That info is on their site. Last year they considered 6801 applications, interviewed 1042, accepted 309, and had a class of 167.

So by getting the interview you made it over the biggest statistical hurdle! 🙂 not that that makes anyone feel any better...

Where did you get this information? Looking at last year's thread multiple people got post-interview rejection letters.

Also, last year was an absolute catastrophe in terms of how people received their decisions... So maybe, hopefully, this year they will all be status updates/emails. Even if it would be nice to get a personal call, I would rather just know!

my bad - you're right, but it looks like the waitlist was ~600-800 people in recent years so still pretty big

It would kind of suck if admissions troll us by either postponing decision until March 15 or giving out decisions tomorrow.

And don't break the refresh button, obviouslyteal!

werd. Bracing myself for rejection impact. Seatbelt on.

LOL

I keep telling people about Friday and then mentally reprimanding myself for making it worse when everyone asks, "SOOOO????" on Friday.

trolololol Columbia! It would suck so much but would kind of be hilarious after all of this hubbub over March 1.

I would LOVE Columbia if they let us know tomorrow, holy crap. I just want out of this stupid anticipatory state. But March 15? I don't think I could handle it. I would be institutionalized.

I guess I'm comfortable, I wouldn't mind waiting for a positive result. But I don't know whether to file the financial aid stuff or not...most everywhere else set the deadline at 3/1...

I indicated Columbia on my FASFA and Columbia also uses need access (http://www.needaccess.org/home.aspx) according to their website so I checked them off on that application when I submitted it as well. I haven't sent in any of my tax forms though and I also have no idea what their deadline is...

Good luck!

EDIT: Need Access' website has Columbia as an option, so I picked it. I didn't see anything on Columbia's website, but I didn't look.

I called the financial aid office today, and they said that no tax returns or other forms are necessary until you are accepted.

Just logged into the application portal and they've added a new tab that says "View Decision"!!!!! Except then when you click on it it says decisions will be released the first week of April 🙁

just kidding!! 😆

Really.... you must be really proud of yourself...............................😡😛

I remember when this thread was so quiet. It's so different now.

Oh sweet Jesus it's that Friday song. NOOOO

*Goes to jukebox and puts on something better... like Accept Me Maybe*

Hahahah we'll see. I stopped sending update letters and just started sending love letters in January, so maybe those will fly with the admissions committee. An excerpt:

Dearest Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons,

From the moment I gazed into your beautiful lecture halls, I felt butterflies in my stomach. The surge of epinephrine and cortisol in my blood gave me...well...an indescribable feeling. It was love. I went the rest of my interview day thinking about you, Columbia. Dean Nicholas's boots were quite risque, and the 11th floor CUMC skywalk view of the city during the tour was oh so romantic. Columbia, you flirt. I knew we were always meant for each other.

And then it goes on to describe more aspects of my interest in the school.

Haha, in this vein - many of us have really impressive acceptance packages already (wangers perhaps the most public). So why Columbia?

Likely because we're LOOKIN FORWARD TO THE WEEKEND! I <3 P&S, hoping to hear good news from them Friday! Or any news. Any news would be lovely. Good news would be like 😍 New York would be so fun!!!

I can't believe the non-rolling schools are finally giving decisions. It's been nearly 9 months since we all applied. It's like being pregnant. Except you're giving birth to your future career in medicine.
Omg perfect analogy 😍 😍

Does anyone have confirmation from admissions that we hear on Friday? Every time I call them to ask they get more and more vague. On Monday I was "beginning of March," down from "first week of March" last week...

My interviewer contacted me and said that it's March 1. I hope so... I can't taakee ittt annyymooooooreeeee :boom:

Alright I'ma have to start handing out citations for every troll post from now on. My neuroticism has just reached a new level.

My best friend's cousin heard a rumor that Dr. Nicholas sends care packages out to accepted students this week... If you didn't get a hand written note and homemade cookies in your package I think it's a bad sign.

Sorry guys! Better luck next year.

Well, over the weekend when I was playing a round of golf with good ole Nicky, he said that they are doing something new this year. He said that they are sending singing telegrams to accepted students on Friday morning.:meanie:

I'm out of trolling ideas because I troll the hall of P&S everyday as I get my afternoon coffee. I'm all trolled out.

Well, hm.

Did they just call you out of the blue to say, "Hey, decisions will be out March 1?"

Is that really so unbelievable, since March 1 is when we have always expected decisions to come out?

whats the deal with FAFSA? I didn't fill one out yet.. am I out of the running to get any financial aid then from the school then?

I believe someone said that you don't need to fill out anything for Columbia yet until you get accepted. However, I have accepted schools that need the FAFSA by March 1 so might as well fill it out now.

For most schools financial aid is first come first serve and they start working on the in March, hence the March 1st deadline for many schools. Columbia doesn't have this apparently, but with any school that's already starting to work on other students' packages means that the longer you take to get your info in, the less money there will be to disburse to you. That's what I've been told at several fin aid sessions for schools who stress getting it done early.

No trolling. I just wanted to share that with you guys. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that I was specifically told that a few weeks ago - I'm not going to read into it. I'm just going to keep sitting here, totally panicked. 👍

i would say the call is a very good thing. it would be plain cruel to give a false alarm.

just so i don't panic all day on friday, is the decision email sent in the morning or afternoon?
