Did anyone else find that this was the only interview day that didn't include a talk from the dean?

Same here. From the several people I have talked to, all interviewed with two faculty. Seems strange that they would change that....

It isn't as strange as you might think. Students, as well as faculty (both clinical and otherwise) serve on the admissions committee. Different interviewers are available different days. Some days you'll get a student and some you won't. As I understand (slash remember?) it, they all vote the same. Never fear if you got a student, the school isn't taking your application any less seriously nor should you be at some disadvantage. It seems to just be a scheduling thing.

Complete Oct 12 here, and still haven't heard anything. Would love to go. In state, 30R (10PS, 11VR, 9BS) with 3.93 and very solid, well rounded ECs.

About the student interviews, are they open file or closed file?

Just keep waiting! It might be a bit longer. I was complete in late September, essentially same stats, in-state and I didn't hear back until early December (last year).

They are open file. My two interviews were one-hour each with a faculty member. They had looked over my file previously and just asked me questions regarding my file. I was asked to expand on volunteering, research, personal statement, etc and asked about normal personal stuff. Fairly casual. I would know my file well before interviewing at MU or at any place for that matter. Good luck and I hope you hear back soon!

Question - Does Mizzou have student interviewers?

Yeah, a couple 3rd and 4th year students serve as full members on the ADCOM. They review the files, conduct interviews, vote, etc. They are selected by the student body and approved by the Dean to serve and, in my experience, they do a fantastic job.

I was interviewed by a 4th year student and an orthopedic surgeon when I applied to Mizzou (all those years ago). It's not new. You are not disadvantaged by having a student interviewer. The student committee members can be very persuasive advocates.

Interview invite and first snow all in the same week!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Don't you love the snow!? I was just thinking that today would be a perfect day for an acceptance 😛 Congrats on your interview invite!

The committee sends out acceptances once a month, right? And since I got a "no change" update Nov. 18th, I can maybe expect another update around Dec.18th?

Buttermellow, seeing as the interviews are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and last time you heard was on the last business Friday in November (Thanksgiving holiday for the last Friday), I wouldn't be surprised if you hear word again the last business Friday in December; Would guess the committee meets and makes some decisions on that day (or the day before) and then they send word out. Not sure what day that would be with the December holiday breaks.

In others news I will be interviewing next week. Got the invite last week.

When were you all complete? I have gotten interviews and had interviews at all schools I applied to except this one and im in state!

I was complete on Sept. 1st or 2nd, and received an invite about a month later.

Interview Invite today!!!... So whats the best way to get there from OOS? fly to regional airport? fly to St. Louis n Drive?

If you can afford the regional airport I would say go for it! Flying directly in is awesome. It can sometimes be decently priced depending on where you fly in from...but keep in mind that it always goes to Memphis before coming into Columbia so it can be a very long day of traveling.

I usually go to Kansas City or St. Louis...there is a shuttle called the MO-X (http://moexpress.com/moxolrs/) that is around $45 each way and is probably cheaper than renting a car. There is also the Megabus which stops right in downtown Columbia, but the problem is getting to the station in Kansas City or St. Louis from either airport.

Got an interview invite here today for the 11th! In state

I submitted my secondary application 11/8. I'm very frustrated as I have not heard a word good or bad from them for this whole 2 month period. Many of the other schools already have replied to me or kept the status up to date. When should I expect a word, or is this a bad sign.

Never know. Remeber that period included three major holidays. Also they have alot of applicants to sort through.

Yes. I understand. I'm just very anxious as Mizzou was one of my favorites and I'm instate also. Hopefully a word will come soon good or bad.

Med school is competitive. Hopefully you first get into a school, as our goal is to be a doc. Second is our pick of school.

Ok, so yea, I'm trying to be positive for you, but I'm probably failing.

What I do know is that they had to open up interview slots when they usually don't interview (week before christmas) because of the spike in applicants. From what I do know they really make their final selections by mid march I believe, so worst case: a couple of months and you'll know.

Good luck in your pursuit.

Try not to get frustrated. One of my top choices didn't get back to me until 6 and 1/2 months later. It felt like my update letters had absolutely no bearing on the process either. The entire process can be a crapshoot sometimes.

Thanks for the moral support. It all worked out well today with an invite. 🙂

Had my interview here today and really liked the school.

I got my acceptance letter last night!!! I am so excited to be going here.

When was the letter dated/postmarked, if you don't mind my asking? Just trying to get a sense of when the committee convenes..

I thought they sent acceptances via e-mail. Did you get you get an e-mail as well or just the letter?

Congratulations! I think Missouri is a unique school. How they use PBL makes the first two years seem more enjoyable compared to most other schools.

I wonder if the person above either missed a phone call or email. Or maybe they meant this is their acceptance packet.

I got an email acceptance letter (paper letters coming later they said). It was marked 1/12/2011 at 8:30. Sorry I tend to view them as one and the same.

Good to know. At any rate, congratulations!!!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to cancel my other interviews. This is my top choice school so I figure there is no real point in going to the others.

I'm sure that's the easiest part yet!

E-mail them.

Cheers

Anyone know when we might receive another monthly update on our statuses?

I had a dream I was accepted today. I even thought it was real for the first 30 minutes of being awake. Realizing the truth hurt.

I had a dream I was rejected! I very much hope that does not become true. I would so love to go to Mizzou.

I have an interview on valentine's day... should I bring my interviewers flowers?

I interviewed recently and it was sort of anticlimactic ... The tour was lack luster and the day all too quick.to get a vibe about this school beyond internet research. What is it about this school i havent seen or heard that makes you guys excited to help me regenerate my enthusiasm.for this school?

Haha, no offense, but I wouldn't expect a bunch of people still waiting on decisions to be too keen on persuading you to attend. That said, it's clear you and I had vastly different interview experiences -- I concur that the tour was brief, but our student ambassadors were extremely insightful, and positively glowed about the program. Of specific appeal to me were the PBL/block curriculum, USMLE and match performance, and the AWESOME rec center. Geographic considerations and tuition rates are factors as well, and at this point Mizzou is competing for my top choice. If, however, you're strongly favoring other options, please feel free to pursue them 😛.

👍 I love the PBL, MO is my home state, and every med student I met was helpful and generally just awesome. I would be ecstatic to go here. Just waiting for that acceptance :scared::xf:

Well I was interested to see more of the facilities of the campus or the tour as I had with other schools or even tour the hospital. Everyone was very nice dont get me wrong, and I know about all youve stated, but for being out of state and visiting the first time it was a let down and a rushed day. Second looks were invented for this reason I guess 😉

I just got hired as an MCAT instructor for the princeton review. Is this worth an update letter and what is the best way to go about sending these? I have interviewed btw but havent heard back yet.

Congratulations, but unfortunately, I don't think Mizzou accepts post-interview updates. I tried sending an LOI a few weeks back and was told it could not be included in my file.

On my interview day, they said they do not accept post-interview updates.

Congratulations! That is really cool. Is it all subjects of the MCAT or are you teaching only one section (PS?)?

Does anyone know when we will receive out next status update?

I heard through the grape vine that the next round of updates may be released this Friday.
