Has anyone who interviewed heard back (positive or negative)? I remember them stressing they'd have decisions back to us by two weeks.

BTW:
In-State
Secondary Submitted: 9/7
Interview: 10/4

Schools are contractually obligated to NOT send out decisions until 10/15. If you interviewed before that date, then your decision was mailed out to you on 10/15.

Im OOS and I got a secondary, do they send a secondary to everyone? I am wondering if I should fill it out?

Does anyone know approximately where they are in their review of secondary applications? I sent mine in in mid-September.

Nope. All applications are screened before interview offers are made. USF is interviewing until the end of April/beginining of May. So your best bet is to just give it time.

Thanks for the response. That was my suspicion, anyway. It's always nice to have it confirmed, though. 🙂

So grateful, first acceptance 😀. Here's my evaluation of the school and timeline of my application.

Stats
MCAT: 34, sGPA: 3.44, cGPA: 3.54

SR: 7/26/11
SR: 8/11/11
SC: 8/11/11
II: 10/6/11
IA: 10/18/11
Result: Accepted (10/28/11)

Set-up: The interview day starts at 9 AM. You are given a folder with the name of your interviewers and a short biography. The day begins with a presentation from the Associate Dean of Education, Frazier Stevenson, about the vision and direction of USF since Dean Klasko came on board seven years ago, and "Why USF?" This is followed by a visit with a standardized patient, interacting with Harvey (2 of these in total)/Stan (9 in total) (be prepared to answer questions about cardio-pulmonary problems), tour of the USF facilities (hospital tour only during second look), an information session with 3rd and 4th year medical students, a lunch, two interviews (anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the disposition of your interviewer), and closing remarks from the Office of Student Affairs and Financial Aid.

Food provided: Breakfast (orange juice, coffee, yogurt, muffins, granola bars, and fruits), and lunch (from Jason's Deli; includes sandwich, drink, cookie or fruit cup, and chips)

Questions you absolutely HAVE to know: Nothing in particular.
* Highlights of curriculum? An acting internship during fourth year similar to Miami Miller, intraprofessional learning (collaboration with the physical therapy and pharmacy students) similar to FIU, sheer volume of standardized patient encounters (36,000!), fully integrated curriculum (systems-based) with breaks in between each block (I think each break is a week and highly valued by all the students as time to re-charge), scholarly concentration (requires a capstone; not mandatory to enroll; 180 hours of commitment), testing (every two weeks; first you take the test individually, and then take the most-missed questions together as a group; the group portion constitutes 5% of your grade and can only increase your grade; the individual portion is 95%), and selective track during fourth year to gain experience in the specialty you are interested in

Questions of interest:
* Is the gathering at Jason's Deli the night before recommended? I would not recommend it if your sole purpose is to gain additional knowledge about the school since EVERYTHING you need to know will be discussed prior to your interview. However, if you want to calm your nerves down, then maybe the gathering is for you. I didn't find if particularly useful, but it was great to see the enthusiasm of the students and that they're willing to spend two hours with us, despite their busy schedule, talking about "Why USF?" because they love the school so much.
* Is attendance mandatory? No.
* Is the curriculum available online? Yes, all sessions are video archived, including the powerpoint presentation.
* Is research required? No.
* Is having a car required? Yes, you absolutely have to because TGH is 20 minutes away, and that's one of the primary teaching facilities.

I have to give a special shout-out to their anatomy lab which was recently renovated. It was simply amazing and I would definitely try to get a sneak peak for all the upcoming interviewees!

:luck:

This has to brighten your week after the UM thing. Congrats Shazam!!!!

I'm really hoping to get an interview here. Half of my family is from Tampa, and it's a wonderful school 🙂. Admissions office says my application is "in the review process". :xf::xf:

Edit: Thanks for the helpful info too!

Me too!

I sure hope so. I would be more at ease if I had a couple others, but I'm not complaining either!

I decided to stay on the accelerated path and will be starting next year at USF, as long as my GPA stays above a 3.7. Hope to see many of you there!

I was complete in Mid-September and haven't heard anything.

just got an interview invite, but no one is picking up 🙁

congrats on getting an interview!! usf is my top choice and everyday I wait for that interview invite is killing me! can I ask what kind of grades/mcat score you applied with?

Anyone interviewing for SELECT in Allentown tomorrow??

3.9 gpa overall probably 4.0 sgpa with a crap mcat score. (to be honest its embarrassing to say on sdn :/ )
anyhow the school still hasn't picked up so I guess I am trying to call again tomorrow

I've been wondering about my MCAT score as well.. Can we get some feedback on the lowest MCAT score that is likely acceptable here? I won't be shy to share my MCAT score either..

According to the MSAR using 2009 data, the 10th percentile MCAT for USF is 27. :luck:

Anyone had a SELECT interview as of yet? If you did, how was the experience?

Thanks Shazam! I was looking at the most recent MSAR online with AMCAS and it said 28... 😱 So hopefully they will digress! I'm right @ 27! Lol

Anyone interviewing for SELECT in Allentown tomorrow??

How did it go? If you don't mind me asking. Is it significantly different than the interview at USF Tampa, as described in previous posts?

OOS just got an interview invite today!!!

Thought this was never going to come!!!😀😀

Hmmmmmm...... Why does there seem to be little to no action from the USF thread😕
Only seems to be a couple II's and acceptances sporadically sent out. Is this the norm for USF? Attending USF for my undergrad and graduating from the honors college I would have thought This would have been the first school I heard back from😎 Lets get this thing going. are they backed up? Anyone who has interviewed recently, have they said anything about where they are or how full the class is?

Dunno about capacity, but the director anticipated a 2/3 week wait post-interview to hear your fate

I can assure you that the committee is meeting and voting on applicants who have interviewed in a timely manner.

Just because you don't see people posting here, doesn't mean people aren't being accepted.

And we haven't even interviewed enough people to fill a full class yet, let alone accepted that many.

First acceptance!

I still cannot believe this day has come.

Congratulations!!!!! My interview is coming up....any tips?

Thank you so much!!

I know this sounds cliche, but just be yourself. I had a really great time on my interview day and I was fortunate enough to have two interviewers that I could relate to. Nevertheless, they do match you with interviewers that share similarities with your background. Also, my interviewers seemed genuinely interested in who I was as a person, rather than what was written in my application. Out of the 60 minute interviews, I'd say about half of it was spent on questions each interviewer had and the other half was spent on questions or any concerns I wanted to talk about. Overall though it was conversational.

To be honest, I felt USF's interviews actually counted towards the admissions process, unlike some other schools I've been to where it seemed like I was just another number and they had already decided how they were going to rank students. Ultimately, I was impressed with USF as a program, and I feel like they do care about their students. If you can make it, I'd suggest going to Jason's Deli the night before. If you want to talk further about the interview, or about my overall experience at USF, I'd be more than happy to address any of your concerns. Just PM me.

Non-disclosure agreements were signed. Don't freak out, they give plenty of info and time on the interview day to be prepared.

Oops, I may have said too much..... 😉

Good luck to you!

Congrats! You should def check out second look whether you are still deciding or have made up your mind. I only went to SELECTs and it was more than worth the trip.

Thank you!

They mentioned it is in April, and this is tied for my #1 with another program, so I'll absolutely be going to Tampa. I hope to meet you!!

Does anyone know the details behind the Attendance Acknowledgement? Is this binding? The wording "we hope that your decision to accept the position represents a firm commitment to actually attend the College" is a bit confusing. Are they just asking that you don't accept if there is no chance of you attending, or are they only asking you to sign and return that form if you are definitely attending? There is a very real likelihood that I will be attending - I loved the school - but details like Financial Aid, etc. will weigh on my decision that I make by May 15. Thanks!

It's not binding. It reserves you a spot in the class. You have until May 15th to decide on which *one* acceptance you will hold, but you can change that as waitlists move.

Warding off gunners that collect acceptances like baseball cards.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted!!

For those who have been accepted, how long did it take for you to receive an acceptance packet in the mail from the day you were notified?

Interview soon!!! The School looks fantastic on paper!!!

OOS applicant first time to Tampa!!!!
