Application Screening Completed

Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience.

Ahhh. Woke up to this, this morning. Although not positive, it's good to hear something/anything from Michigan. Was getting a little restless. Good luck everyone.

+4. I have a feeling this means rejection? I've been complete since early early July

Would you mind sharing your stats? I like to think that they're just not sure about me, since I've been under review for sibling, but I'm sensing that's not the case.

Sure. OOS, 35R, 3.8 sGPA. Not stellar, by Michigan's out of state standards, but hell, I'm an intelligent, well rounded scholar/athlete with good EC's. If they're looking primarily for the research-focused type, I will gladly take my rejection and move on. Michigan is a great place, maybe residency right? Ha.

+5 Oh well, those Michigan people are overly competitive anyways.

I've heard quite the opposite actually. Every medical student I talked to stressed how cooperative their class is, and it showed. Unless you're talking about UM undergrad though...I've heard pre-med is cutthroat there.

My stats are much lower than yours (and Michigan's). I'm surprised they haven't kicked me to the curb already.

Well you're still in it! Keep those fingers crossed. And don't change that doogie howser pic. That's gotta be helping you in some subtle, perhaps subconscious way. Ha! Good luck!

EGADS! This is not Doogie! It's Dr. Horrible, from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. I can't stand Doogie Howser... though I love NPH. 🙂

Ah, finally a decision.

I was wondering when they would reject me.

Also got the Screened status, not too optimistic about it though. 33Q, 3.5, undergrad at UM. PreMed is SOOOO cutthroat it's absurd. Good luck everyone!!

I too got the "Application Screening Completed

I'm sure this has been answered already on this forum, but could somebody who is a current student, or anybody really, provide some insight on what this status update REALLY means? How likely/unlikely is it that I will end up with an II?

I am OOS, >3.7 cGPA, >3.9 sGPA, 35R, and I have a strong research background.

Not sure what weight this holds, but I had that same status for 5 weeks and then received an interview invite. So you can defintiely get an II from there, but I have friends who have had that status for months. It's not a death sentence though.😳

Thank you! That still gives me hope, however it's getting late in the season, especially for Michigan. So, we'll see. I have been completed there since August I believe. Well, I will still hope and pray for an II! My undergraduate institution is kind of a weak school relative to where everybody I've interviewed with on my interview days elsewhere has gone.

I think it's kind of pretentious that UM explicitly keeps saying they don't want letters of interest/intent. Basically they're saying, "We don't care if you have a strong interest in us and we don't care about making a good match, we just want people with crazy MCAT scores from Ivy League schools"...it'll catch up to them when 2/3 of their accepted applicants choose to stay at their Ivy League schools.

Do they accept update letters though? D:

Maybe they're saying, "we have no way of knowing if you sent the same letter to every other school, and thus can't in good conscience place any weight on it."

That said, I hope the Ivy Leaguers do stay at their schools so I can go from deferred to accepted. Wonder how many of the deferred people they're planning on accepting this month...

Amen--to the deferred portion of this!!

I remember a tweet from a while ago saying they don't want letters of interest because they know you're interested in the school, they don't need a letter telling them that.

I've been "under review" since 9/14. Do you think that's a good thing (as I haven't gotten on hold) or a bad thing (they've stuck my app in a dusty, dark, spider-ridden corner, not to look at it again.)?

Ive been under review since 26/7 ... getting a bit frustrated. When I call or e-mail they say it is what it is we'll let you know.

just rejected pre-interview.

OOS, 3.3, 38Q
complete 8/8

Any guesses as to when us deferred candidates will hear about our future?

I'm going to guess that we'll hear back on 12/19. Also, I'm going to guess that most of us will be deferred to February. These are just guesses but I really hope I'm wrong about that second guess.

What are some good apartments to look into for living in Ann Arbor? I will be visiting around Christmas time and want to look at some potential places to live.

I like the 12/19 guess... could handle a little less pessimism with regards to being deferred again! 😉

I'm pretty sure that Director Ruiz said something to the effect that not many people deferred to December are deferred again to February. But I could be wrong.

I just came across the University of Michigan Medical School twitter feed and admissions tracker--wow! I am not an applicant to UMMS, but the wealth of information is still very much appreciated and insightful. They make me wish that I had looked into UM more earlier. Thank you for your transparency about this process! It would be great if more schools followed suit.

You might want to look around Maiden Lane, "white coat area". There are a few apartment complexes to choose from. I really like the Nielsen Square condos. They're pretty nice and I have seen a few "For Rent" signs there.

I just had an interview at UMich and everyone was so nice 🙂 We will see what my destiny is!

Still waiting to hear about when the deferred should hear back...I wonder how many of us are on the deferred list? and is there a difference between highly desirable and just deferred?

Where you'll want to live depends on what you're looking for. Pretty much any which way, craigslist Ann Arbor isn't a bad place to start looking.

Twitter said December 23rd.

Defer decision candidates can expect a specific update on December 23. I hope to have a general update

I hope to have a general defer candidate update early next week. (ie. # residents/non-residents and #offers being made)

Thanks Mr. Ruiz for answering so fast!😀

Interview Day just confirmed how amazing this school and its people are.

Definitely have my fingers crossed for Friday!!

I know!! I was blown away by the people and the facilities!! Hopefully they take a chance on me!! Friday can't come soon enough!

Of course I just read the twitter:
Looks to be an interesting meeting- many talented applicants=many offers?

Even if I am not accepted, it seemed that every applicant I met at interview day deserves to be there. I'm so glad I'm not a committee member. I have no idea how I would sort through everone. Other than pick myself lol😀

They mention AEC meetings quite often on the twitter page (they just tweeted saying that they have one now). This may be a stupid question, but what does AEC stand for? I googled it and the most appropriate answer looks like "annual education committee," which doesn't make sense given the frequency of the meetings.

Also, I'm really glad that they take the time to tweet about their process and post the admissions trackers. Although it is nerve-wracking to see how few interview slots are left, it's nice to know that there ARE spots left and that they aren't just for a spot on the waitlist.

admissions executive committee

for people who interviewed on 12/2 and 12/9, did you guys receive an email from director ruiz today with a link to a youtube video? I can't watch the video because the education filter is enabled. Anyone else having the same problem?

I'm also wondering whether everyone who was deferred is "highly desirable"... does anybody know?

nvm video finally works! it's an acceptance video! ahhhh tough decisions...

I got the youtube video today as well!

I have never been so happy in my life 🙂

GO BLUE!!
