Rejected. 3.81 GPA (BCPM 3.8), 32O MCAT, in state, lots of extracurriculars.

i was accepted last week and had a question- is there anything we need to do in order to hold onto our spot/guarantee that our spot isn't given to someone else? i want to wait to give them my final decision until i find out more about financial aid prospects. according to MSAR students have 2 weeks to give their decision so i'm confused because Mr. Perez said we have until May...Anyone know???

You will get a packet in the mail. If you want to accept USF's offer, fill out the two sheets of paper and mail them back.

BTW, Congratulations!!! USF COM is awesome!

You have 2 weeks to accept your seat in the class. What he meant about May was that you can hold multiple spots at as many schools as you are accepted to until the AAMC deadline (last year was May 15).

Congrats 🙂

It means they will be sending interview invites any day now 😉

I am right there with ya :xf: I guess no news is better than a rejection at this point. But everyday that goes by looks like an acceptence is farther and farther away 😳.

You have 2 weeks to accept your seat in the class with a $30 ( i believe ) deposit. What he meant about May was that you can hold multiple spots at as many schools as you are accepted to until the AAMC deadline (last year was May 15). They provide two sheets in your acceptance packet, one is "Hold my spot, here's my deposit," the other is "Hold my spot, here's my deposit, I am 100% matriculating here". Save the latter until you've made your final decision.

Congrats 🙂

Is this referring to CORE or SELECT? I was accepted in Nov. to CORE. I had to fill out and return a form acknowledging acceptance and checking off that I "Intend" to attend. But there was nothing in my folder asking for a deposit...and now you guys have me a little scared that I missed something or didn't receive a form that I was supposed to. Anyone else in the same boat?

I was a little worried when I read that comment too. I contacted the admissions office a few days ago and they informed me that those forms were just to save a spot in the 2012 incoming class and were not legally binding. And there was no deposit required to do so as well.

However, maybe SELECT gets different paperwork and asks for a deposit with their acceptance acknowledgment? I was accepted in November as well for CORE so I'm not sure if SELECT does things differently.

Or maybe I totally confused the deposit with another school. You guys are right, SORRY!!!!

For those of you who seem to be worrying about a deposit...there is NO deposit required to hold your spot at USF COM. Relax 🙂

I have been complete since October, and haven't heard a thing yet. Does anyone know if USF welcomes update/interest letters?

Would be nice to get some feedback. Thanks

Unfortunately not. 🙁. If it makes you feel better, I was complete a month earlier and haven't heard either. Nor have a few of my friends with better stats than I.

Unless you are invited to an interview, do NOT send in anything. This is explicitly stated on their website.

I am assuming that USF is rolling admissions and with that being the case they are probably accepting less and less students as interviews progress. When you are accepted does the packet they send include possible scholarships?

Also if you are accepted and planning on attending USF. What other schools did you interview at and why did you chose USF?

Thank you

CORE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Here were my stats: In-State Re-applicant, BCPM: 3.51, Overall: 3.64, MCAT 30o (retake: 28m) Good ECs.

Accepted: 2/9

Everyone keep you heads up!!! They are still interviewing and accepting people!!!! PM me if you have any questions!!

1. USF does do rolling admissions

2. This is an incorrect assumption. You have an equal chance of being offered an acceptance on the first, last, and every interview day in between. We do not interview for wait list positions.

3. Because we are a state school, the amount of grant and scholarship money is very, VERY, limited. You are not offered a financial aid package until after you have been offered an acceptance.

For those of you holding multiple offers from different medical schools -- I strongly urge you to consider USF -- I expect this year's match list to be very impressive, if not the most impressive of any other state school.. Thus far, we have 4 (including myself) who have already matched into ophthalmology, and 1 in urology. This is a direct correlation to how strong of a curriculum usf is teaching. My 2 cents

When does USF send a financial aid package to those who have been accepted?

I am an OOS applicant and its pretty dang expensive when you cant get in-state tuition.

Hello! Just got interview invite. Date is March 6th.
Stats:
MCAT: 32R
GPA: 4.0
Good LORs
For those of you that are accepted, please give me advice! Also, anyone else going for CORE interview on March 6th?

Good luck 🙂 We will all be on spring break the 6th so it's going to be a bit quiet around campus but that just means you will get an uninterrupted tour.

Relax, be yourself, USF does not interview you unless they see something they like.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. Unless you want to know your chances because I have no clue.

I finished my app here in the first week of Oct, and have heard nothing! My stats are good, but have a poor MCAT, but excellent EC's. I hate to be waiting so long to get a rejection letter. Anybody have insight on wait times for USF?

Overall they have been longer than in previous years.

I'm waiting here too and with meh stats - guess we just have to hang in there and see what happens 🙂

What are you meh stats?
I read your MDapps profile. Now I am no authority but I thought your stats were good.
The GPA you have posted is it just undergrad or did you include your graduate grades

Thanks for the encouragement OldBat. The GPAs are undergraduate. How is the application process treating you?

Anybody have an idea on an approximate schedule for Second Look Weekend (i.e. start/finish times, etc)?

You will be getting an email soon.

Usually there is a reception the night before with current students. The day is 8 or 9 am until about 4pm.

Do you think if you get the interview invite later along the app cycle, you have a decreased chance of acceptance? I have done some research, but I have gotten only conflicting answers . . .

What are your stats, if may ask? I have a decent stats (4.0 GPA, 32R MCAT, excellent LORS, and good ECs), but I didn't get the invite until just recently. So, don't fret! 😉

Yes and no, because of the rolling admissions.

You are more likely to be on the waitlist until after May 15th, but you are equally as likely to get an admission in time for classes to start in August.

Did you attend USF and have you been accepted? I am still waiting for an interview. Not heard anything from them. I feel this is really bad news!!

I'm a 4th year medical student at USF so yes, I've been through the whole process, although under different admissions people. I currently work with the admissions office. It's not time to panic. They haven't scheduled all the interview slots yet.

Invited for interview finally!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy 🙂

At this point does the admissions committee know who they will interview and they just have not scheduled slots? Or are they still going through deciding each week who to flat out deny and invite?

Congrats to everyone with the interviews!! For some reason I still have not received a rejection...? Would you mind sharings stats? Or PMing me?

31M MCAT, 3.96 GPA, Honors Thesis project, many ECs and 5 LORs.

They are still going through the completed applications, of which there were upwards of 3,400. Everyone gets reviewed, which can be the rate limiting step. Interviews reviews run through the end of April, and they aren't all scheduled yet.

Ha! I love that! Rate limiting step! But of course there are those that have already received information about outright rejection/interview/acceptance, so any idea how many applications they have left to go through? I would think they have made a decision on a large amount of applicants by now. Although I am a little anxious to hear some news, I'm just asking these questions because I am more curious about their application review process. We hear and see things going on from our viewpoint, but they have their own process. Any feedback/answers to those questions would be appreciated. Thanks for the input of a 4th year medical student.
