I've really come to hate that rejection email...

Rejected. Now I've heard back from everyone. This cycle has ended for me with 5 acceptances, 3 waitlists, and 2 rejections (post-interview).

Well, I just got the email... I am bummed about the rejection but am glad to have a little closure. I was definitely hoping for the phone call but I guess this isn't where I'm supposed to go. Good luck to everyone else!

Alternate... I guess the waiting game continues!! Anyone know anything about what the chances of admission off the wait list are for UNC or how the process works in genereal? Is the waiting list ranked?

Got the axe

Good luck to everybody on the waitlist!

You know,

Since you're interested.

Rejected as well. Oh well, life goes on. It's either northwestern or Ohio state for me.

Hi Guys & Gals,

Congratulations to those of you who have been accepted this cycle. If any of you are looking for a place to live this Fall, I will be renting out my 2br/2ba condo in Finley Forest for the next couple of years as I matched in Boston. I'd be really happy to have a medical student living there, instead of having to advertise on Craigslist or similar sites. I would do my best to give you the benefit of the doubt when it come to a security deposit and rent, especially if you think you might stay more than one year.

If you don't know, Finley Forest is located of NC-54, just a few miles East of campus. It's served by multiple bus lines and is about a 5-10 minute drive to the hospital (with traffic). The residents are mostly young professionals and graduate students. The place is perfect for someone looking for more room (~1000sqft) or two students looking to share a place. I've done a ton of improvements in the six years I've lived there including new laminate floors, stainless steel appliances, counter tops, and heat pump. I can rent it unfurnished, partially furnished, or furnished depending on your needs. If you want more information or want to visit, please PM me.

Enjoy your summer!

Best,
RM

any tips on how to become more prepared for VR section. I got a 7 and aiming for a 10 this summer. I already used the prep books. I wish I could find the source of verbal reasoning passages.

When I first studied for the VR section, my score ranged from 7-8 mainly because I had difficult time answering all the questions. At the time, I found myself struggling with the time because I had to keep returning to the passages in hopes of finding answers there. So, I tried to read faster and answer the questions quicker. No, don't do that.

It was only when I took my TIME to read the passages the first time I scored 10 or above on VR section. That is, when I read the passages slowly and tried to understand the content the first time, I had easier time answering the questions and be able to finish the VR with couple minutes to spare.

What I thought of VR answers is that they are not straight from the passage but rather an extension of the content of the passage. That is, you need to think in terms of what the author was trying to convey in the passage, which you can only do when you take your time to understand the author's point of view. In my case, I began to choose answers that "felt" right rather than "sounded" right after reading the passages.

To be honest, I thought AMCAS practice tests were very good indication of what your actual VR section would be on the real MCAT but I also thought ExamKrackers 101 passages was a good practice as well.

Well, good luck!

Also, you may feel like you are running out of time because you are reading passages slower... but you shouldn't worry because once you start to understand the passages and feel like you know where the author is coming from, you will find yourself answering the questions faster and actually have more time at the end.

ill give that a shot. thanks.

Hey guys,
Now most of you are probably from the Chapel Hill area or from UNC. But for those who are not, or for those from UNC who are still looking for apartments.. A friend and I are looking to a rent a 4 br/ 4 ba apartment. The rent will be about $400-450 including utilities (depending on the deal we land on). This is a very good rate in Chapel hill since you have a private bath.

Please PM me, if you are interested.

Note: I'm planning at this place atleast for 2 years.

This thread has been so quiet lately...
Any updates from anyone? Anyone called the office about their ranking on the waitlist?

Just withdrew my acceptance today. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

For all of you wait-listers out there:

I just spoke with Ms. Reid in regards to the timline for notifications.
She informed me that at current they are still trying to get a count of the students who "bailed," and that she was meeting with the Dean this afternoon.

She did not tell me any numbers in regards to wait-list size, students who gave up their seats, or anything specific about when we should hear.

I know it is not much news, but I thought I would at least share.

Have any WLers received positive news, or does anyone know if/when waitlist movement will begin? Sweltering in my own stew of waitlist stress over here. Keep up the good fight everyone and I will be sure to post if that fateful phone call comes.

Did anybody get accepted off the waitlist yet?

I haven't heard anything myself and I don't personally know anyone else on the WL so your guess is as good as mine. I would care to bet that no one received an offer last week but that's just speculation. Hope we hear something more concrete soon.

Any other input or comments regarding the waitlist at this point? In perusing through previous years' application and WL threads, this seems to be the only year where no single waitlist acceptance has been posted...not to say that waitlist movement might not have already happened.

I was accepted off of the wait list on Tuesday May 22nd. I know of at least one other student who was also accepted on this date.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Thanks so much for the information. Glad to know that the waitlist has started moving in some capacity. Are you two IS or OOS if you don't mind my asking? I'm OOS personally.

Also accepted on 5/30 OOS Female by phone call in the early afternoon. Went through the craziest week in order to matriculate, and didn't want to post until I was one hundred percent positive I could attend. Can't wait to meet everyone in August!

Those who were accepted, are you fresh out of college or non traditional? How did you show your commitment to medicine? At the post rejection interview I was told that my commitment to medicine was not clear and that I needed to become an EMT or CNA for a year to show that I was. That is a problem because I do not want to gamble with my career, in other words I don't want to quit my day job. Is volunteering and shadowing not enough. Also, I was told I would definitely be capable of the academic/mental/emotional rigor. It was just my commitment to medicine that was not clear. what should I do?

Is any additional waitlist movement expected this late in the cycle?
