tell you your rank.

Of course I know. Brian tells me all his secrets. In fact, I have a camera and microphone in the admissions committee underground headquarters! Bwa ha ha hahah!

Sadly, that's all I know. But, I don't think a 10-15% chance is a bad one or a long shot. Those seem like quite respectable odds. When you applied to SD and saw that they (like most medical schools) only accepted a few % of the total applicants, you didn't think it was a lost cause. Have confidence in yourselves folks.

What is the "Acceptable Pool"? / Where do I stand on the waiting list?
Following an interview at UCSD, applicants will receive one of two initial decisions from the Recruitment and Admissions Committee:
An offer of acceptance.
A notification that you've been placed in the "Acceptable Pool". The Acceptable Pool is an unranked waiting list. In a typical year, many additional students will be accepted from the "Acceptable Pool". Most of these additional acceptances will be sent after May 1.

So that's really just a cover? BAH!

You're right. I'm just so jaded from the process...

Declined my acceptance this morning. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist.

I am just curious if this just speculation or you know it for a fact? Their website says it is unranked. Why should they lie or mislead applicants about that?

I don't know why it says that on the website. However, I found out directly from the director of admissions during my interview day and he said it in front of everyone.

I believe you, but that is really strange. All the information I've been given suggests the contrary (a real, unranked list where applicants are drawn that fill up a certain demographic that chose to go elsewhere). Who knows I guess.

Thanks for the info. Where did you decide to go instead? Also curious. Why not UCSD?

I decided to stay in-state and attend the u of a phoenix. Staying close to my family played a large role in my decision. I was impressed by what I saw at both schools but in the end phoenix was the best choice for me.

Reminder that financial aid applications are due today! Also, if you want an estimate, you simply email the office and ask for one.
