Can any current students talk about where most students go to study? (their rooms, library, coffee shops, etc?)

Are there many coffee shops/bookstores/hospital cafeterias nearby that have ample space (And are open during the evening) at which you can study? (I'm one of those people who dislike studying in my own room because I like the white noise/activity of being in an open area...)

Does Einstein typically notify of acceptances on Fridays? I've gone through the thread and it seems that way, but can't detect a specific pattern yet. Any thoughts? Interviewed 6 weeks and change ago.

They seem to meet up every other thursday or so so it's possible

Would people mind describing their interview and their results?
Thanks!

There is the main library which has silent areas, minimal noise areas and study rooms, there is a study center which has a more casual laid back atmosphere , there are conference rooms all over the place that you can take for yourself in the belfer building, there are study rooms as well located throughout the campus... whatever sort of study area you are looking for you can find it.

Hey Doc Einstein, you seem to give incredibly useful information. Thanks a million!!!!

Here's another question for you: Regarding the housing application, is there a reason why you can't list your preference for room? Do they just automatically assume everybody wants a studio? Or do they go by what you checked off on the waitlist card and give you the next best available room type?

Thanks!

Doc Einstein actually works for admissions.... :ninja: jk 😛

So let me just clarify - Deadline for application to Research/Service Scholarship is May 1st. If you're on the waitlist/not admitted until after May 1st - you won't qualify?

Since the new topic seems to be Housing options, I wanted to share this link and begin a discussion about something unsettling I read within this document: http://www.einstein.yu.edu/uploadedFiles/administration/Auxiliary_Services/Housing_Policies.pdf

"If a student in a shared apartment is leaving, the remaining student is responsible for the apartment
rent. Students are sent a list of vacancies and they can either transfer to another available slot or
request a student from another apartment."

If I am reading this correctly, are we responsible for an ex-roommate's share of rent if we live in a two or three room apartment and they decide to leave? Isn't that literally doubling your rent if you live in a double and your roommate decides to move out?

Ditto, I interviewed mid-Feb and still haven't heard anything. Anyone from around that date heard anything yet?

Got word back today, Waitlisted. No high priority designation given. Am I correct in interpreting this as a rejection, pretty much? After looking at last year's thread, only high priority WLer's seem to have gotten acceptances.

There is no formal site to request it but you can do it by just writing it on the bottom of the housing form. The waitlist cards are really for a studio or for the penthouses.

There is always a lead time before the rent increases and no one is ever left high and dry. Over my 3 years i know a ton of people who have been in that situation and no one has had to pay double, there is always options for people to move around/get a new roommate.

+1... Still haven't gotten an answer on this.. been wondering for a while.

It'd be funny/ironic if that were true because they start off their email with "I am happy to inform you that..."
I guess only time will tell though. At least it's almost May?

Its too bad that the financial aid didn't work out. I will be withdrawing my acceptance soon. Hopefully it will go to one of you guys, good luck!

I'll answer my own question: Incorrect. They only state that offers will begin to roll out May 1st, not end. Source: website.

Thanks

Those of you that just received wait-list placement.. how long ago did you interview?

So its May 1st the day they officially said scholarship awards would be sent out has anyone received anything today? (besides for the early batch sent out 2 weeks ago) From last years threads I saw people got stuff on May 1st so I assume they were notified via email but perhaps this year they are only doing snail mail? Anyone knowledgeable in this field?

To expand on what zebalong said, plenty of people also just study in their apartment, and there's a Starbucks down the road where you'll find people studying (they're very welcoming of it too, with free wifi, a communal table, lots of seating, etc.). There are hospital cafeterias but I'm not sure how conducive those are to studying. But there is space all over, and you'll find people scattered depending on what they prefer--lots of groups, alone, in public...

Just got put on the alternate list for the scholarship did anyone else get this email?

Does anyone know what is on the affidavit for non-married couples applying for couples housing at Einstein? What are the requirements for eligibility? What documents and how far back do they need to date? Thanks!

Sorry for getting back so late guys. We just had our renal and pharm exam this past week! You gotta love that P = MD 😀

Received my financial aid package today.. $4200 einstein scholarship, $8500 einstein loan, and $42.7K direct unsubsidized. Preparing for a lifetime of debt.
Does anyone know the true cost of housing? The package indicates that room + board costs $9000 + $6000, which seems a bit high.

It depends on what type of room you want. I live with 2 other people and pay 412 a month. If you live with 1 other person, it is slightly higher (460?). Studios are like 600ish, 700, I believe. They over-estimate your cost of living in case students needed extra money. IF YOU DON'T NEED THE EXTRA MONEY, TRY NOT TO TAKE OUT EXTRA MONEY. INTEREST ADDS UP......A LOT! Just take out what you need!

There is a cafe run by Einstein that closes at 4:30pm, and then the student cafe opens from 4:30 to 10:30pm. There is starbucks as well as star deli close by for late night food. For people that don't study in their room, you can go to the library. There are quiet space, group study space, and the regular library space. Outside the library, there is a the Boren center, which is very cafe-like, so you can talk and study if people like. Additionally, there are rooms in Belfer throughout Belfer that you can study in. It fits up to 20-25 people, but it can be 1 person there, or a whole study group there!

Did you receive the packet that shows you the design of the rooms? If you did, I believe in there 2 page pamplet, it asked you to email someone about your room preferences.

HAH! I'm have read everyone's file and am in the midst of trying to figure out all of your identities! 😀

This is true. Let's say that if you are in a 3 bedroom apartment and one of your roommates moves out, you and your other roommate has to pay for that gap. I was worried about that last year as well. There are only a couple of students that were put into those scenarios this year, but I think they were all able to find someone to move in and didn't have to pay additional rent.

scholarships will still go out after the May 15th deadline because people will scholarships will chose other schools and their scholarships will open up. There is a descent amount of people who get accepted after May 15th so keep the faith.

Studying is mostly Belfer, where histology lab in 4th and 5th floor, and small group rooms from 6-8th floors are available. Library is the next study area, with quiet, and semi quiet rooms, and a side study room that is more casual. Lastly, people also study in their room. I've never heard of anyone studying at starbucks or the two hospitals adjacent to the school, but who knows.

If you have a 3 roommates the rent is nearly 1300 bucks, if one moves out, the remaining two WILL have to pay the rest so their rent increase to nearly 650 bucks. You can look to move out to someone else's free room, or try to get someone to come in your, but if not, then you pay more, and I know people in that situation.

Rejected today I thought my interview went well, looks like I'm reapplying :/

has anyone received a service and research scholarship since May 1st?

I'll be withdrawing my acceptance soon (in addition to the service & research schlarship). hope one of you get it!

Hey, did anyone else not receive a housing information packet in the mail yet?

Me neither.

Just a guess: maybe the housing packet has only gone out to those who have already confirmed their spots in the class and withdrawn from all other schools.

That makes perfect sense actually. I live in brooklyn and I have not received my housing info either.

I got my packet (from the west coast) and I'm still holding more than one acceptance.

someone else did call admissions and was told they ran out of packets to mail... lol.

received the housing packet yesterday. just a head's up to everybody, if you want a chance to get a studio by 2nd/3rd year, send the waitlist card in ASAP! (along with the regular housing application form) send it in the day you get it, I kid you not!

Odds of a single person getting a studio by 2nd year is veryyyy unlikely. Maybe more likely by 3rd year...

Question: M1 & M2 are 10 months long. M3 & M4 are 12 months long. Do we have to "move out" for two months following M1 & M2 and then move back in?

If not, why is it priced accordingly here: http://www.einstein.yu.edu/uploaded...ram/FinancialAid/MD 12-13 budget chart(1).pdf

I don't know what's up with that pricing or whatever.. But no, you don't move out and back in between 2nd and 3rd year lol

Oh and PS actual housing costs are def not 900. For a single person sharing an apartment with 1 or 2 other ppl, you'll pay between 400-500$.
For a studio, it's around 685$.

Once you start having your own 1 or 2 bedroom (which is only for married couples and couples with kids) will the rent be higher..

So just to add to that, it's around 413 if you're sharing an apt with 2 other people, and like 480 if you're sharing it with one other. In both instances everyone gets there own room, and the aforementioned prices include heat, water, electricity, Internet (internet for now, may change next year). Only thing it doesn't include is cable tv, but a lot of people just use the internet.

Does anyone happen to know if there has been any movement of the MSTP waitlist?

It seems this Wednesday is the magic day! Is it too late to send in LOI and more LOR? I'm on HPWL, but it seems not all HPWL got accepted last year. Einstein is really my top choice...

All set for Einstein! Just finished withdrawing from other schools and ready for August!

Has anyone on the HPWL heard anything since its past the 15th?
