does any one have any suggestions on making arrangements for traveling to chicago to interview?

You can use mass transit from either O'Hare or Midway to get to the campus, which will save you the money for the cab ride. O'Hare has a train station in the airport, so that's a lot easier. You'll still have to take buses, to ultimately get to the campus, but I enjoyed the train ride.

Again, I'd recommend staying with a student host if possible. If the interview invitation didn't contain information on student hosts, e-mail the office and see if/when that information will be available. It'd be cool to post the response you get if you decide to go that route.

Other than that, the Marriott seems to be the most recommended hotel if you want to stay in a hotel.

"Application Held for Later Review"

How promising is that?

I'd recommend checking out last year's thread and seeing what happened to people that were initially held. I'd say that your chances aren't awesome, but I do remember some people being invited to interview after they were initially held early on in the process.

A couple quick questions:

In y'alls' opinion does someone without research have a snowball's chance in hell of getting in here?

Can someone with a wife and kid feel safe living in the area around Pritzker?

1) Yes.

2) Definitely yes. It's not as scary (or really even scary at all) as the reputation seems to be. There are definitely sketchy areas around the campus, but there are also nicer areas. You can also choose not to live in Hyde Park; the South Loop is a MUCH nicer area.

Thanks, bro.

I was complete Thursday sometime. And from everything else I've heard, you can expect an answer within 2 days of being complete, possibly even 1.

Strange, as was I. Maybe I'll hear soon, for better or worse. (Hopefully better!)

Edit: Thanks for letting me know! Good luck on your interview!

This definitely won't be the case as the cycle picks up (for those of you that won't be complete until later on). Keep in mind that it's still extremely early and they probably aren't receiving too many applications.

I would expect the wait to pick up by the time August or September rolls around.

If it makes you feel any better, I was complete Wednesday and am still waiting to hear back.

Patience. Patience. Patience. Patience..... Bwaaaaaaa!!!!!!😱

I'm curious, does the adcomm work on weekends as well?

Depends. They might, but I'm not sure how exactly interview invites are decided on (i.e., if they're a decision by a single reviewer/small group of reviewers or are subject to committee approval).

Ah, the reason I asked is because it seems that some posters got IIs, Holds, or Rejections today. Maybe they make decisions during the weekdays, and update statuses. All speculation, I suppose.

An alternative to taking a taxi or using public transit to get to campus would be to take an airport shuttle. Check out airportexpress.com. They picked me up from the airport and dropped me off at a student's front door for $19. I recommend this option if you're worried about hauling luggage around on the L and on public buses. If you choose this option, put your drop off location as the U of C campus, then when you talk to the driver, give him an exact address, and more likely than not, they'll take you directly there. To get back to the airport, omegashuttle.com is the website you'll need to schedule a pick-up. Again, this is an option which is a bit pricier than the L, but still cheaper than the $50 you'd pay for a taxi.

From last year's thread...

Chicago is super fast. Be prepared for one of the following decisions:

(1) Interview Invitation- 600 students (by the end of the process)
(2) Pre-Interview Hold (re-evaluate in December)- 200-300 students, 10-15% get interviews
(3) Rejection- Everyone Else.

Just got an interview invite (via email)! I was complete on Wednesday. Pritzker is my top choice school right now!

I was also complete Wednesday and received an invitation to interview today around noon. I will be there 9/8 and am definitely looking forward to it!

Finally complete at Pritzker. Here is hoping to the continuation of the fast turn-around:xf:.

Yeah just completed as well. They just posted my fee wavier. This is a dream school of mine. Just seeing how they handle the application process lets me know they care about the students there. 👍 Pritzker is amazing. nuff' said.

Wait till you get further along in the process. They really do treat applicants well throughout the entire process. That was definitely a selling point for me. Even though it has no real impact on you as a student, it gives you an idea of what the culture is like at the institution.

I'm so stoked to be interviewing here at the end of August! Literally can't wait to visit UChicago. 😀 Anyone else going to be there August 29th?

how long does it take for chicago to enter in my committee letter? it's been a week

Things have slowed down for Pritzker. I wonder if rejections are waiting for us that just recently completed.

I was complete last Wednesday, I wonder how frequently the adcom meets. hmmmm. 🙂

Nevermind, just got rejected. 🙁

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the rest of your applications. They still haven't posted my letters, so hopefully once they do I get good news, but who knows.

Do they email you when you're complete, or do you just see all the fields on their website and then assume completion? Also how do they notify of interviews/holds/rejections? Email?

I know they email for interview invites and rejections. Not sure about holds... it might just be a status change in the secondary.

Hey rxn, I will be there that day as well. Look forward to seeing you there.

Read the thread from last year and I feel so antsy (and I'm not even done with the secondary yet). I really hope I end up at least getting an interview here.

so it seems Pritzker is really focused on the integration of clinical care and research--which I LOVE. can any students comment on this?

Any word on rejections or acceptances. The wait is killing me. After going through last years thread if you wait more than four days, it seems a rejection not an acceptance is waiting for you. 🙁

Today is day four for me.

Ah I was moved to MD screen 3 days ago (Monday) so I hope that's not the case!

I have a lot of love for this school. I saw the same pattern Techmed07 saw when concerning interview invites and rejections. 4 days. But, since its been so quite it probably due to something else. No news is good news and I am sticking to it. I have been completed since Monday as well.

This is the first secondary I'm planning to submit -- my primary won't get verified until tomorrow at the earliest. I finished the essays earlier in the week but I'm too timid to click the 'submit' button, haha!
