Haha so wonderfully vague... they like to keep us in a constant state of anxiety i guess

There are only two people who make those phone calls. And one is also a clinician. So give them a little slack - its a busy office 🙂

Got it. Do they call everyone with their status or only those who are accepted? If they only call accepted applicants, then will they just email the rest? Thanks!!

Everyone gets a letter to the mailing address listed in AMCAS. I believe it's only the accepted applicants who get calls, but I'm not 100% sure.

3.809 GPA (above 3.8 BCMP), 32O MCAT, in state, lots of extracurriculars, still no love from USF.

I think we could be hearing something within the next few weeks. When were you complete?

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations on the acceptances! I wanted to let everyone know that I have a room for rent for the fall of 2012. My roommate will be staying there and she is a first year medical student at USF. This is a great opportunity because she is very kind and can show you the area and give great tips for your first year since she has been through it already. It is a 2 bedroom two and a half bath condo in New Tampa. Gated community, patio, clubhouse, pool, hot tub, gym and it is right across the street from publix. It also has a lot of parking that is free which is a perk. It is a 8-10 minute drive to campus which is really good since it is in a great neighborhood and at a very good price. If you are interested e-mail me at [email protected].

Sort of. I am working with two current first years on a project and they encouraged me by telling me that they didn't hear from USF about an interview until late January or early February. So, going off of what they said we could be hearing back relatively soon... I REALLY HOPE SO!! I'm not giving up hope yet!

Do you have some inside information?

I think it really depends on when the next meeting is and/or how many people they've already accepted. A few of the contributing med students on here have said that there are definitely more interview dates in the near future, so that is encouraging for anyone still wanting an II.

November 14th. You really think so?

I received an interview invite yesterday for early March so they're definitely still sending out invites. Hope you hear something soon!

Congrats! When were you complete? If they are already sending invitations for March, that means it's pretty much getting down to the wire for me (I was complete September 27th).

Hi guys, I searched through the forum, but did not find any answers so here's my question:

What differentiates the SELECT program from the CORE program other than the fact the last 2 years are in Pennsylvania? Is the curriculum for the first two years the same? From what I've read on this thread, it just sounds like this is one way USF can accept more OOS students. Any information would be great, trying to make up my mind if I want to interview for SELECT...I was not invited to interview for CORE.

The SELECT program does everything the CORE program does the first two years minus the scholarly concentrations.

In addition, we have what is called Professional Development Cohorts (PDC for short), where we are mentored by two physicians, one in Tampa and one in PA. We use video conferencing for the majority of our communications with the Northern faculty. We have specific learning modules and presentations without each course. Our SELECT curriculum is broke up into blocks much like basic sciences, one block is finance, one block is health policy, patient centered care and safety, leadership, etc.

Our doctoring is slightly different in that we have an additional preceptor who videoconferences from PA.

Our clinical experience is overall the same but we have a research component and a community based emphasis.

Hope this helped, if you have any specific ?s feel free to PM me.

For anyone in the SELECT program who has started rotations in PA, what do you like or dislike about LVHN? What makes this hospital unique? I am really excited to interview and would love to learn more about the program before I visit.

No one in the SELECT program has started rotations at LVHN.. My class is the first class and we are first years 🙂 I love everything about LVHN (all our Family healthcare is through the network, my daughter was born there, etc), but if you want a students perspective you might try reaching out to Penn State, Drexel or PCOM threads, they all rotate at LVHN we are just the first class that will be "their students"!

Oh right I guess I wasn't thinking about that. Sweet thanks for the advice!

So I just got a call from USF SELECT saying they have been trying to send me a letter and it keeps getting sent back and that they want a different address. I gave them my home address and didn't ask what the letter said for some reason. I am guessing this is not a good thing since I didn't get an acceptance call. Has anyone gotten a letter from them yet? Do you guys think they put a lota people on the wait list or just mostly rejections?? Thanks!

when did you interview if i may ask?

CORE interview invite today! Complete on 1/4, but they've had my initial AMCAS application since the very first day that schools could upload them from AMCAS. I feel very lucky to get an interview after turning in my secondary so late!

Congrats. Phone call or email?

Email at about 11:30 this morning. Nice thing to wake up to! (it's really hard to get out of bed at a decent time when you're on your between-semester break haha)

Between semester break? What school do you go to?

Is it safe to assume that anyone complete before 1/4 has been passed over? I remember someone saying they review apps in the order that they are completed.....

I'm wondering this too. I want to call and find out what is going on but they make it sound like calling gets you a red card...

No.

And I said they were reviewed in order. I didn't say they made a decision in order.

Politely inquiring would not. Being rude or pushy would. But remember that if all 3,000 applicants called and you were the one to answer the phone, you might get a little annoyed. I'm not recommending calling or not calling, that is up to you, I'm just suggesting that you be extremely polite if you do.

That's very true. Thank you. And the complete email says normally through mid May or whenever they are finished so there is definitely still time. I also answer the phone at my job so I would definitely agree that being pushy doesn't do any good. I am more worried that some aspect of my application is lacking or something. This just happened to a friend and I didn't want something like that to happen. That would really stink at this point in the process.

Then a call verifying everything is complete is not unreasonable.

This may sound like a silly question but if you received an acceptance do you have to do something to hold your place?

Have you received the acceptance packet yet? In the packet there are two sheets of paper you have to sign and send back to USF. Admissions will send you an email once they receive the signed papers acknowledging that you have saved a spot in the 2012 incoming class.

I was just accepted to the USF SELECT program! Got the phone call this morning 😀

Just got acceptance call to USF SELECT as well 18 minutes ago!!! 😀 interviewed in Allentown, PA 12/7. Feel free to ask me questions or pm me for details if I can be of any help!!
